OK, I'll buy into that one, drop the political agenda in order to strengthen

the numbers. Unfortunately, that's one of the strongest offerings EMSAT has,

representation in governement.

I really like the idea of squad membership as well.

I'll jump in down south, still have many personal issues going on, but I

believe I can work on it.

If my Latin comes back correctly, it says, " If this can be read (or if you

can read this), you have a lot of education (or excessive education)

Is that correct?

Of course I'd be willing to contact them. It sounds as if others have the

same idea. Might be a good idea to coordinate the effort so they don't get

a dozen calls requesting the information. Contacting the other associations

listed by Dr. Bledsoe might be fruitful as well.

I'll be willing to help in this area (N.E. Texas).

Thank you, Dr. B. We are trying and I think we all want it to work. But we

need LOTS of help, support, and fresh voices to make it happen. I am not a

bylaws person usually and I haven't looked at them before I say this, but I

wonder if our bylaws allow a non-voting member to serve on the Board?

Hmmmmmm....... May have to look that one up. LOL You area valuable

leader in Texas, and we could SURE use your help to pull our EMS voices

together.

BTW, hope to see you soon.

Ok,

So here's whats up about building EMSAT.

1. We have some people willing to tell others in

strategic areas.

Mike -- South Texas

Al -- South Texas

Tater -- Tyler

Tom -- Fort Worth

Jane -- Albany

Anybody in the Houston area? Or Out in far west texas

want to help?

,

Can we get membership stuff to these people if they

are serious? Can they contact you to get that stuff

so we can start a ball rolling? What about students

and the idea for them to be able to enroll free?

Okay, lets discuss that. EMSAT is supposed to be an organization

representing Texas certified EMS personnel, right? So the actions

EMSAT takes should be representative of the wishes of Texas EMS

personnel, correct? Exactly how can the decisions made by the board

of directors be representative of Texas EMS personnel when EMSAT has

no real membership? How do you KNOW the legislation you worked on or

helped block is legislation the EMT on the street wanted enacted or

blocked?

> And that had nothing to do with " power lust of a few "

The power lust quote was probably over the top, especially applied to

some of the board members today, so I'm sorry I said it that way. But

it would be an accurate statement of some of the founding board, some

of whom are still there. To those it was (is?) all about doing what

THEY think is best, not necessarialy what the EMT on the street

wants.

> So I think I do take a little offense at your comments

> because those types of issues had nothing to do with power

> lust and EVERYTHING to do with wanting to keep us from

Sorry I was so offensive, but I still maintain that without a

membership you and the rest of the board are merely doing what YOU AS

INDIVIDUALS think OUGHT to be done, which is not necessarialy what

SHOULD be done. Do you know for a fact that a majority of EMT's were

against the blood draw bill? Or was it just a majority of your 200 or

300 members (is it even that much still?) out of 47,000 certificants?

> If you are referring to the EMS Commission bill

I wasn't. I actually like that idea and hope it passes next session.

However, I am one, and you are 200 or 300; what do the rest of the

47,000 think?

> While I agree that membership is the first major goal and

> building the organization is a major goal, I am not so

> sure throwing the leglislative baby out with the bathwater

> is such a good idea either

And I wish it were not that way, but it appears EMSAT is so caught up

in the legislative agenda that membership has be thrown out with the

bathwater. The board members are so busy with your own personal lives

that you simply don't have time to split your attention between

politics and membership, so politics has taken the front burner and

membership has been ignored. It is for that reason EMSAT should table

all political activities in favor of simple membership building.

> So how do you build and balance is the question?

You hire some full time staff (volunteers or part-time staff will

NEVER get the job done), rent some office space (or get it donated

like the Wisconsin people did), get a dedicated telephone line and a

fax machine, get a functional, interactive web page and a better URL,

and go into the business of professionally representing Texas EMS

personnel. It's that simple.

Very good point. We need to reset up that committee for bylaws review and

revision - I believe we did that before but I don't even remember now who was

supposed to be on it. We also need an astute lawyer (Wes where are you) to help

make sure that any revisions done by that committee are legal prior to

presenting them to the membership for final approval and filing with the state.

So when we meet, folks who are willing to work on these types of issues be ready

because THESE are the types of things that we need too.
