Guest guest
Hi Amy, Lucky you don't have anemia since that is just another source of fatigue- I always know when it's time for another shot as the fatigue gets worse daily. It's interesting about the physical workouts; I have been working out most of my adult life until I started on prednisone again in March after my biopsy and diagnosis. Since I lost all motor skills with prolonged hospitalization and massive steriods, I have had rehab to learn how to walk again and even know how to hold a spoon. I recently was seen by outpatient physical therapist and they gave me exercises to do with free weights. Now the PT is going to meet me at the local Y which has all the latest Cybex equipment and start me on the machines. I am really excited, since I have used these machines in the past and they made a difference. I'm meeting the PT Thursday and will let you know how it goes. Wish me luck and the strength to get through at least one session. Thanks for listening. Gloria > Gloria I've been on prednisone for nearly a year now. My serum creatinine is holding steady at 1.9-2.4 (it varies from month to month) I have always had a good hematocrit reading, so no anemia yet for me...however I have been quite fatigued since just prior to my diagnosis and even more so since starting on the prednisone. I'm finding that working out 3 times a week for about 30 minutes is helping quite a bit with my energy level. It took me forcing myself into it for the first few weeks but now I feel like I can't do without it. I didn't believe that it could boost my energy levels but now that I'm doing it I realize that " hey " it really does work. (Perhaps I'll finally drop these extra 100lbs I'm carrying around too) > > That not quite with it feeling comes from the prednisone. It really messes with your head in ways you don't notice at first but then as time goes by you realize you just can't do things the way you used to. It does get better as your dose gets reduced and from what I hear anyhow that mental function goes back to normal once off the stuff. *I know I can't wait for that day to come, though on 5mg daily it's not nearly as bad as it was on higher doses* > > Amy > IgaN and Anemia > > > Do most IgaN patients also have anemia? Guest guest
Gloria good luck with the workouts at the Y...I'm excited for you! It sounds like you have had one hell of a year. Congratulations on getting this far with the rehab, it can be rough. When I first started going to Curves my goal was to be able to make the circuit twice without having to stop. After a year of very little activity, just the occasional slow walk on the treadmill, and a weakened right side from a minor stroke I was in no shape to move on those machines. To my surprise I did make the " twice around " goal fairly quickly. My next goal was to do the squat machine without having to stop...when I accomplished that my goal became to get my right leg (the side affected by my stroke) out of hip abductor machine without having to lift it with my hands. Well this week I made that goal and now I have to come up with a new one! I told the girls there I wasn't going to set any weight loss goals since those tend to discourage me, instead I want a goal that is strength oriented...if I lose weight it the process I see that as a bonus. ) Focus on your strength, it's empowering! Good luck and I know you will do fine. Guest guest
Amy, Congratulations on making all your goals thus far. It really does not take too long to see results in terms of stamina building up, and strength building up. Keep up the great work. Guest guest
Hi Amy, It sounds like you and I have gone through similar ordeals. I can remember having to lift my leg to get it into the hospital bed - just that was an excruciating ordeal! There was some controversy also as to whether I had a slight stroke as well and my left side is still weaker than the right. I have actually been 2-1/2 years getting this far and yes, I guess I am stronger than I thought. The doctors were amazed that I survived at all. Good luck to you and let me hear about your progress.
