Angie, Yippee, you’re in the final

stretch!!! You can do it!

I’m exhausted. Very interesting

experiment here—I’m dizzy and weak and foggy/groggy. No migraine

right now, at least. I feel drugged or intoxicated. I’d rather pick a

different drug though—and a party to drink it at.

Going to bed.

This has taught me that nothing gluten wise is worth all this misery,

right now to the point that when I eat, it goes right through me, and

keeping me awake, etc, etc.

I agree. I’ve realized that getting a

clear diagnosis will help me in my “food add” issues—I can

focus on a food plan with ferocity for a while, then I’ll read something

that distracts me and wander off forgetting what I’d committed to. Gluten

intolerance is too serious for that. Now that I’m gluten challenging,

though, even if the biopsy is negative I’ll have a lot more information

about my reaction to gluten to sustain me in begin gluten free.

So Angie, I assume you’re not

enjoying your last tour of gluten favorites? Not savoring that pizza and

bagels? Me neither. I’m trying. I even ate a donut the other day which I

would never do usually because they’re such an anti-food (processed white

flour, saturated and trans-fat, sugar…) Made falafel with a friend Monday

the old way and sort of enjoyed it, but not so much. I’m looking forward

to making it from scratch and gluten free.

I’ll be looking for your doctor

report tomorrow night Angie. Remind me where you are in the world so I can send

good vibes in the right direction.

I'm the (used to be) type that loved pizza, bagels, spaghetti, etc etc

now I look at these foods and know the effects from them, so no, lol,

not enjoying the gluten binging. Am getting nervous about tomorrow's

appt but yes I will update you when I find out anything. Good luck

to you and thank you for you words of encouragement.

Angie~ I am so excited for you! Please let us know how your appointment goes. I am sure you are looking forward to being gluten-free again. I have about one more week to go until my GI appointment. I am also ready for this to be over with. Good luck! Hi! It was so good to read your note and Angie's today. I am so looking forward to this challenge being overwith. I have binged on the foods that I think I will miss the most. I think I have to make one more trip to Dunkin Donuts before this is overwith. It's so hard to believe that gluten can make you feel so sick. I am on day number 5 with a migraine, but it could be due to the change in weather here. The fatigue is unbelievable also. I am so looking forward to getting some energy back. I have been preparing myself for the possibility of a less than definitive diagnosis, but I will definitely go back to my gluten-free way of life. Take care! ArleneLaurie Bilyeu wrote: I agree. Arlene,

can I confess that two nights ago I came out of the bathroom, crying,

and told my boyfriend, I don't think I can do this anymore? then the

next morning tried to reason out that I have done enough damage, I

don't need to keep eating this right? in other words, I've been a BIG

whiner/crybaby these past few days? Keep your chin up during this last

week for you

Thanks

Good Morning :) and a happy Saturday to you

I'm still whiny, really tired (but able to sleep longer than 2 hours

at a time~~yeah!!) stiff and sore (think I'm getting a nasty cold or

really sore throat from the acid reflux?) so I'm still a pain to be

around. As far as eating gluten, I've switched to junk food with the

theory, if I'm going to get sick, I'm going to do it from the tasty

gluten.... is this wrong? Hope your Saturday goes well

Is it wrong to eat junk food as long as we’re

sick anyway???? Beats me. Do whatever makes it happen, I think. I had a loaf of

black olive bread this week—It was elegant and wonderful. I also had a

burger and fries for lunch yesterday (not McD’s) which felt like a real

splurge—not a Weight Watchers item. But I’ll maybe never order such

a thing again, so… Maybe I’m getting into this final gluten tour

thing.

I hope you don’t get more sick on

top of being glutenish.

Ouch Arlene, that is an expensive mistake…

Your brain was probably gluten-impaired.

I am trying to eat healthy. It’s my

natural bent anyway—I do think that if we want our bodies to act well, we

should give them the kind of fuel they need. I also just lost lots of weight

with Weight Watchers in the last year and I don’t want to compromise

that. I gained a pound last week, though. I’ll probably skip the junk

food this week. Back to that whole grain pita bread and cous-cous. My doc didn’t

say anything about continuing gluten past the tests and I’m trying to

deny the possibility. J I’ll have blood tests next week, two weeks before the

biopsy, so if they’re lost I’ll have two weeks of gluten still to

offer up to the needle.

And I agree that it’s hard to know

how to answer when someone says “how are you?” I can’t even

remember who I’ve told I’m doing this, so I don’t always know

which short answer will be understood! Today I have a migraine again, though,

so I will be avoiding anyone who might ask.

I actually wanted to complain to you more, but I am trying my best to

just deal with this. When anyone asks how I am these days, I usually just

reply " I'm ok " as nobody really wants to hear a bunch of

complaints.

You sound like you are eating a bit healthier than Angie and me.

I don't think I have ever eaten as much junk food as I have during the past

couple of weeks.

Did your doctor say anything about continuing with gluten until all the

results are in? My doctor never mentioned anything. I actually had

to switch doctors as the first one I went to wasn't on my insurance plan.

I got the names mixed up and went to a doctor who was recommended by the celiac

group in my area. I thought I had seen him listed on my plan, but then I

got a bill in the mail for $450.00! Not a good mistake to make!

