Guest guest
So what is the difference between the 2 tummy surgeries? Re: Tummy Tuck and Pregnancy I don't mind the tummy-tuck discussions here, since they tend to directly relate to WLS and pregnancy. If you were posting to the list asking for advice relating to fighting your insurance to cover WLS, or spending lots of time describing your post-op bowel movements and wondering if they're normal, I might ask you to take it to a different list... <snort>... but plastic surgery tends to directly affect your body shape in as major a way as a pregnancy does, so the topics are completely relevant to our list here. Speaking of plastic surgery, I got some hopeful news today. I decided that I would consult with a plastic surgeon just to see what it would cost to fix what's left of my figure... I knew I wouldn't have nearly enough, but at least then I'd know. He took one look at my enormous boobs that hang nearly to my bellybutton and declared, " Your insurance will cover a reduction. " He had been somewhat discouraging when I mentioned a tummy tuck because I still weigh about 200#, but when he got a look at the droopy panniculum, he said that I wasn't a good candidate for an abdominoplasty but I AM a good candidate for a panniculectomy. I guess I didn't really realize they were different, but he described to me how they were, and it made sense. Plus, when he was checking my belly, he discovered... <drum roll> ... a HERNIA!!! <confetti> <cheering> I'd prayed for one of those, because now that means I get to have a panniculectomy covered by insurance!!! WOO HOO!!! Back to pregnancy stuff... anyone here have experience with a tubal reversal or a husband with a vasectomy reversal? I have a friend who's interested in it, and I was wondering if anyone had any idea what success rates are. --Kris Entropy isn't what it used to be. Ready to FLY? Guest guest
From what he described, the abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is an extensive thing that actually pulls up the skin on your belly, re-does your bellybutton, sculpts underneath and then stretches the belly skin down tight. The panniculectomy just removes the apron thingy under your bellybutton and doesn't do anything else. Hey, I'll take what I can get at this point. I used to jog when I was in junior high, before boobs, and I loved it. I haven't been able to do it comfortably in nearly 25 years, and I'm kind-of hoping to do it again. Guest guest
My plastic surgeon said no, that the breast reduction and the panniculectomy would have to be done separately. Guest guest
My surgeon was trying to get my panniculectomy and breast reduction approved at the same time so that they could be done together. She was going to do the panniculectomy and breast reduction would be done together and then my arms and thighs would have been done together in another surgery. However insurance only approved the panniculectomy and not the breast reduction. I guess each surgeon have their own thoughts on what could be done together and what should be done alone. I hope in a few years after I have the baby that I will be able to go and try to get approved for the other surgeries since I now carry my husband's insurance and they seem a tad bit less strict about approvals. Good luck, Laa Re: Tummy Tuck and Pregnancy > > > > Kris, > > > > Thanks for opening the discussion. Guest guest
I think it depends on the surgeon and what he/she feels comfortable skill-wise.
