Hi Terry,

If you have to ask him for the FT4 slip separate, ask him to include a FT3

with it. It really will help get a clearer picture.

Pam,

I love your posts...no matter what is going on you have such a way with

words and humor it always makes me feel better!!!

I never would have thought about the 1/4 splits to keep me in the 8 hours

thing if you hadn't told me about it, and it is making a difference! I do

save the 1/2 for nighttime and I am functioning much better during the day

this way too! So a HUGE thank you for that advice, no matter what the docs

say, it does make a difference.

The PTU is probably what is helping your eyes resolve. Before my eye doc

agreed to the PTU for my eyes he did tell me that people on PTU for hyper

show marked improvement with their eyes...and I am now living proof that it

will work for the eyes. RAI does not do anything to lower the TSI

antibodies, except kill the thyroid eventually, and it is the antibodies

that attack our eyes...why can't they see the common sense in this?

If your doctor is putting 2 and 2 together with the RAI folks and the bad

eyes and you with your PTU and eye improvement so he is not quite so into

rushing people to RAI...then you have done a tremendous service for people

who follow you! Isn't it nice when we can make that kind of contribution?

:)

Holly,

I live in Indiana, just outside of Cincinnati. I'm going to start with a new

endo in Feb., and was wondering who you see in Cinti. Can you email me with the

name, if we aren't supposed to directly to the group? I'd love to know, since

this will be my 4th in Cincy....one retired, one went East, and one shouldn't be

practicing (in my opinion). Thanks!

Hi Sonya,

's right. These are old tests that were replaced with the FT4 about a

decade ago. Your doctor is also doing you a disservice by not even

considering the addition of T3 or glandular extracts. You deserve better.

With Shomon's list back up, this may be the perfect time to do some

shopping. Good luck, Elaine

Hi Sonya,

Hopefully your doc did a blood level or saw evidence in your CBC of B12

deficiency. If not, you can develop imbalances of folate and other B vitamins

by only taking B12. We do often have deficiencies of B vitamins, particularly

B1, B2 and B6 and multivitamins generally have the right balance of the B

vitamins. You can also add B complex that contains all the B's in the right

proportions.

Hi Sonya,

I can't believe your doctor will not use a T3 supplement!

Pam listed the top docs is back up, maybe time to go there and see if you

can find an endo who will actually work with you.

http://thyroid.about.com/library/weekly/bldoc1.htm

I think a test you should ask her to run is either the TRAb antibodies or

the TPO...Elaine can tell us both, I am just not remembering which it is,

but it will tell if you are converting the stupid T4 only she is giving you

into the T3 your body needs.

Hang tough and I hope you find a new doc soon!

Hi Sonya-

Please find another doctor. T3 uptake is an old useless test that doesn't

measure T3 levels. They call it T3 uptake because they use radioactive T3

as sort of a marker. If you want me to explain it to you in more detail I'd

be happy to. Otherwise, suffice it to say, doctors that are keeping up with

what's going on today don't use it.

It's good that she increased your Synthroid. But if you continue to have

problems after a month or so, get retested. If those results come back

normal and you still don't feel right, make sure you get your FT3 levels

tested. Or get another doctor.

I know how difficult it can be finding decent doctors so hang in there.

You're more likely to give up when you're hypothyroid so try to keep that in

mind.

Take care,
