Guest guest
I'm too lazy to send a separate one. I had my check up today. Without going into too much detail, I will say the labs pretty much stayed the same, I am still at 30% function, which is good, at least it hasn't gone down. The only thing that got worse was my proteinuria went from 2.7 gms to 4.8 gms-don't know why. So, he changed my b/p meds-added altace-and then I'll see him in July again. My H and H came up, HGB from 8.0 to 10.1 and hct from 27 to 32. Still low, but much improved. I have been approved for the Aranesp shots, and hopefully will get the first one next week or the week after. Now that I'm gonna be on a new insurance, I have to go through the same mess all over again, but DR. Oliver said it shouldn't take as long with the second insurance (for whatever reason.) My husband came with me to the appointment, and while we were waiting, he said, " I wonder if that convertible red corvette with the license plate 'NEPHRO' belongs to Dr. Oliver. I asked him about it when he came in, he said no, it must belong to the competition. " (It's really his car, he was just joking.) I said, well that's really neat, I have one just like it, only my license plate says " NYMPHO " on it. ( We have a good, that is, comical, relationship, my doctor and I.) No, I didn't really say that, but I thought about it. Just a little comic relief for you all. Update on the job. I started seeing patients by myself today, and I really do love my job. They're really not giving me much of an orientation. I guess that's because they're overwhelmed. I was really grouchy about it yesterday. But today I am taking it in stride. Yesterday I was just really, really tired because I hadn't had much sleep the night before. Sleep is a good thing. I have a good relationship with my patients. One of the ones I saw today, his wife was telling his daughter, " I like this one better than any of the other nurses they've sent out. " That made me feel good, though there were really only two nurses before me. I don't know that much about labs, or kidneys for that matter, but I know assessment and I know patient care. And what I really love, that I think I get to do more in home health than anywhere else, is be a patient advocate. Anyway, that's what's up with me. Sending you all good thoughts and wishes! _____ * * Yahoo! Groups is subject to the Yahoo! <http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/> Terms of Service. Guest guest
YES! Way to go Marty! Got a question for you.... Now that you're two years out, how frequently do you do labs or see a neph? How often do they do viral tests? Were these tests just triggered by the hospitalization or do they routinely scan for them? Thanks in advance! Guest guest
ohmygod, my jaw dropped. It took me a full minute to recover myself to respond. Good going on the H & H. I cannot think of one thing that changed 's life more than getting his anemia under control. Here's hoping the arasnep works its miracles. I'm with you on home nursing. My husband had a home nurse come by after his vocal cords were removed. During his treatment, both of us developed a complete loathing for the doctors, nurses, admins, social workers (especially the social workers - apologies to any here). However, both of us LOVED his home nurse and really looked forward to her visits. She was the one who was truely helpful. We wrote a letter to the hospital admin saying she should get flowers, champagne and a raise. The letter was read aloud at some hospital awards function - during which she was presented with the champagne and flowers (but not, alas the raise). Her sense of humor (which was rather like yours, now that I think about it) got us through some very bad days. I'm sure you are as wonderful to your patients as she was to us. Thanks again for the laugh! Cy RE: My Update > I'm too lazy to send a separate one. I had my check up today. Guest guest
Hi , Your new job sounds like such a better match for you. The compassionate touch you bring your patients will be a blessing to them all, I am sure. On your labs, it is good your function did not decline, but the increase in protein is concerning. Spilling 4.8 grams in 24 hours is too much. I hope the change in meds helps to bring that under control for you. I was disappointed that you did not get to start your Aranesp shots yesterday. Even though your H and H levels improved, you are still low enough that you will feel a big difference once the injections kick in for you. You will be amazed at the increase in energy you will have. Take care of yourself and don't work too hard!
