For me, it just confirmed my natural instinct, which is to think that diets are

crazy. I thought so as a teenager, and young adult, and even as I was steadily

gaining weight as an mature adult, I remember telling people that I just

" couldn't diet " , and that I never had. Even when I would have loved to lose

weight (because being 50 - 60 pounds overweight really wasn't much fun), I

couldn't imagine myself doing it. So this chapter was very reinforcing for me.

I could now know that I wasn't crazy, or worse, completely lacking in any kind

of self-discipline, and that not only was there a better way, but that the

dieting route WOULDN'T work. Whew! That's a load off of me.

also like, but that don't honor your body)  without getting into a restriction

cycle and all that goes with it. And can you lose weight completely because of

how you are caring for yourself on the INside, without regard to what so-and-so

will think and how your co-workers will be envious, etc, etc..... "

I keep waiting for that " something " to kick in and I'll start losing weight

automatically.. just because. I'm sure it doesn't quite work that way, but

there are and have been various clicks and I just keep trudging along. Sandarah

newer, deeper ways. I used to notice that when I was in bed and it was nearly

time to go to sleep, sometimes I'd instead sort of wake up to myself and be

fully present for the first time all day. I would wonder where that me had been

the rest of the day as I went through the routines and shoulds and oughts and

have to's that comprised my life (including dieting). Lately I feel more

present and am slowly dropping away various parts of various boxes and boxed-in

thinking. In think there is a " true self " I'm starting to unearth in the

process... And, the whole issue of weight/diet is looking very differently than

it did just a few short months ago... Even so, I have gained, my fat pants are

tight at times - and I'm not flipped out about it, I have a calm about my

weight, whether or not I eat and a sense of commitment to this process. We

shall see...

up in the morning feeling guilty for whatever I ate the day before,

worrying about what the scale will read when I do my morning weigh in,

or dreading the day because I will spend it worrying about

food.....Yea! We are going to my son's birthday party tonight and I

know I can eat anything my DIL serves WITHOUT feeling guilty! It is

such a relief and so wonderfully freeing I don't ever want to go back

to the diet mentality. And as an added bonus I actually eat less,

knowing I can eat again whenever I want.

I am having a hard time integrating IE and eating foods that honor my body and not putting the yummy foods on the forbidden list.  Sandy

This was a big obstacle for me. Letting go of the diet mentality was so much

harder than I thought!

The other day I went to lunch with my Mom and several of my aunts, and I ordered

what I wanted: chicken pesto sandwich, raspberry salad and mudslide brownie that

was to DIE for, and I ate what I wanted and took some home. My mom ate until she

was stuffed and then complained about how she felt, how she wouldn't have to eat

the rest of the day, and I know her well enough to know that she probably had a

skimpy breakfast to " save up " for that lunch and that she'd feel guilty about

overeating. My aunt ordered the Ultimate Grilled Cheese sandwich...without the

cheese. Just lettuce and tomato because she " didn't need all those calories " and

then a light soup. She mentioned dieting, and I asked if she was on a diet. She

said " Seefood diet until January. " I know that she diets regularly and is rarely

" successful " so this made me really sad.

I never realized how miserable the diet mindset it until I was able to see it

from the outside. It's Thanksgiving today, and I'm so thankful that I'll be able

to show up and eat what I want, maybe even get really full, and not feel guilty

or like I have to go home and plan a diet or jump on the stationary bike. I'm so

thankful that I have space in my brain to think about my creative work instead

of how I'm going to lost 10 pounds by Christmas.

I get angry when I think of the thousands of dollars I wasted on diets, gyms, weight watchers, TOPS, magazines etc. I was really, really pissed a couple of weeks ago when Dr. Oz even had a Weight Watcher`s lecturer explaining their points program. I get angry when I think of the thousands of dollars I wasted on diets, gyms, weight watchers, TOPS, magazines etc. I was really, really pissed a couple of weeks ago when Dr. Oz even had a Weight Watcher`s lecturer explaining their points program. I'd bring marshmallows! lol Good for you and now you are able to live your life

differently - for your own sweet self and not enriching the FAT diet industry.
