Guest guest Posted June 10, 2004 Report Share Posted June 10, 2004 Hello, My blood pressure stayed around 160/90 until this week when I was put on 25mg atenolol (beta-blocker). Previously I had been on 6mg perindopril (ACE inhibitor), 10mg amlodipine (calcium channel blocker) and 40mg frusemide (diruetic). Since Monday, my blood pressure has been around 120-125/70 and my resting heart rate from 50 to 60 bpm. I do feel a bit spaced out and rather mellow. Sometimes I feel like all my energy has been spirited away. I'd be interested to know other people's views about a sudden major BP drop. Many people with IgAN have the opposite problem, and can't control their blood pressure well even on multiple medications. How low is low? So, maybe that's why you feel a little mellow. Now you're all set for Broadway That's a drop, but it's not really that big of a drop. Those look like pretty good numbers, actually. You might feel a little deflated or tired until your body adjusts. It might also go back up a bit. That always happened to me when I started a beta blocker in the past. I had a big BP drop the first few days, but then it settled at a higher number. As my prednisone dose drops and my b/p with it, I'm being overmedicated for my b/p. The doctor has dropped one of my b/p meds already and has lowered my lisinopril dose from 40mg a day now down to 10mg a day. He dropped it to 20mg a day and I was still running too low for me for the better part of the day. If you are getting dizzy or feeling faint you should give your doctor a call prior to your appointment, most docs will adjust b/p meds over the phone. She has blacked out a few times at work, she's a CNA, they get a call and have to jump up and run and then she'll hit the floor. She went in for an EKG 'cause she has a funky heart beat thinking that was the problem but it turned out to be her BP was bottoming out when she would stand up. Now I'm a different story. I am suffering at the other end of the scale, I'm on the Catapres-TTS3 patch and Labetalol 200mg three times a day and my BP is 170's/120's and my pulse rate is 40-50. Guest guest Posted June 11, 2004 Report Share Posted June 11, 2004 Hi, Low bp (although yours sounds normal to me) is always good. : ) However, a comment made by my neph a couple of appts ago when I was on 360 mg Tiazac (before he changed my bp meds right away) was that a resting heart rate of 55-60 (which was what I was getting on 360 mg Tiazac) seemed too low for him. It might be a good idea just to let your dr know about the low heart rate and see what he thinks. My neph didn't think it was right for me...but could be different for you. The neph wants me to visit my GP every two or three weeks until my BP reaches the ideal level (which hopefully it has now courtesy of the beta-blocker). No one cares to test me. I am 49. Still hypo - tsh .49 but free T3 below range (2.1 with 2.6 being the low end) and free T4 below range, (.78 with .7 being the lowest). I was on 2 grains and doctor only increased to 2.5. Nothing for adrenals. Showed her canary club results from a year ago and she said exercise, relax, meditate, etc etc. B12 was in range, 713. I am insulin resistent, as 90 day glucose was high. (A1C) Just over the top, So she said do South Beach. I love carbs and candy. ugh I am taking magnesium now for the blood pressure. I was hoping for myweight to go down with an increase in armour, but I guess I have to wait on that one. I am to be retested in a month. I can only hope she will increase it to 3 grains then. Yes, she did mention a pituitary problem. Unfortunately she is my 4th doctor. She has done the most testing and is the most open I have found. She is 1.5 hours away but the last one only tested totals and would not increase my armour either. Ones before that were against Armour. It is sure frustrating. I live in a rural area in central PA and there is NO ONE around that is good. What does one do for a pituitary not functioning? She was going to test for reverse T3 but did not prescribe it for next month.
