Hi all,

I think I've posted this before, and I'm sure no one wants to hear this,

BUT... I was more than 2 years post op before getting pg, and my weight

had been stable for at least a year. I'm now 20 weeks pg and have yet to

gain a pound. My doctor is not worried, and I'm not too concerned, but I

haven't heard of someone more than 2 years post-op NOT gaining weight by

this point.

I keep thinking it will pile on in the next few months, and maybe it

will, but has ANYONE else had this experience after being more than a

year or two post-op?

I think that it's not un-heard-of among non-WLS women. My mother, who never

had WLS and does not have a weight problem, didn't gain anything when she

had my sister. I guess for some women, things just " shift " around without

adding extra. LOL

Alice,

You shouldnt have asked that LOL......My experience was sort of similar. I was

1 year 9 months out from surgery when I got pregnant, and I didnt gain a pound

until month 4, then from month 4 on, I gained 34 lbs. lol....I am not saying

this will happen to you, but it could happen in the last half of your pregnancy

like it did for me. Good luck!

pregnant, although I haven't reached my goal weight, it still

happened.....anyway, I'm 28 weeks pregnant, and all along haven't gained a

pound until this last month when I gained 7 lbs.....so everyone is different,

and your weight gain will be different also....now for me being this far

along, 7 lbs is good, since with my first child, I think I gained about 50

lbs by this time....what a difference with WLS!!!! Good Luck everyone...may

everyone have a Happy and Healthy baby........

I am 21 months post op. I am 7 1/2 months pregnant and have gained

25lbs. My ob-gyn was concerned in the beginning about weight gain,

but he is very pleased with my gain so far. I spoke to my surgeon

about the weight gain (I was concerned it was to much), he said don't

worry about it, just take it off when the baby is born.

I do notice I can eat more during pregnancy, and also can tolerate

sugar better (not totally, and still can't tolerate milk).

I have been having lots of problems with my b12 being low, and also

my protein and calcium, at this point, I am more concerned about

those issues.

Good Luck to you all :)

I got pregnant at about 12 mos post op, but had been plateaud for at least

2 mos with no weight loss before. I'm now 34 weeks pg with no weight gain

whatsoever (I actually lost 10 lbs in the beginning). Every check up and

test indicates the baby is healthy and measuring a week older than she is.

With me, it seems like my body weight is shifting from other parts of my

body to my belly.

Be vigilant and be smart, but don't worry too much (ha! easier said than

done, right?). My doctor has been concerned throughout my pregnancy about

my lack of weight gain, but, then again, she wasn't there during my last

pregnancy when my doctor begged me stop gaining weight! My body feels

healthy (except for this never-ending flu that I can't take anything for)

and the baby is incredibly active so I'm not worried.

My favorite subject! Weight Gain!! ha! I was about 9 months post-op, and 20

lbs from goal when I got pregnant. So far I have gained about 35 lbs total

being pregnant, and I am about 33 weeks pregnant. I also can eat more and

seem to be more tolerant of sugar than before.

I have really had to have the mind set of 'letting go' about the weight gain

issue. It is so easy to worry and make myself feel bad about gaining the

weight, (and feel like I will never lose a pound again - that hopeless

feeling I had pre-op), I have learned to just let go. I will focus on losing

the weight after the baby comes.

Hi Annie,

I'm glad to see you've let go of the whole weight gain issue. :-) It can be

distressing to watch that scale go up when we've gotten so used to seeing

it go down. And even though I haven't gained any weight this pregnancy

(except a few of the 10 lbs I lost initially), I STILL get on that stupid

scale every morning before I get into the shower. I think I'm just

programmed. I think those of us who've had other pregnancies pre-wls and

have seen the horrible toll that massive weight gain during pregnancy can

take on your self esteem and body may have a little psychological

advantage. Even if I had gained 30 or 40 lbs during this pregnancy it's

nothing compared to the 75+ I gained with my son...not to mention the

weight I KEPT gaining after his birth. You can feel pretty confident that

you won't have those kinds of problems, and that you can concentrate on

being a new mom and loving your new little girl...instead of freaking out

about how huge and uncomfortable you are.

BTW, Annie, where are you planning on having that baby? We could end up at

the same hospital at the same time!

Thanks, Rusty. That's good to hear. I do notice myself eating more

lately, and I'm actually happy about it. I feel like it helps give me

more chances to get in calcium especially.
