Hi Annette,

I live in Magalia. It's near Chico if you know where that is. What

doctor do you go to. I've seen a couple in Sacramento but they didn't help me.

3 yrs ago when I has to see a psychiatrist for my SSDI, he asked

me who the president of the US was. I looked at him and said:

" I honestly can't remember his name, but I do remember I didn't

vote for him " . All he could do was laugh.

When my FOG is thick I don't leave the house. I don't want to

endanger anyone that might be in the path of my car. There was

one time that I couldn't remember how to turn the windshield

wipers on. That was very scary.

Ah...check with your local Y. Most of them have programs/funds for people

who cannot afford the regular membership. Explain your illness, the fact

the swimming greatly improves how you feel, and let them know your

financial problems. Jim and I were on such a program at our local Y. Now

we've moved to a senior community that has a pool, and the Y is way too far

away. However, it was a great plan for a while. It's worth checking out.

I got in the car one day, and couldn't remember something " simple " like

how to turn the car on or lock the doors, something like that. I almost

panicked, but told myself not to. So I sat there a minute and

remembered how to do whatever it was. Fortunately, aside from that

time, I've never felt unsafe driving.

Joan,

Thank you for your kind reply. My rheumy is a Nurse Practioner...this is

doctor number 2. The 1st one put me on the sleeping pills and told me to go

home and exercise...and that was litterally all he said. So I switched well

this Nurse Practioner now has me on 3 NSAIDS, and refuses to do anything for

my pain...They have two massage therapists in their office and that is what I

am suppose to do weekly for my pain. Granted it does help for about a day and

then I start all over again. They absolutely refuse to give me any kind of

break through pain medication. They are finally giving me the Toradol shots

now...which they just started..and that is for my bursitis I have in both of

my hips.

I am so frustrated right now. I wake up dreading the day ahead of me most of

the time. I go to a hot tub (family) almost nightly to help deaden some of

the pain. Plus I tan at night...heat seems to help get rid of some of the

pain. I just wished that there was a doctor in the state of Indiana that is

willing to listen to all of my problems and then take them into

considerationg.

The NP I am with now..hasn't even done any blood tests she doesn't have any

copies of the blood tests that the 1st rheumy done....I would think that if a

new patient came in and I didn't have any copies of old blood test and

couldn't get any copies that I would be performing new blood tests. I thought

that was just what doctors done in normal practicing offices.

If there is anyone in the state of Indiana that knows of a good

Rheumatologist that listens please. let me know who they are...I will drive 4

hours if I have to...

No, Annette, you are not alone. However, I would not skip the meds.

Several years ago, when I was pregnant with our youngest son, I had to take

meds around the clock, which meant that my sleep patterns were all screwed

up, to say the least. I got a melamine board, and would write down what I

took, and when I took it. It really helps, and you know you are not over

medicating, because it's right there for you. I would take the prescription

bottle in my hand, go to the board, and write it down, then take the

medication.

As for being forgetful, I can be in the middle of a conversation, and forget

what we are talking about. Hubby is very patient. I've explained it all to

him, and he understands when I have to just be honest and ask, " What were we

talking about? I'm sure I was going to say something earthshaking here, but

I can't remember what it was! " We just get a good laugh about it. I also

tell people close to me, so they don't think I'm a complete idiot!

On another note, my Rheumy wanted me to start some type of exercise program.

I have been doing pool therapy, and it helps a lot, but it takes nearly an

hour to get there, then another hour home, and they have a new location, and

for some stupid reason, built a smaller pool. Now it's too small and

crowded, and they fill it so high that I don't get much benefit from the

exercises, because if I, for example, do the knee bends any deeper than

about a 1/4 of an inch, I'm underwater! I've teased that I'm going to get

me a snorkel! Anyway, I've decided to try to go for a 15 minute walk (very

slowly, I might add) with our youngest son in the afternoon after school.

He's kind of jazzed about it, because he feels like it's " our " time, and

it's also something he can do to help me. We just started yesterday. I

will admit, I was definitely sore later, but I really felt like I'd

accomplished something, and we had a good time together. We live on a dirt

road, and it was fun to stop and pet people's horses along the way, etc.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to ride my horse for a little while. I'll let everyone

know how I'm doing after that!

Carol

RE: New here.

And I thought it was only me. I do the same thing with my meds, I can never

remember when the last time I took them and I'm afraid of over medicating,

thus another reason to skip them. :)~ I forget words like *building*,

*sun* ... you know really easy words and things. I thought it was just my

own stupidity. I used to consider myself faily intelligent, now I'm

paralized with fear half the time, afraid I'm forgetting something very

important but can't quite put my finger on it. Am I the only one?

I'm confused. NP's are usually with OB/GYN's or family doctors, but I have

never heard one standing in for a rheumy. They don't have the training for

it. Specialists have to have several extra years of residency...NP's have

something similar but they don't seem to be qualified. I hope you can find

a good doctor soon.