I hear you Arlene, I've never eaten so much junk food for so long, am

really sick of that, I find myself craving a big lettuce salad with

veggies, ect.... sick of the complaining/whining I've heard from

myself too.. But we all are almost done with this, we CAN do this,

I just keep reminding myself of going gluten free and the healthier

choices that we can have then as well. My doctor never said anything

about eating gluten after the tests, but I am going to find out if he

does want me to keep eating it, can I at least cut back on it? I

didn't realize it yesterday until my bf told me, but I wasn't eating

at all, to avoid the " sickies " then I noticed how much smaller my

fingers appeared and a ring that I normally can only fit on two

fingers now fit on all (which this a.m. only fits on the two again)

Anyway sorry for the long post, just wanted to tell both of you:

chin up we are almost there. :)

Yeah, definitely eat it until you know you have had all the tests. I can't

remember if I told

this here, but my biopsy came back negative and the Dr said I did not have

celiac. I

stopped eating gluten anyway and at my 6 week check up, he was surprised by how

much

better I felt and looked back - and realized no one ever ran the full celiac

panel, just IgA I

think. I switched Drs in the middle of the process, but brought him a copy of

my chart

from the other Dr. How did this get missed? So now he says maybe the biopsy

missed it

and I do have celiac. Well forget it - not going through this again. Ugh!

I recently did a challenge too. I decided to

keep eating

gluten

Here's something to consider. Once you get the go ahead to eat GF, the first

day or two is

great since you are excited that you are going to feel better. In my case, it

took over a

week to notice significant improvement, so day 5 or so was not so fun - didn't

feel like I

was suddenly better, but was also realizing (again) that I would have to give up

lots of

food. How did I solve it? LOTS of chocolate! I am not usually someone who

eats

chocolate all the time, but I gave myself permission to eat all the GF chocolate

I wanted for

the first week of going back GF. I felt much less deprived.

Just wanted to give everyone the heads up to stock up on chocolate as they near

the end

of their challenges ;-)

Thanks - just wait until week 2 or 3 when you have to cut back on the chocolate

and see if

you thank me then ;-) Actually, I am still letting myself indulge in a bit of

really good dark

chocolate a few times a week. I figure I am not eating cookies, cakes, white

bread, etc. so

a little bit of chocolate is needed to keep me from eating too healthy...how

does that

sound as a nutritional theory?

Soon you all will most likely be at the stage I am, trying to figure out how to

eat GF for life.

And waking up with the big D and *blush* stinky gas and thinking, " Oh dear, what

did I eat

NOW that I shouldn't have! " Then doing the " trying to remember what you ate for

the last

48 hours " memory test. Keep a food/how I feel today journal for the first few

weeks of

going GF. I am still working out how I am going to fit GF eating into my life,

and it does

seem to help me with the process. I write in " code " (like D or G instead of the

full words)

just in case anyone sees it and wonders why I am writing about my bathroom

habits!

Also, write yourself a note - either mental or actually on paper - when you are

feeling

really bad from eating gluten. Then when you are tempted with a lovely bread

basket at

your favorite restaurant, you can remember that note and know it is not worth

it. I tend to

forget how bad it is and thoughts like, " Oh, it will just give me a little D "

creap into my

head - fully recalling that it is not just a little upset stomach and really

does effect my

whole body keeps me on the GF path.

More good sense. Actually, eating a little

bit of dark chocolate is very good nutritional sense… Deprivation is not

the point of healthy eating. Dark chocolate has healthy stuff in it to go along

with the pleasure. I vote you give yourself permission to continue the dark

chocolate habit indefinitely.

I have been keeping a food log during the

gluten challenge. I will definitely keep it to re-peruse when I feel tempted in

the future. I’m doing it now to document my experience for when I see the

doctor again—to avoid that amnesia that happens while wearing a paper

gown.

Yes dark chocolate in moderation does have healthy benefits (repeating

to myself IN MODERATION)..... :D

Laurie, a note...... from my dr appt last week, both the nurse/assist

and doctor loved the notes I had with me about the symptoms/side

effects that I have experienced...

How do you get rid of the FAT BLOTED feeling????Jen wrote: Thanks - just wait until week 2 or 3 when you have to cut back on the chocolate and see if you thank me then ;-) Actually, I am still letting myself indulge in a bit of really good dark chocolate a few times a week. I figure I am not eating cookies, cakes, white bread, etc. so a little bit of chocolate is needed to keep me from eating too healthy...how does that sound as a nutritional theory?Soon you all will most likely be at the stage I am, trying to figure out how to eat GF for life. And waking up with the big D and *blush* stinky gas and thinking, "Oh dear, what did I eat NOW that I shouldn't have!" Then doing the "trying to remember what you ate for the last 48 hours" memory test. Keep a food/how I feel

today journal for the first few weeks of going GF. I am still working out how I am going to fit GF eating into my life, and it does seem to help me with the process. I write in "code" (like D or G instead of the full words) just in case anyone sees it and wonders why I am writing about my bathroom habits! Also, write yourself a note - either mental or actually on paper - when you are feeling really bad from eating gluten. Then when you are tempted with a lovely bread basket at your favorite restaurant, you can remember that note and know it is not worth it. I tend to forget how bad it is and thoughts like, "Oh, it will just give me a little D" creap into my head - fully recalling that it is not just a little upset stomach and really does effect my whole body keeps me on the GF path.>> Jen~~> Thanks for this tip....

please keep them coming as you think of them,> you have been one of the biggest helpers here, thank you !!> Angie>
