Thanks for the advice. I totally agree about plagio risks being so

minor in comparison to SIDS. Just have to think big picture and not

focus so much on this. It's so new right now, it's hard to not think

about it. At least we are getting some good tummy time throughout

the day.

Hi. I know the temptation is great to let your child sleep on his

stomach. The problem is that back sleeping is the safest way to sleep

your child. How old is your son? When my oldest was a baby, his

pediatrician told us that he could sleep on his tummy only when he

could roll there and back by himself because then we couldn't really

control it anyway. Side sleeping had been an alternative.

Unfortunately, the AAP has released a statement saying that while they

used to say Back sleeping was safest, that side sleeping was better

than tummy sleeping, their opinion now is that side sleeping is bad

bad bad, and it is just to be back sleeping. We repositioned my dd to

get her head rounded out and some of the things you can do to keep him

sleeping on his back is to rotate his position in the bed so that his

head is at alternating ends of the crib. This way he has to look in

different directions each time to see the room. You can also hang

toys and baby mirrors on the side of the crib to which you want him to

look.

Definitely talk to your pediatrician, though. He/she may have some

other suggestions for keeping your son on his back but off his flat

which usually he tends to favor his right side (this is where he is

My 8 mo old son started his helmet today. I was wondering who tried

repositioning and had

little or no sucess? From 4 mos. we tried so hard to avoid this helmet by

repositioning, but

our baby had sleep issues to begin with, then when we forced him to sleep on his

side or

belly he just wouldnt have it. He is so strong he always wriggled out of his

positioner back on

to his favorite (right) side. I would wake up to move him again, and hed just

keep turning

back. LOL so stubborn!

Hi,

You're not alone there are a lot of us here who didn't do so well

w/repoing our babies. We do have success stories too. I don't think

it's b/c we didn't try hard enough. Repoing is really hard work and it

must be done 24 hours a day, everyday. Not all babies will cooperate.

Don't worry I'm sure you did the best you could. I ended up making my

baby's head worse, I made her good side, bad.

Hi,

You're not alone there are a lot of us here who didn't do so well

w/repoing our babies. We do have success stories too. I don't think

I just wanted to comment that we tried repo with my Daughter, ,

from about 2 mo until 6 mo and had very very little success. She had

tort, so keeping her off her right side was pretty much impossible.

She got her band shortly after she turned 7 mo and she had great

results from the band (she wore it for 11 weeks).

If your Son does have tort, that makes repo very very hard. I'm sure

you did the best you possibly could. REpositioning is a very hard

job and doesn't always work for everyone. You are a great Mom for

doing your best and getting him the help he needs!

I just wanted to comment that we tried repo with my Daughter, ,

Hi,

Is your son still in physical therapy? Or at least getting home

stretches? If not, he really should be. It's really important his tort

is being addressed. Tort can really hold a baby back, make them late

reaching milestones, make them favor the non tort side. There's other

things that it can cause too. It's a zoo here right now and I don't

have time to type them all out, sorry.

Hello, it has been a long time since I posted. My daughter is now 7

mos. She had Tort and right side plagio. We just graduated from PT.

We repositioned her from 2 mos. of age. I think we had tremendous

success. Not 100%, but we are very happy. I think early detection

was the key to our success. Don't beat yourself up over going with

the helmet. Repo is not applicable to every baby.

Hello, it has been a long time since I posted. My daughter is now 7

mos. She had Tort and right side plagio. We just graduated from PT.

We repositioned her from 2 mos. of age. I think we had tremendous

success. Not 100%, but we are very happy. I think early detection

was the key to our success. Don't beat yourself up over going with

Congratulations on your son getting his helmet today! How has he been

settling in with it since you posted? I hope everything is going well.

Repo just doesn't work for every baby, so please don't be disappointed

with your efforts. I know how hard repo is... we repo'd our daughter

Remy from 5 to about 12 months, and got great correction. On our side

was the fact that 1) she didn't have tort, and 2) that she voluntarily

started sleeping on her side at 5 month of age. I think somewhere in

the neighborhood of 75-80% of plagio babies have tort, and tort can

seriously undermine repo efforts. Many times, nighttime repo of a

baby with marked tort is just impossible, which sounds like the

situation with your son. I would say that many more parents try repo

but have to move on to a band than are able to get correction with

repo alone.

Please keep us posted on how your son is progressing in his helmet!

I'm very impressed that you did move on to a helmet in a timely enough

manner so that he is still young enough to get great correction from a

helmet. It can be difficult to call it quits on repo when you have

invested so much time and energy, but it's so important to stay

objective and know when repo just isn't working.

Hi,

I tried repositioning my daughter for about a month. She just would

not stay off the back of her held. We held her all day and at night

we would try to move her head, thinking she's in a deep sleep and

she'd move it back immmediately. Sydney is now in a DOC band. I

have to say I was relieved b/c repositioning was so tough and I

barely got any sleep. Sydney has only been in the band for a week

and we already see results!

I'm always jealous of the repo success stories We too attempted

repo with both our daughters. na was repo'ed from 2 - 4 months

with little effect. She wore 2 DOC bands. Kiersten was repo'd from

birth to 7 months. She was just banded 1/10 and we think maybe there
