One thing she may want to do is to see about trying to buy meat from a

local source, preferable someone who raises their stuff free range. One

way to get back into eating meat without supporting the big factory farms

and gigantic cattle feed lots.

hehehehehe, it is a bit difficult when the catch on isn't it. Hmmmm, let

me give some thought to beans and lentils. No beans at all, not even in

things like chili?

Parsnips are pretty strong, my dad uses them sometimes in pasties. I like

them that way, hubby isn't too sure.

Like the latest study of the week? Eating fried carbs such a potatos

causes cancer. The problem with a lot of the theories coming out is they

tend to not be as well researched as the authors of the books claim they

are. They are after all trying to make money.

The newest study hasn't even been peer reviewed, but the researchers

in Sweden decided that their early findings were so alarming they released

the info before anyone else could look at it. I forsee a quick jump by the

govrnment onto the bandwagon that fried potatos are evil, then a quick

jumping off when the data is actually looked at.

The thing to do is to do ones own research and experiement to see what

works for you.

Good idea. I forgot to mention that the meat should be " free range " . I

wonder how tough that's going to be? -no pun intended! We'll definitely

check into the locals!

I forgot to mention-Pam, you might try putting cooked, mashed lentils in

your meatloaf instead of cheese. He'll never even know they're there!

Pam - Isn't this the truth!

Yes, I'm concerned about the whole mercury contamination thing with fish,

too. And it's not like we know exactly where they're getting these fish

from, either! Plus the fact that you have to take so much of the fish oil to

be useful. Sigh. It's sometimes so hard to decipher all these conflicting

sources! Like what you were saying about coconut oil...I just picked up a

booklet yesterday from the doc that says to stay away from coconut and palm

oil because they are vegetable sources of saturated fat and will raise your

cholesterol! But I have heard the same nasty things about canola...I stay

away from that.

That's interesting about using the light olive oil for baking. I was

wondering if that could be done. About the only time I use Crisco is for

baking. I'd like to substitute olive oil instead. Does your grandmother use

the same amount of olive oil as you would Crisco (or similar type things) or

is there some magic conversion? I'd like to try that!

LOL - I know my hubby probably wouldn't notice the difference if I put flax

oil in his salad dressing! What a great idea!

I know what you mean about protein...it's so hard to focus on that. I'd like

to try the flax oil, but I was a little worried when I read that one article

that talked about the quality of it being important and that if it's poor

quality, then it actual can have some toxins that you wouldn't want in your

body. Did the people at Bastyr have any suggestions for how you tell a good

quality flax oil product from a poor one? There's limited places here that I

could get flax and I'm afraid it's likely to be mass-market mediocre

quality!

oh that's a good idea!

I tried making a chili the other day with lentils in it, and good spicy

cajun sausage, and he wouldn't even try it. I should have mashed them, then

he wouldn't have seen them!

things like chili?

Parsnips are pretty strong, my dad uses them sometimes in pasties. I like

them that way, hubby isn't too sure.

oh that's a good idea!

I tried making a chili the other day with lentils in it, and good spicy

cajun sausage, and he wouldn't even try it. I should have mashed them, then

he wouldn't have seen them!

hehehehehe, it is a bit difficult when the catch on isn't it. Hmmmm, let

it's from canola oil or not, huh.

I will look into all this but I tend to take things with a grain of

(non-iodized, of course) salt.

it's from canola oil or not, huh.

I will look into all this but I tend to take things with a grain of

another source of Omega 3 - yesterday I found some flax seed meal - ground

flax seeds - and I put some in my oatmeal this morning and it was great.

This is what I can add to my protein shakes, yogurt, etc.
