The vote was taken and counted twice. The Gore people are now going to sort

through the ballots until they find the vote they want. A Republican county

(Duvall) through out 22,000 votes. Why not hand count all of Florida?

Bush is simply trying to halt the LEGALLY JUSTIFIED full count of votes. Do you want a president that feels not everyone is entitled to a vote? The manual recount that Gore requested is spelled out as allowable under Florida law... I guess Bush only believes in the law when it benefits the GOP. Bush's team is the one that filed a lawsuit, not Gore's.

Re: GOSH for President!

lol gosh sounds good to me. i voted for gore but i think they should stop this recount after recount and just concede to bush.

i was just debating this with my parents and they said the same thing. it sure is getting kind of emotional. when i listen to tucker carlson i want to agree with him, because i really like him as person, shook his hand in nh, and i see him as a very fair person. i just said to my parents "the fact that jesse jackson and pat buchanan agree on this should tell you it's wrong". which i got right out of a chat room. that really upset them i think. my dad said "they are just people, it shouldn't tell you anything." it is very easy for me to get swayed by what other people say, and it was actually kind of scary for me realize how easily i jump on the bandwagon of screaming angry people. whew. i am better off now. in fact i will reserve having a clear opinion, and just say i don't know what should be done. that is the best i can contribute.

In my mind, both and Pat Buchanan are a few cards short of a deck, so I don't see any reason why I should agree with them just because they agree with each other. i think Hitler and Mussolini agreed with each other about some things. Its a good idea not to jump on a bandwagon of screaming angry people, because you could fall off the wagon, or something. But really, it is better to look at everything and form your own opinion instead of accepting someone else's as truth, even if you do like them a lot.

The LAW specifically and explicitely allows for a manual count, a process

which is described as the " most accurate " method of counting votes in a

Texas law signed by Bush. If GWB has himself said, in writing, that a

manual count is the best counting method, why object to it in Florida where

the law spells out it's allowance? Why does GWB not want to conduct this

election according to the law?- because, as usual, it's only a good law if

it favors the GOP. All this rhetoric, about a few days delay in vote

certification, is laughable when you look back at the turmoil the GOP put

this country through over oral sex. It's obvious that the loyalty of the GOP

is to the GOP rather than our country.

They filed those suits on their own to protect their right to vote. GWB said

he trusts the people in his campaign- when it comes to their right to run

their own elections, he sues them in federal court. Al Gore, in his

campaign, said he would fight for the rights of citizens and that is exactly

what he is doing. But he has sued NO ONE while GWB has after saying what a

terrible thing taking this to court is. He ran his campaign on character

and, when his character is put to this test, he runs to the courts asking

for the laws of Florida to be circumvented. Because FLORIDA'S LAW spells

out a manual count as proper. Who is this Texan to try to interfere with

Florida's laws?

This is why Gore is on the right side of this thing. The entire stae is balanced on 300- some odd votes and Gore is simply availing himself to every standard Florida election law- nothing extroardinary. If he goes to court, that does open up a different debate. But as of right now, the manual recount he has requested is simply a matter of regular Florida election law. Bush is the one going outside of that system and into federal court. Let's face it folks, if Bush was down by 300 votes and he had the option of a manual recount, he'd NEVER forgo that option. The hippocracy is even more outrageous seeing that Bush has allready conducted his own manual recount in another Florida county. Bush, campaigner on character, if full of it.

I don't know about you but if its this fucking close, I would do what I can to win this election by whatever means necessary, whether I was Gore or the good guy. I expect my president to kick ass and use whatever recourse available to finish whatever needs finished. These guys both have rolls of money and the PRESIDENCY riding on the closest presidential election in US history and I can not say bad things about either for bearing his claws at this point. Partisan politicos like you are using this as a great excuse to slam the other guy, but just remember, only 50 million people voted for your man out of the 270 million in this country. Your boy ain't exactly loved by everyone now is he? Your cries are falling on deaf ears.

> Just a love note to all the Bushees out there- the canvassing board

has just voted for a FULL MANUAL RECOUNT. This is as allowed under

Florida law.

So here's my understanding. The first recount was a result of

Florida state-level law: the percentage difference between winners

was too small and automatically triggered a machine recount of all

the votes in the state of Florida.

Further, 1% of the vote of Palm Beach County was hand recounted, which

was requested by Gore as a presidential candidate. Or did that come

out of Florida state law as well?

On the basis of the difference detected in this recount of 1% of the

vote of Palm Beach County, the canvassing board called a full hand

recount of all the votes in Palm Beach County, not all the votes in

the state of Florida.

In addition, the Florida vote will not be official until 10 days after

the election, which allows for overseas and absentee ballots to

arrive. I would assume that other states also have this delay in

declaring an official vote total, against the advent of a situation

such as this one.

Does that sound right to everyone?

" Nealz Nuze " for Friday discusses this very point. Each state knows how

many absentee ballots are out there. If the margins in all the elections

in that state are greater than the number of absentee ballots, counting

them can't change anything:

OK, everyone. In the interest of the good of the country, the election needs to end. Since neither candidate has won at this point, the only rational result is for BOTH candidates to step out of the race. Since Bill Clinton cannot serve another term, the only good and right course is to appoint his wife, Hillary, as President.

I don't know if this is what you were asking but the Electoral College doesn't "convene" until December 18, so I suppose the states have until then to count the votes - plenty of time for absentee ballots. In most elections there would be no dispute at this point even though the official count would not be complete, but this is a close one. if you look at the counts on cnn.com or elsewhere, you can see that most states have only 99% precincts reporting, that is because the count is not yet complete yet the outcome is easily predicatble.

Interestingly, according to CNN, NM and OR are not yet called, though they had been. I wonder how many more will states will go like this?

Bob,

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that this idea might not go over

Hi, you won't believe this one.

The Danish newspaper " Fyens Stiftstidende " reports that a family in Odense

has received two postal votes from the presidential election together with

some material they had ordered from Washington.

At first Kain and his wife thought it was some advertising material,

but when they opened one of the envelopes it was a vote for GWB.

The sender has been contacted but will take no action in the matter.

Hey, what's going on? I've have a job and family to take care of, stop this

travesty before I laugh myself to death.

Bjørn

BTW. Mugabe from Zimbabwe has offered to send some election observers to

help you out. He's a specialist in fraud, I should mention. (LOL)

Sorry friends, couldn't resist this one.

LOL! that'd get him out of Minnesota...

judith in Minnesota :)

(I didn't vote for but I'm comfortable with the job he's doing

as governor. ly I like it that he's a bit outrageous. Definitely

un-statesmanlike, but at least you don't get the sense that he's

presenting a totally sanitized, unrealistic facade, as every other

politician does.)

Yes, and Bush has the right to ask for recounts in any state that he

Do you absolutely need to swear? The fact is, Bush had no place going into federal court over a state issue. Don't base your campaign on knocking federalism then turn around and try to get the federal government to take over the state's election processes. That is simply two-faced and it is symptomatic of the GOP's tendency to say anything necessary to win votes, whether true or not. If Bush had gone to state court, fine. But going into federal court runs counter to everything he campaigned on and further points to the wisdom of not believing anything the drunk says. I never lied about my drinking and driving, Bush did. Bush cannot be trusted as much as I can and, considering he is running for president, that is sad.

To be fair, Bush should be given waiver on the deadlines for handcounts in

areas of equal population to Gore's recount area. Of course, Bush is opposed

to handcounts, so I guess he wouldn't want that, eh??!!
