No problem, I didn't think about you being at work. I was thinking it would

keep you busy and you might forget about the chocolates.

I am glad that it is not really serious, just the munchies from boredom. Those

are usually pretty easy to get past, by just doing something else.

Luckily, if I were to get any chocolate, it would require a trip downstairs to

the vending machines in the cafeteria!

(BTW, did I tell you our B & B pickles turned out really good? We're doing

garlic-dills tonight!)

No, you didn't tell me about the bread and butters. I am sooooooo jealous! Are

you using regular cukes or the pickling type? I really need to do this. The

boys will eat a whole jar of pickles in a couple of days.

They are pickling cukes.

We have cucumbers running out our ears! I'm getting very creative in making

He went seizure free the very first day of ketosis and was sz-free or

the keto diet, but life has been so up in the air I am thinking it will

I am also mad and worried that we do not have a dietician to help us with

either Atkins or Keto diet. is getting so thin and frail looking.

He was already small for his age, now he is even smaller. I worry about

his health. Does your keto team dietician help you a lot or a little?

Or does it depend on the team? Do you have access to the dietician more

than just at induction? I am trying to see how much help a dietician

would be.

I can use any help and encouragement you can give me. Thanks in advance

Dear Pam,

I'm on the Atkins diet too and have been for about 18 months, however my diet

is unmonitored by medical staff/dieticians etc apart from regular blood-level

checks. I've had various types of seizures during the past forty years, though

none grand mals.

In recent years I've become more inquisitive and nosey about various aspects

of epilepsy with the medical fraternity, with some remarkable lessons along the

way, anyway...........

Prior to becoming seizure-free, and now aura-free, I discovered and to some

extent had it supported by my neurologist that seizures can be triggered during

the heat of the summer months, even in the UK lol. Also, another likely time

of day when seizures may occur is in the evenings, like when you're winding

down from the day in the lounge or whatever......... Both of the above seemed

to be consistent with the main pattern of my seizures.

Nowadays, as most in the group may know, my seizures are controlled not only

by meds but by a Vagus Nerve Stimulator and some crude form of the Atkins diet,

I hope that helps in some way,

Best wishes,

Phil

You might want to increase calories slightly. He shouldn't be losing

weight on the diet.

You might want to increase calories slightly. He shouldn't be losing

weight on the diet.

Pam,

First of all, bless you!!

Have you checked his ketosis before dinner when he's seizing? Maybe

he is burning too many calories during the day, and needs more at

lunch or needs an afternoon snack. Is it possible he's out of the

home in the afternoon and is cheating? Are you using sunscreen on

him in the afternoon, or brushing his teeth with a non-keto

toothpaste in the late morning or afternoon? I bet if the Atkins

works the rest of the day, it's something with the diet you just

haven't figured out yet.

Our dietician isn't really very passionate about the diet, and thus

only mediochre. There have been many questions she couldn't answer,

and that was that. No " I'll find out the answer for you. " I find

the best resource to be the parents on this website; much better

than the dietician.

Hang in there!

Debbie (mom to Bryce, 5 ketokid since 9/03 and seizure free since

9/03; just beginning to wean meds and terrified....)
