Hi D. Hm... a balanced attitude toward life.....reality based.......say,

you aren't on the Board of Directors of Disney are ya?

Seriously though, people's temperaments or dispositions are heavily

genetically based. This doesn't mean you can't tweek toward more balanced,

but naive to think can choose positive outlook or well balanced as on a deli

menu. Thanks. Piper.

Seriously though, more escapist, excuse grasping bunk. Although some forms of psycholigical illness

like depression and schizophenia can be hereditary, to say that someones attitude is geneticly determined is just plain silly. Imagine, a born asshole .....!?!

Following that train of thought, soon prospective parents will be able to have amniotic fluid tested, determine the genetic "temperments or disposition" of the fetus, and if its going to be an asshole, terminate the pregnancy........ And later, as big brother rears his ugly head ever higher, not only will the "machine" terminate those pregnancies, might as well sterilize the parents to prevent the possible negative effect or burden on society from occuring.

Egad! It's not my fault, I was born this way!?!

Egads and Zounds Steve~~

Ya gots to keep up these days stevereeno. Those damned twins studies wreaked

havoc with the simplistic nature vs. nurture arguments, and much more is

genetically determined than we had dreamed of. When I have time I'll send

you some research articles. You say you and your twin brother have always

been kinda inward most of your lives?? :) Piper

Just curious Steve. Why is it that you are always worried about whose fault

something is? That is a serious question borne of curiosity. I just find it

a different kind of orientation to come from. Do we need someone to blame

for things? I think I know what you mean when you say people shouldn't

abdicate responsibility for actions taken, but I find that very seldom

happens, at least in my experience, so I am curious about your stance. Piper

I don't see that Piper was saying outlooks & attitudes are " geneticall=

y determined " at all. I thought she (he?) was meaning that one's gut reacti=

on cannot be chosen, since we are humans, not machines.

I personally am offended at the idea that people can/should " choose to=

be happy " , implying that people have only themselves to blame if they feel =

oppressed... it rather reeks of the attitude some whites had toward slaves =

in the 19th century -- " Look at them happy niggas dancing and singing... now=

why don't those rabble-rousers like Frederick s and Harriet Tubman a=

nd Sojourner Truth just 'get with the program' and stop being so negative? " =

And what about battered women? The very worst thing they can (and oft=

en do) do is to try to have a " balanced outlook " and say " well I don't want =

to have such a negative attitude about him... I can choose to look at the br=

ight side, he buys me nice clothes and we always have good food to eat " etc.=

Many such women end up dead.

Hi Steve

Much as I hate to admit it, there is some evidence that viewpoints

like political conservatism and religiousness have a degree of

heritability. Dont worry about eugenice movements. Eventually the

" Pro Choice " mothers will abort themselves out of the gene pool, and

everybody will be so-called " Pro Life " !
