I hear you . I can't exercise much either. I just will get

extremely exhausted if I try. I've gained a lot of weight too. I keep

needing larger and larger sizes until dh and I finally agreed, I got a

couple of jeans in my present size for when I go out. At home, I wear

either sweat pants or some lighter, pj bottoms that sort of look like

sweat pants. They were much cheaper than buying more jeans so if I go

up in size, I won't be out so much money. I can't stand to wear

anything tight or stuff really pressing against me.

This is my first group on the internet that I have joined.

Yes, but we're here for you to ask questions of, whine or vent when you

need to, just whatever, we're here for you. We're not quite the same as

a doctor, we aren't going to throw everything back at you. Stick around

for a while, you'll see people vent, ask questions, help each other,

we're there for each other.

It's hard for a lot of us to exercise. My medicines don't help with me

loosing weight either.

Unfortunately, you do tend to loose friends sometimes when you have

chronic illness. You also make new ones through the lists. We all have

lost friends over this and realize how much the lists can help with

people who truly understand what you are going through. Hang in there,

we're here for you.

OOPS - " NOW " instead of " NOT " - I WISH!! LOL

Weight gain

I had an open RNY 8/2/99

I got pregnant this December.

I had already gained 5-7 pounds from quitting smoking, then got

pregnant. I am not 23 pounds higher than my pre-quitting

smoking

weight, which translates to about 15 pounds since baby.

I am 22 weeks last Friday.

Sylvia,

As with everything it varies greatly, and the closer you are to goal, the more

you will gain like a " normal " person. Those who still have weight to lose may

continue to lose throughout the pregnancy or only gain a small amount. I was 2

lbs from goal when I got preggers and my OB told me 25-35 lbs was normal. I'm

at 30 lbs gained exactly and ready to pop any time now :)

I conceived 9 months post op and was about 50 lbs. from my goal. I

lost another 12 after getting pregnant and gained back 8 of that by

the time I delivered so really no gain. She is now almost 3 weeks

old and I am down a little over 20 lbs.

Perhaps I am the exception to all of you....I was at goal weight when

I conceived 11 months post-op which was about 165, but when I

delivered 9 1/2 months later I was 253! Two weeks after he was born

I was 50 pounds lighter, but had a very difficult time getting the

excess weight off. I had a sugar problem while pregnant and it

continued afterwards which inabled me to lose. I didn't discover

this until our son was nearly 10 months old and that's when I was put

on glucophage. If anyone knows anything about glucophage it really

works to regulate your sugar which also helps you get pregnant fairly

quickly.....guess what? I'm due with baby #2 very soon. :-)

I am very happy with myself this go around....I have only gained 23

pounds!!!! This doesn't include the extra 15 pounds I packed on when

I started taking prenatals along w/ the glucophage. My PCP had me do

that in case I got pregnant....you think she set me up to get

pregnant? Ha!!

I'm pretty confident that I will get back down to size...

AnnMarie,

Oooohhh, it is SO normal, especially for us chickies who've worked so

hard and endured so much to get the weight off! I spent a significant

portion of my entire second trimester bawling my eyes out because I knew

I was pg, but I only just looked like I was gaining my weight back, and

I didn't look pg I just looked fat. I had really begun to enjoy feeling

like I looked NORMAL and didn't draw negative attention from rude

junior-high boys strutting in the mall. It was mainly psychological;

once I began to look " pregnant " instead of just " fat " , I didn't feel

quite so horrible. But you're right; it was a major source of worry for

me. My thin friends sympathized with me but really didn't quite

understand the level of fear I was experiencing.

My one encouragement to you would be to put your anxieties to good use

for you. Make certain you're only eating healthy food, and don't use

pregnancy as an excuse for licentious eating. It's easy to do, and

friends will even encourage you to do it, but don't give in. It doesn't

hurt to eat lots if you're hungry, just make sure that WHAT you're

eating won't sabotage you. Yes, watermelon does have lots of sugar, but

it's better than eating a Schwan's Lemon Freeze Cup. <grin> Canteloupe

may also satisfy a sugar craving. I couldn't eat grapes because I had a

VBG and the grapeskins get stuck in my silastic ring, but those may also

satisfy a sweet tooth (if that's your weakness).

I didn't do so well postpartum with losing the weight, but I blame it

partially on the less-than-stellar percentages that accompany the VBG

(no malabsorptive factor). I am not even close to my starting weight,

but I'm not where I was when I conceived, and I wish I hadn't over-done

while I was pregnant. Don't let my warning scare you to death, just let

it encourage you not to go berserk.

Regarding Post- WLS weight gain. Since I got pregnant WAY early at 7 weeks

post-op, I have lost 80 lbs while pregnant. I had lost 50 lbs prior to that. In

the last 2 months I haven't gained or lost. My Ob would have liked me to gain

10-16 lbs if I could. But right now baby is looking great, and weighing

approximately 7lbs 7oz. We will find out Monday his true weight when I have my

c-section!

In responce to weight gain/loss....I am now 10 months post op. I've

lost 8 pounds since I found out I was pregnant (about 6 1/2 weeks

ago). Because I am so close to my goal weight (2 pounds to go), my

doc advised trying not to lose any more weight. As I have said in

the past I am not sure how to do that. He also asked that I try to

gain between 10-15 pounds. I'm getting to the tail end of my first

tri-mester and do have concerns about my weight and the health of

the baby. My doctor keeps on reassuring me that as long as I

continue to eat healthy the baby will be fine. So the way I see it,

as long as I eat healthy, the baby will be healthy too!
