I am glad you were able to post and tell your story. Many of your symptoms

sound all too familiar.

One thing that jumped out at me was the panic attacks and your sensitivity

to light. Are you also sensitive to noise and touch? My son, with mito, is

very sensory sensitive and has what are very like (many even) panic attacks.

He can easily become overwhelmed in social situations, not from the people,

but from the sensory input. He has been able to deal with this better since

coming to understand what he is actually dealing with. When he was young,

the sensitivity to touch seemed to be the worse, but that is because I could

see it. He can tolerate firm touch, but not light touch now. As he got

older, the thing that caused him the panic attacks was the noise

sensitivity. He would often have to leave a restaurant because of this and

go sit in the car. He has learned that focusing on a book or something else

will help him to control it. He still has problems when tired and will take

frequent bathroom breaks to find less stimulation. He use to not make eye

contact and we discovered it was because of visual sensitivity. Now when in

a restaurant, we always sit in a booth and tend to go to those places that

have tall backs on the booths and dimly lit. He is very sensitive to bright

sunny days. He says that all these things hurt.

Sorry for the detail, but I thought it might help. It is felt this is due to

his mito.

Welcome Louise,

I do not have any real answers for you but alot of your symptoms my 10 year

old son has. I found it interesting that others described you as a lazy and

extremely bright. He got help for his bowel problems by taking the Qgel.

You may have already tried that. He also eats mostly chicken. During the

summer now every week it seems some organization is having brat fries (a

German tradition here in Wisconsin)--anyhow, he can barely finish one even

though he weighs 97 lbs and most kids his age eat 2 or 3. Then he feels

sick.

He also has the social phobia and lately I have been noticing more the

depression.

Well, sorry I could not help more but you are not alone and it is not all in

your head.

Hi Louise,

Are you sure all of your symptoms are being caused by the same thing?

The beginning of your email sounds like Bipolar Disorder to me. I am no expert, but has that been ruled out? My mom is a therapist, and it sounds familiar to me.

I am sorry I cannot help you with your other symptoms as I am not really that clear on all this Mito stuff myself. :o)

Sheila
