Hi ,

I am so sorry you have been feeling so beat. I wish you were not having

trouble with your BP during dialysis. I am not there yet, so I can't speak from

experience, but hopefully they will get your dialysis time and formula for

fluid pulled off ironed out and then you will feel better during your dialysis.

Try Pierre's suggestion about the fluids too.

, you are so brave going through this with your son being so young.

You can't just go lay down and sleep when you have a 5 year old who needs

attention and care can you?

I am praying for you and I hope you are feeling better today.

One thing about hemodialysis is that it takes a few weeks to get everything

sorted out. Much of the dialysis prescription the nephrologist writes for

the dialysis nurses or techs to start out with is a best guess type of

thing. This is especially true when it comes to the target dry weight. That

can be adjusted many times, up and down, based on how the patient feels and

the blood pressure. There are other variables that might have to be changed,

like the bicarbonate, sodium and potassium concentrations they use for the

dialysate, the flow rate they run the pump at, etc. That being said, I

suspect some dialysis units are more responsive than others to specific

patient needs.

It's important to not get too discouraged if things are perfect at first.

One thing that may not go away is the feeling of tiredness afterwards, and

that " washed out " feeling. This is because your getting in 3-4 hours what

your body would normally do continuously and gradually over two days. Most

people who feel like that just eat and then sleep after they get home. Me, I

tend to be the opposite. After my dialysis, I feel more " wired " than tired.

I tend to be tired the next morning though.

I just wanted to say you have been in my thoughts all week...yep even on

Things will get easier as time progresses and you become more used to dialysis

I'm really tired today and it still hurts to move my left arm, they

put the ash cath in the left side of my chest. I feel like I've been

beat with a bat and everytime my 5 yr old runs up to me I am scared

he will hit the cath, which makes all my muscles tighted up and then

I hurt even more then before. I have slept a bit today but not

enough, I feel like I could sleep for days again.

In dialysis I have a bit of a problem keeping my BP at a reasonable

level. Towards the end I tend to want to pass out. I get real hot

and sweaty and then they take my BP and the top # is bordering 100.

I can't function at a " normal " 120/80 so when it gets lower then that

I'm in trouble.

I want to thank my mom for being with me when I needed her. She was

there for my first 4 dialysis tx and I am so greatfull for that. It

was really hard to do and I'm glad I wasn't alone. I also want to

thank everyone who has prayed for me, I need all the help I can get.
