Hi Janet,

Hang in there with your rescue kitties. They know that you saved them, and will

warm up in time. We rescued a nine-year old kitty (Leo) 4 years ago, and he has

been such a treat, even though there are still signs that he was abused before.

He gets scared for no reason sometimes, and occasionally goes down our basement

or into one of our bathrooms and howls. Very sad. But he gets cuddled, loved,

and I am certain the howling is actually a sign he is healing, as he just

started this a few months ago, and it is concurrent with his positive change in

behavior toward us. He is *such* a treat. He is also extremely moral, and

will go out of his way to protect our other cats if he thinks something happened

to them, even at the possibility of peril for himself for doing so. Of course,

there is no real danger in his sticking up for the others, but he doesnt know

that. One time I accidently stepped on one of our other cat's tail, the other

cat (Fig) squealed, and I picked him up to comfort him. Our Leo came right up

to me and boldly bit me on top of my foot -- thinking I was hurting our Fig. He

has only done stuff like this in response to distress on the part of one of our

other cats, otherwise he is not aggressive. Brave, moral Leo! :)))))

So, keep trying and providing your safe home. You will be rewarded. My theory

is that all animals know when you have rescued them and there is a special bond,

though it may take time.

Take care!

Love to us all,

That is just precious, June. I wish my cats would be as friendly as yours. I rescued them from the shelter where they would have lived as long as needed. But they were four months before they were turned in and before that were born to a barn cat. So they are very scared of most anything. When I pick them up to put them on my lap......they have to jump down. Even if they immediately decide to jump back up. When they get on my recliner with me it's a real treat.
