I went and answered them all " wrong " and I got 179. Which would be a pretty

darn severely affected child if you think about it.

Hmmm.

I know is very young and he could be a WHOLE lot worse. I have a

lot of hope that his intelligence and his special gifts will help him to

overcome his difficulties. And I know that 2-4 seems to be the worst time

for a lot of kids; another year or two will undoubtedly bring amazing

changes. The last year certainly has.

But it does seem lately that he shows a lot more very autistic behaviors.

From the tests, though, those have been balanced by improvements in other

areas, and that is encouraging.

I found the scale. There is a second way to get to the test on the page (I

messed around with the URL to see what else was on the page) that has the scale.

Uh...not formally but I kind of guessed it :0).

But three of them are normal. Does that count? Atlanta is so normal it is

painful. I prefer the autistic behaviours to the normal smart-mouth moody 9

year old behaviour. BLECH! (Sad, huh?)

As for Cherokee and Dakota....well....they are normal, depending on what your

defination of normal is. LOL! Let's just say that Cherokee is a

self-proclaimed freak and Dakota is following in her footsteps.

> scored an overall scaore of 63, what does that mean?

That means that now you have a baseline score. So in a few months, or after

starting any kind of intervention, you can go back to the ATEC and score him

again then compare your two scores to see if the new addition is having a

positive effect, or a negative effect, or no effect at all. :-)

It's a GREAT tool for assessing results.

Other than that, it doesn't mean much at all. You could say that 63 is in

about the 50th percentile of autistic kids, based on the ATEC scoring

tables, but your child's score can change all the time.

Bingo, sweetie!

He'll adjust, and make this his new routine. You know in your head he will,

even if your stomach says doom. It's odd, isn't it, how even GOOD changes

can throw them for a loop, even as they enjoy it. :-(

The score will come down again. He's just making room for dealing with all

this new stuff coming at him.

that shouldn't be percentile. it should say something like smack in the

middle of autism or something like that.

I don't know. Didn't you see the table at the bottom of the scoring report?

Seems to me that the table caps at " 110 and above or 110-149 " or something

like that. I've always assumed that since they cut it off like that, the

scores generally fall between 0 and 110, with a few scoring higher - but not

enough for them to differentiate. 's first score was 107, and at that

time I got the impression that was near the very top of the scale.

So your MIL is still there on her visit, eh? (Or was it your SIL? Someone

unimportant, anyway. ;)

Yes, but we can't slap MIL -- as much as I'd LIKE to.
