Guest guest Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 Hi , I am so sorry you have been feeling so beat. I wish you were not having trouble with your BP during dialysis. I am not there yet, so I can't speak from experience, but hopefully they will get your dialysis time and formula for fluid pulled off ironed out and then you will feel better during your dialysis. Try Pierre's suggestion about the fluids too. , you are so brave going through this with your son being so young. You can't just go lay down and sleep when you have a 5 year old who needs attention and care can you? I am praying for you and I hope you are feeling better today. Quote

Guest guest Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 One thing about hemodialysis is that it takes a few weeks to get everything sorted out. Much of the dialysis prescription the nephrologist writes for the dialysis nurses or techs to start out with is a best guess type of thing. This is especially true when it comes to the target dry weight. That can be adjusted many times, up and down, based on how the patient feels and the blood pressure. There are other variables that might have to be changed, like the bicarbonate, sodium and potassium concentrations they use for the dialysate, the flow rate they run the pump at, etc. That being said, I suspect some dialysis units are more responsive than others to specific patient needs. It's important to not get too discouraged if things are perfect at first. One thing that may not go away is the feeling of tiredness afterwards, and that " washed out " feeling. This is because your getting in 3-4 hours what your body would normally do continuously and gradually over two days. Most people who feel like that just eat and then sleep after they get home. Me, I tend to be the opposite. After my dialysis, I feel more " wired " than tired. I tend to be tired the next morning though.
