Like you said, you did cheat. You can't do phase 1 and eat fruit and chocolate.

Each person needs to decide for themselves what is more important. Is it worth

it to put off the hike and complete Phase 1 (which JMO I think the better you do

one phase 1 the better you will do in phase 2) or is it better to hike and

cheat?

I hiked on Phase 1 and didn't have any problems. I just ate a lot of nuts

with just some M & M's in it. It kept my energy up and didn't make me gain

weight.

I know it is cheating, but it helps a little. I also had dried strawberries &

blueberries in my trail mix.

Although... if you're already very fit and if you are used to these

types of hikes... you should be OK. Just take it slow, bring plenty of

water and snacks.

Sounds as if your whole trail mix was off-plan. I'm sure it kept your

energy up, because it has so much sugar in it, but since the main

point of Phase 1 is to detox from all the sugar, that would require

her to start the two weeks of Phase 1 all over again. Guess only she

can decide if it's worth it.

Why put off an excellent hiking trip just because of a diet? I am

fairly committed to my diet, but I will bend the rules to go hiking -

especially if you live in a region of the country where the weather

is good only 3 months out of the year.

actually the diet recommends eating something high in carbs after exercise so

that's not really cheating to me

When I go on backpacking trips I allow some " cheats " , like a big oatmeal

raison cookie or an apricot-oatmeal bar for dessert after dinner. Not only

have I burned off around 5,000 calories that day anyway (hiking uphill with

a 30 pound pack), but it helps me stay warmer at night if I have something

heavy like that in my stomach before going to bed.

By the way, Kelli, where in Wyoming are you? I am up near Estes Park.

Connie,

Hi, I live in Casper, WY. I have never been to Estes Park, but I hear it is

beautiful. I hear the hiking is awesome.

I find that eating just a few " cheat " items while on Phase 1 does not hurt my

weight. Like you said, you are burning so many calories, it doesn't matter too

much. And by the time your long hike is done, you don't feel like eating much

supper - if so, just a salad or something light.
