Thanks Kim,

It's always nice to hear that from folks who understand the worries

and difficulties.

There are definitely repo moms out there including Becky, who is a

moderator for the group. It can be effective, but isn't always. Also

it works best to start before age 6 mo since babies move on their own

too much after that. If you decide to repo take pictures every week or

two to see if it is working, and set a deadline so that you move to a

helmet while you still have time (if the repo fails).

There are way too many doctors who will tell you it will improve on

its own, and this isn't true in many cases. I would also say that if

the child's head is moderate-severe, I would go ahead and band rather

than trying to repo. If you're not sure you can get an evaluation at

cranial tech or another provider, and/or post pics to the group to get

some opinions here. We saw a cranio facial specialist when my daughter

was 4 mo old, and the measurements shocked me into realizing her head

was severe.

" Human Helmet " is just the term i've used when referring to my repo

job. Because my daughter's plagio was severe, and we didn't band I

decided that the only way to truly get results was if I became her

helmet in a way. so, i just made sure that she never laid on the

flat spot, and made a point to have " helmet like pressure " applied

whenever possible. i did this by using her own head weight while she

was sleeping. sorry, now i'm rambling on about it.

The peds do often say " don't worry " , and yet they don't offer much

advice of what you can do besides wait. I'm so grateful this group

exists, and so happy for all of the parents that are able to help

their children, be it banding, repo, or both.

I will be sure to post all results after May's re-evals. we are

having them all (chiro, PT, homeopath, and of course CT measurements.)

What contributed to your decision to only do repo? do you think that she has improved even more since her last measurements? I think it is great that you were able to do this and that it has been successful for you. I have had some success and will be remeasured tommorow before we make a final decision about banding or not. it is nice to hear that your experience with repo went well. we have also had success, thus making it a harder decision to make.

Re: Repositioning

Hi, I did not to the docband for my daughter, even though she had severe plagio. she was at 30mm. I took my chances, did serious aggressive repo, and did every sort of alternative therapy i could find, and she has done awesome! She was 4mo when I started all my treatments for her, and at her 8mo re-evaluations she measured at 15mm, and had caught up on all her motor skills, strengthened her neck for no more tort, etc. I am going back for a 12mo re-eval. I am very pleased with her results.Jen-- In Plagiocephaly, "jenniferrettew" <jenniferrettew@ ...> wrote:>> Has anyone not used the DOC band and just did the repositioning. If so, did this work? we decided to band and had our casting yesterday. he did great, not that we were surprised given his personality. I have seen so much improvement, but the numbers do not show it for some reason, so we decided to go ahead and just get it done. he will only need it for up to 8 weeks since he is low moderate plagio. I am sure he will do fine with the helmet and it will all be over before it gets too hot here in Charlotte. continued good luck to you and repo. I totally support you doing this and believe it will work. The casting is not that bad and rather quick.

Re: Repositioning

To be honest, I just couldn't put her through the casting procedure. I really wrestled with my decision, it was so hard! There were days when I was so tired from watching her head all night, that I wanted to just band her, but I knew that it would be traumatic for her. Just like you, I had her re-measured as we went along, because if it wasn't working and I had to band her, then I would have. I'm finally in a comfortable place, knowing that she is doing so well. I can barely notice her plagio now, I see a ton of improvement. I'm so excited for next month's re-measurement. Thanks so much for your kind words, and good luck with your appt. Please post and update us.Jen> >> > Has anyone not used the DOC band and just did the repositioning. > If so, did this work?
