Why do you think she doesn't have enough milk? If she is concerned, there are many things she can do to boost her supply, like pumping with a double electric pump (she can rent one), putting the baby to the breast more frequently, etc. Please let us know why you think she doesn't have enough milk and we can help with ways to boost her supply. If she is putting the baby to the breast at least 10-12 times a day it would be very unusual for her not to have enough milk. I am concerned about your question regarding formula. You need to read the label and follow the directions exactly. It needs to be refrigerated and used up within a certain number of days -- it should say all this on the label. Also, it should have directions for mixing, diluting, or not diluting, depending on what kind you have. Please let us know more details and we can help find solutions. It would be great for him to be able to have only breastmilk. Margaret

Guest guest
they are not worried about the spoiled formula. he does not poop good. has not pooped all day and its 10 39pm. she pumped herself and only got 1 oz. out . i fed him 2 oz earlier tonight and he clearly wanted more but there was no more for my grand baby. so he sucked on a pacificer. she is taking him to a lactation person tomorrow. he is14 days old and her milk just came in a day ago. she hardly eats and says she is not hungry. i said force yourself. my son mentioned a wet nurse and the lc said oh u must worry about aids then. or if they are on drugs , etc. i was thinking that i could help them out. i could get a hormone shot from my dr. if she would give me one and see if i could produce milk. if i could would it be odd to do that for them? would ppl think i am nuts.? let me know. i dont take drugs and i dont have aids and i dont drink or smoke. but i am old would my boobs even produce milk?? how many shots would i have to take? shaa`

Guest guest
Shaa, Get her to take the baby to bed and stay there until she sees the lactation consulatant. She needs to nurse her own baby. Women who are near to starvation can maintain adequate milk supply to nurse their babies. Quit telling her she isn't eating enough and quit telling her she isn't making enough milk. Support her by saying she is a woman and women produce milk and she has plenty to feed her baby if she was getting the right information. Throw away the bottles and pacifiers and feed the baby with a spoon if you need to. http://www.lalecheleague.org has a catalog with a cup feeding system. She needs to keep nursing and nursing to build up her supply. You are sabotaging her breastfeeding by even mentioning wanting to nurse her baby. You are giving her the message that she is incapable. Give her lots of support and positive affirmations about her milk flowing well. GET RID OF THE PACIFIERS AND BOTTLES! The baby should be using her as a pacifier to bring her milk in. Go to a La Leche League Meeting. She should only pump after feedings. She needs to be nursing her baby not worrying about how much she pumped. The bottles and pacifiers and formula will ruin everything. Get rid of them! Guest guest
Shaa, She needs to just go to bed with the baby and turn down the lights and get some rest and nurse as much as possible. She is probably very stressed out and so is her baby. She needs to connect with her baby together skin to skin in bed and nurse, nurse, nurse. Why isn't she nursing him instead of giving him bottles? She needs to take him to bed or get in the bath with him and really connect to him and let him have free access to her breast. The bottles and pumping and everyone else feeding the baby will only make this baby wean very quickly. Let her feed her baby and connect and get the rhythm of nursing down. Guest guest
that is what she wants to do is just give him breast milk. well according to everything i have read (pooping 2-5 times a day) he does not do that. i dont know how many wet diapers he has. so if we go by what the LL puts out then he is not getting enough milk. and she does think she is his pacifier. she just said that last night. sometimes it takes him 4 hrs to nurse. he tends to stay up all night and sleep a good bit in the day. i could just about bet she does not nurse him 10-12 times a day. like i said when he was about a week old he slept from 1 pm to 8pm. she was on pretty strong medication. (she had her tubes tied and is still in pain).

Guest guest
Shaa, your DIl will produce milk a lot easier then you can, she just had a baby. she needs to put her baby at her breast all the time, until her milk supply is well established. she needs to pump after she nurses him. she may not get anything out, but that is ok, she is stimulating her breast to make more milk, the more the baby nurses and the more she pumps(after her baby nurses) the more milk she will produce. after about 3-4 days of constantly puting the baby at her breast, and pumping after words, she will get more and more milk out. the biggest thing is having the baby stimulate her breast. it would not be a good idea for you to nurse her baby, she is the mother, and she needs to nurse her own baby, and it will be a lot easier for her to nurse her own baby then for you to. Pumping and feeding it to him is ok occasionally (much later, once supply and his suck are established) but at 14 days he needs to be nursing at her breast at each feeding, every couple of hours all day long. Does she understand this? If she wants to breastfeed him, which it sounds like she does, then she needs to know that she has to commit to sitting down, relaxing, nursing that baby frequently. She needs to be eating healthy and drinking lots and lots of water which will help her milk production. I'm glad she'll be in contact with an LC because it sure sounds like she needs some guidance and help. I'm holding my breath hoping they make it through these troubled times.
