Guest guest
See answers below Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources 1. Is it normal to still be bleeding 2 months after your baby's born? This is not normal and she should talk to a different doctor. More likely than not it is because she is trying to do way too much. But she could have a retained placenta and that would inhibit her milk supply so she needs to be sure either way. She should get checked. 2. Could this be her period even though it's lasted 2 weeks? Probably not, probably after birth bleeding that is from some cause. 3. Would her period make the flavor of her milk change so that her daughter would be less likely to nurse or to want to nurse? That is probably not it at all. My guess is nipple confusion, being unsatisfied at the breast and general just not getting it. 4. Should she wait till she stops bleeding to try to get her daughter to nurse? Absolutely not she will lose her supply. Keep nursing and trying to nurse, get a lactation aid to use at the breast. Get a double electric pump to protect her supply, finger or cup feed and lose all bottle and nipples they are only sabotage at this point. 5. Is there any advice anyone can give me about how to get Robyn to nurse(she's always trying to push away from the breast)? Get a lactation aid so she is getting breastmilk readily at the breast without struggle. Finger feed so that she gets the hang of sucking and drawing the finger/nipple WAY back into the mouth. 6. Should I tell Angie to start expressing her milk for Robyn and bottlefeeding it to her? No bottlefeeding!!!! cup or finger feed. See my website re: finger feeding. Double electric pump to protect supply 7. Or should I tell her to quit with the bottles and just keep trying the breast until Robyn gets used to it? Quit bottles just cup feeding and keep at the breast with a lactation aid if possible. If she gets latched on use breast compression (my website under resources and jack newman articles) to get more milk to the baby quicker. I think that's it for now, but if I think of any more questions, I'll be sure to ask! Call La Leche League and get a leader to help. If you tell me where you are I will find one. Get mom and baby in a very clean bath and let baby start in the water and climb up moms belly to latch on by herself. Babies do very well this way! Keep up the good work! Guest guest
Shaa, NO baby vitamins for an exclusively breastfed baby. To tell if your grandbaby is getting enough count diapers. There should be at least 6 wet diapers and at least 4 poopy diapers everyday. If this is happening and the baby is gaining then everything is just fine. She only produces two ounces for a pump. A baby works a lot differently. They are much more efficient at getting milk. She needs to call a Lactation Consultant with these initials IBCLC or a La Leche League Leader to get some good help with getting the baby latched. It is important that the latch be good and that the baby doesn't receive any pacifiers or bottles which will just confuse the baby at the breast. The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is a great book to have and read. As a grandmother you could get a lot out of this book to help your daughter. You must be such a great and loving grandmother to want to help with breastfeeding. It is the best thing your daughter can give to her baby. Keep up the good work and get some really good qualified help and some good resources. Guest guest
Pumping is not essential to the breastfeeding process. It is crucial to get good support and let the baby have unlimited access to the breast. http://www.lactivist.com/nursein.htm Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Re: Please help. also i dont think the period would change the taste of milk because they bleed after they have them and that is when they start nursing in the first place. i think that must be false info. she should pump herself every few hrs. something my son's girlfriend does not do. i hear it makes more milk. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Up to 60% OFF food! Or just plain stirs around. Breastfed babies should not go any longer than 2-3 hours during the day and 5 hours at night (newborns) when they get older they can go a little longer. Breastfed babies need to be fed at least 8-12 times per day and some even more ( mine did ) : ) I am glad you are here to get information to help out your DIL She needs lots of support right now. Yes, if the baby cries, he should be offered to nurse/breastfeed. Crying is a LATE indicator of hunger in a newborn. Crying is a baby's only form of communication, and since babies are expected to double their birthweight by 6 months, and triple it by a year, they're going to be hungry, and needs lots to grow on! Offering to nurse when the baby cries is a way to continue building the breastmilk supply. By learning the baby's hunger cues, like rooting, searching for something to suck on, putting the fists in the mouth, becoming active, etc, are early indicators of hunger. Babies need lots to eat, and breastmilk does it best since it gives babies *something* everytime they suck. Pacifiers don't and can interfere with a breastfed baby's growth cycles. Bottles of formula can cause babies to become too full, and miss important breastmilk feedings. Cereal can cause babies' intestines to become sluggish as it works hard to move all that thick substance through a body that's accustomed to easy-to-digest meals. 4 poopy diapers in 24 hours is a GUIDELINE. Not every baby will be textbook and have 4 every single day. Some babies will have more, smaller bowel movements, and others will hold out for a few times a week. Another GUIDELINE I've heard is that a baby will poop a " mother-sized palmful " every 24 hours... Some babies that have one poopy diaper every 24 hours have enough poop to not worry about more... others poop just a little at a time, but in the end, it's enough. Guest guest
Thanks so much. I am going to print these answers all out and give them to her. She wants Robyn to breastfeed so bad. We live in Houston, Tx, BTW, and I would love to know how to get in touch with LLL here, not just for her, but me too, soon! Krista RE: Please help.See answers belowWendihttp://www.lactivist.combreastfeeding info & resources1. Is it normal to still be bleeding 2 months after your baby's born? Thisis not normal and she should talk to a different doctor. More likely thannot it is because she is trying to do way too much. But she could have aretained placenta and that would inhibit her milk supply so she needs to besure either way. She should get checked.2. Could this be her period even though it's lasted 2 weeks? Probably not, probably after birth bleeding that is from some cause.3. Would her period make the flavor of her milk change so that her daughterwould be less likely to nurse or to want to nurse? That is probably not itat all. My guess is nipple confusion, being unsatisfied at the breast andgeneral just not getting it.4. Should she wait till she stops bleeding to try to get her daughter tonurse? Absolutely not she will lose her supply. Keep nursing and trying tonurse, get a lactation aid to use at the breast. Get a double electric pumpto protect her supply, finger or cup feed and lose all bottle and nipplesthey are only sabotage at this point.5. Is there any advice anyone can give me about how to get Robyn tonurse(she's always trying to push away from the breast)? Get a lactationaid so she is getting breastmilk readily at the breast without struggle.Finger feed so that she gets the hang of sucking and drawing thefinger/nipple WAY back into the mouth.6. Get a lactationaid so she is getting breastmilk readily at the breast without struggle.Finger feed so that she gets the hang of sucking and drawing thefinger/nipple WAY back into the mouth.6. Should I tell Angie to start expressing her milk for Robyn andbottlefeeding it to her? No bottlefeeding!!!! cup or finger feed. See mywebsite re: finger feeding. Double electric pump to protect supply7. Or should I tell her to quit with the bottles and just keep trying thebreast until Robyn gets used to it? Quit bottles just cup feeding and keepat the breast with a lactation aid if possible. If she gets latched on usebreast compression (my website under resources and jack newman articles) toget more milk to the baby quicker.I think that's it for now, but if I think of any more questions, I'll besure to ask! :)Call La Leche League and get a leader to help. If you tell me where you areI will find one. Get mom and baby in a very clean bath and let baby startin the water and climb up moms belly to latch on by herself. Babies do verywell this way! Keep up the good work!WendiKrista________________________________________________________________________Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com------------------------------------------------------------------------Remember four years of good friends, bad clothes, explosive chemistryexperiments.http://click./1/4051/0/_/410002/_/958155935/------------------------------------------------------------------------Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed!http://www.lactivist.com Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed!http://www.lactivist.com
Guest guest
Crying is a late sign of hunger. If he is smacking his lips or sucking his hand, put him to the breast. He should be eating at least 8-12 times per day.
