kelli,

you made me laugh as i was worried about the same things.. i was so out of

it the day of surgery and the next, that i actually thought ihad a tube down

my throat.. and kept bragging how much it didn't hurt or bother me..well..

thats because it was just the oxygen..lol

i too hate the iv's.. but you are so medicated that you don't even think

about it..

i took a fan with me to the hospital... my own slippers and chapstick...

that's it..

i could not wear a bra home, so you may think about wearing something that

won't need you to wear one...i also wore undies...guess some don't, but i

felt more comfortable..

also a possibility... alot of woman tend to have their monthly visit during

surgery..was told this by a friend, so as a precaution, i brought my own

supples and i did end up needing them..

i'm 3 weeks out and i can't believe how fast time goes by...

good luck.. where is surgery?

hi kiimm2,

thanks for your pearls of wisdom. if you only knew

how many other things i was stressing about, but won't

admit them out loud, you'd pop a staple!!

i'm having my surgery w/dr. valin at st. raphael's

hospital in new haven, ct. it's great cuz i live in

new haven so it's so convenient. it's funny, i work

at yale and figured yale of all places would have a

bariatric surgeon who does the gastric bypass, but

they don't. so i'm being shipped off to the other

hospital in town.

i'm very excited and impatient too!!

Welcome and good luck Kelli!

Just relax...it'll be over before you know it!

Dawn

The Countdown Begins...for me too!!

hi everyone...

i've been lurking on this list for the past few weeks

and this post really hit home. i too am having

surgery next week!! originially it was scheduled for

august 9, but they changed it to the 10th.

the process for me was relatively painless for the

surgeon's appointment, insurance approval,

psychological/dietician approval, etc. (about 5 weeks

from my first appointment to my surgery!!). i'm going

today for some pre-op testing (chest x-ray, cbc and

EKG), monday for the gall bladder ultrasound and the

endoscopy. the endoscopy scares me the most but i

understand i'll be sedated for this.

i've had some abdominal surgeries in the past, so i'm

not " afraid " of the pain of the surgery, but that's

not to say i don't have fears about other elements of

the surgery. mainly the original iv (had a REALLY bad

experience last time i had one!), and the recovery

room with things in/on my face, tubes in my nose, etc.

(claustrophobic i guess). other than that, i'm trying

not to get too anxious about it.

i guess that's enough of me. i will await your

answers to karen's request for pearls of wisdom for us

almost-post-ops. i've decided not to take too much to

the hospital with me...just some chapstick and

slippers.

i'd also like to say thank you to all those who share

on this list. you've really given me some insight

into this surgery and its aftermath. it's not always

easy to share these intimate thoughts.

thanks again!

kelli

Jane,

I am glad yesterday's endoscopy with Dr. Curtis went better than the

first

one. Getting the right combination of pre-test medication is the key. I am

so

off the wall that I have to have my annual endoscopy for Barrett's esophagus

in the OR with general anesthesia. There, I really get knocked out and do

not

feel a thing. Just a little sore throat some times afterwards. Good luck.

Sorry

you have to go through it a third time, but at least the second was much

better.
