Guest guest Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 That's a smart idea. Pogo's never hurt me though, not when hugging me. He's about the sweetest cat I've ever owned but my son would differ with me there. He thinks his cat is the sweetest but she doesn't hug, LOL. Pogo has always given hugs, since he was a tiny kitten and I brought him home from the pound. And these two cats know who they belong to, or who belongs to them I should say. Penny will seek out my son when she comes in. If he's sitting somewhere or lying in bed she will jump up with him and snuggle in. Pogo does the same with me. Guest guest Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 That is just precious, June. I wish my cats would be as friendly as yours. I rescued them from the shelter where they would have lived as long as needed. But they were four months before they were turned in and before that were born to a barn cat. So they are very scared of most anything. When I pick them up to put them on my lap......they have to jump down. Even if they immediately decide to jump back up. When they get on my recliner with me it's a real treat. Janet Lumpectomy on Tuesday/Biopsy of other breast on 12/27/05 Quote

Guest guest Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 I had a cat like your 2. He died recently, we don't know how but my husband and son found him at our gate. It was very sad and I'm glad I wasn't here. He was wild and a woman who rescued cats caught him and hat him neutered and sort of tamed him and then put him up for adoption. She did this with all the cats she rescued. We adopted him and he was a bit leery at first but he took to us but he was never a lap cat, never would get on the furniture, even when invited. The few times he did he looked so uncomfortable, kind of like a butler who wasn't supposed to sit on the master's good sofa, LOL. But we loved him, there was something very special about a cat that went from wild to allowing a toddler to carry him around upside down and being as gentle as could be with said toddler, that was my son when we adopted the cat. I adore cats, all animals. Most of our cats have been very special with their own personalities and quirks. My son's cat will glare at anyone who gets to close to him when they're snuggling, including me, LOL. And she and my cat don't like each other very much but they tolerate each other most of the time. It's all rather comical. I have so many animal stories, I really should write a book. LICS June "The best protection any woman can have...is courage." Guest guest Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 June, I have had a lot of cats over the years but sooner or later they would disappear....at night. We do have a lot of coyotes in our area.......and raccoons. Those coons would come right up on our deck when we lived at the lake.......and let me tell you they look big and fierce. So when I got these two (sisters) I decided they are going to be indoor cats only. My husband went into a nursing care center in October so i got these little squirts in January 2000. About 30 years ago I had a really nice black cat named Coal (should have been named Charcoal). He met the same fate outdoors as all the others, but this time we had to deal with finding him, etc. So when I saw these two black kittens I just had to have one or two.......they have tufts in their ears and black fur between their toes. And remind me of Coal all the time. Janet Quote
Guest guest Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 We used to have that problem when we lived in Coarsegold. Now we live in an area that doesn't have coyotes, not that close anyway. I lost a lot of cats to coyotes or bobcats. I've found that dark colored cats seemed to survive better in the wild so I'm surprised that your black cat disappeared. Maybe the cats I had that were dark were just more savvy than the rest of the cats. The one we just lost to we don't know what was a solid dark gray and he lived for 8 years in coyteville, sometimes not coming home for several months and we thought, well, guess he's gone too, then he'd show up. LICS June "The best protection any woman can have...is courage." Cady Stanton Secular Breast Cancer Support group: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/SecularBCSupport/ -----Original Message-----From: breastcancer2 [mailto:breastcancer2 ]On Behalf Of Janet AndersenSent: Saturday, December 17, 2005 7:42 PMTo: breastcancer2 Subject: Re: rearranging myself for the cat(no subject) June, I have had a lot of cats over the years but sooner or later they would disappear....at night. Janet Quote

Guest guest Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Hi Janet, Hang in there with your rescue kitties. They know that you saved them, and will warm up in time. We rescued a nine-year old kitty (Leo) 4 years ago, and he has been such a treat, even though there are still signs that he was abused before. He gets scared for no reason sometimes, and occasionally goes down our basement or into one of our bathrooms and howls. Very sad. But he gets cuddled, loved, and I am certain the howling is actually a sign he is healing, as he just started this a few months ago, and it is concurrent with his positive change in behavior toward us. He is *such* a treat. He is also extremely moral, and will go out of his way to protect our other cats if he thinks something happened to them, even at the possibility of peril for himself for doing so. Of course, there is no real danger in his sticking up for the others, but he doesnt know that. One time I accidently stepped on one of our other cat's tail, the other cat (Fig) squealed, and I picked him up to comfort him. Our Leo came right up to me and boldly bit me on top of my foot -- thinking I was hurting our Fig. He has only done stuff like this in response to distress on the part of one of our other cats, otherwise he is not aggressive. Brave, moral Leo! )))) So, keep trying and providing your safe home. You will be rewarded. My theory is that all animals know when you have rescued them and there is a special bond, though it may take time. Take care!
