Guest guest
, Maybe you are getting bulk on it for 3 months at a time. If I did that I would have to go through my insurance and they would charge me double what it costs me without putting my Armour or PTU through insurance. It really makes me so angry that insurance companies will tell pharmacy's what they are *allowed* to charge us when we have insurance and it is more than what it is without. I do recommend everyone on PTU or any hormone replacement to call another pharmacy, ask what your script costs and that you have no insurance, then compare it to what you are paying with insurance. You may be very surprised. I know I was, then I got angry ;-) Jody _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. Guest guest
Hi Pam, >>>after this last scare with the doc threatening me with switching to Tap >>>because of the pain,<<< When did the doctor do this with you? I must have missed a post somewhere because I didn't see this. Are you taking the cal/mg every day? This has made a huge improvement in my pain. I would hate getting out of bed in the morning because I KNEW it was going to hurt so much. Since I started with 600/1200 cal/mag plus 200 Vitamin D in December, my muscle pain has subsided so much it is unbelievable. It doesn't bring tears to my eyes anymore when I get out of bed in the morning. It has also helped with the muscles in my upper arms and shoulders. If your not doing this, I think you may want to give it a try. If you are doing it, and doing it daily, maybe increase the dose a little bit? Guest guest
Hi Kate, If your doctor is not ordering the Free T3 and Free T4, you should push for those tests to be run, especially while on ATD's. They will give a more accurate picture of what is going on in your body. The TSH will usually stay suppressed and will tell the doctor you are still hyper but the reality lies in the 2 free tests. This is what is going on in s case right now...I still find it so hard to believe that her doctor totally ignored the free tests! If you have been on ATD's for a while now, you are probably having some hypO symptoms, if your doctor is relying on the TSH he will not adjust your dosage down and your hypo symptoms will continue to get worse. As for the bungleweed, I can't answer that as I don't take it, but through trial and error I have found it is best to leave at least an hour before taking another medicine...giving some distance between the 2 interacting in the stomach and on from there. This has helped me so much. Guest guest
Hi Sonya, I remember those days! Maybe lowering your synthroid and adding T3 to your regimen will help you with this. I can't remember the last time I had the pain in my hands, but it was before switching to my Armour Thyroid which has all the T's in it. Also, try the calcium/magnesium with vitamind D. I don't know if it will help just for the hands but it has helped me tremendously with overall body pain since I have been on it. You may want to call your doctor and have him/her run the free T3 and free T4 tests on you and see what's happenng in your body. Guest guest
Thanks Jody, but the doctor is not ordering them because I think she is assuming that my low TSH will trigger the lab to run the FT4. I had confirmed this with the lab when I went to have blood sucked on Wednesday. If I see that it is not being run I will ask the doctor to explicitly ask for them and go to the lab again. I realize the importance of them, that is one thing I have seen emphasized again and again on this board. I have only been on ADT's for a couple of months now, with the dose lowered last docs appointment. Could I have already gone a little hypo ? That seems to be very quick. Take care, Katy. Guest guest
Hi Kate, I think it is really important for you to request your doctor to order those 2 tests on a regular basis Kate. They are the true indicators of what is going on in your body...what the TSH is doing or not doing is no way to have a FT4 run. Especially when on ATD's, the TSH seems to stay suppressed for much longer, showing your doctor that you are hyper when your FT3 and FT4 will probably show you are hypO. Getting her to run these tests regularly will save you so much aggravation in the long run...doing it this way, I am afraid you will be moving more deeper into hypO and feeling worse and worse. I know with my doctor, it took a long conversation to get her to use these 2 tests to judge my levels with (though she does still run a TSH - her security blanket I think). Now she is seeing how important these tests are and uses them on other patients now instead of depending on the TSH or Total 3 and 4. As for being hypo again, yes it is very possible that is what is going on. Your body may be reacting very well and very quickly to the ATDs so learning your bodies signals is very important. Do you have the symptoms list from the archives...it is an extended list put together on this board and sorted and set up by Terry. Has many more symptoms than many doctors recognize. Guest guest
I think its a shame that most docs only use TSH to diagnose. I guesss its a lack of education. I just bought my mom a few books you guys recommended - (she was recently diagnosed hypo) and my sister is hypo but the docs dont think so because her TSH is normal. Crazy.
