, I don't have RP (I lurk to irritate ) but I do have multiple autoimmune diseases and I take methotrexate, .4 cc every Friday by IM injection. Side effects are that it makes me sick as a dog but we increased my folic acid to 2 mg a day (from 1 mg although my doc swears there is no scientific evidence that an increase helps LOL) and I haven't been sick in 2 weeks now.

One note about ambien: after I had been taking it for 8 months and a neurologist was checking me due to short term memory loss, I discovered that it is only meant for short-term use no more than 5-6 weeks max. Please check with your doctor on his views about this (all docs vary) and see if he is aware of any side effects from this. I loved it though. Nothing else worked and within 30 minutes of taking it, I was snoozing like a baby! No lingering after-effects the next day either.

MethotrexateFrom: RCColloran@... From CGood morning to all. I would like to know what strength and dosage of meth you are on, if you take tabs or injections, do you split the dose every 12 hours or take it all at once? My dr is adjusting my dosage and I was just curious how some of you took it and what side effects if any you experienced. The thrush is getting better, but now I have a real sore throat and my inner ears are hurting and have pressure. P I know you said you had ear problems. I don't know if this is a cold or a flare. I know throat problems should not be ignored, but I don't want to make this bigger than it is. The dr is decreasing my xanax (for sleep) and put me on Ambian. I haven't slept in two days and my body feels like its been run over by a truck. Looks like it too lol. Thank for any info you can give me. I feel like I've found a second family since I've found this group. Thanks for just listening. Much Love and hugs

To Christy,

Thanks for the info. I'm taking 15mg meth per week. Today I started

splitting the dose to 3 am and 3 pm. I'm sick as a dog today (yes, I have a

dog)lol feel like joining her in her bed. The ambien hasn't worked at all

yet. Would love to get some sleep. I've had short term memory loss for many

years so guess I wouldn't know if I am being affected now lol. Wouldn't

remember. How much are or were you taking and is there another drug that

might work? Thanks for all your help. What exactly is the disease you have?

hi all, i have a quick question for the group regarding methotrexate.....my

mom is on methotrexate for her rhuemetoid arthritis and she feels it isnt

doing the trick any longer, she is on only 5mg a week (taken at 2.5 mg a day,

that she takes twice weekly) i am just curious what the highest dosage is

that you can take orally so i can tell my mom so she can tell her dr. (yup,

she has one of those doctors that she has to tell what she needs (actually

beg) any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks again. :)

, I'm on 15mg weekly of meth. I had to work up form 7 1/2 to 15mg,

increasing one pill each week. It took me a lot longer because I had side

effects. This is only my second week at 15mg. Today I split the dose and

took 3 am and will take 3 pm.

got sick today. Hope this helps.

Do you take folic acid?

I have rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, fibromyalgia and anything else they can tag me with but I won't let 'em tell me anymore LOL

I have no idea what the highest dose is but I started on the shots even at the lower dose because I was so sick while taking some other meds. We just skipped that phase. :) I know at a certain stage, the side effects are worse and you should go to injections rather than pills but I'm afraisd I can't tell you how much that is.

I currently take 25mg of methotrexate once a week. His(my doctor) cut off

point is 30. He is considering splitting the dose or putting me on

injections.

Seems to be a number of options.

I have fibro also.....another alternative to the pred would be a tricyclic antidepressant...they are using this form of medication a lot now for fibro a drug called elavil if often prescribed, and they are having great response from it. Personally I cannot take tricyclics b/c they cause me to get headaches...so I do yoga, stretches, meditation, and when it gets truly horrible take vicodin. Massages on the Fibro "points" work also. Do you have all of the points?....if so, which ones are the worst for you, maybe I can give you some stretching ideas to ease some of your pain.

Thanks for your advice about the methotrexate. The doctor was

planning on treating the sarc with it as well even before he

diagnosed the fibro. He had mentioned it a couple of months ago. He

says most people take it on Friday, but the weekend is the time with

my family and I don't want to feel worse then. Since Im not working

I thought I would take it on Mondays. The beginning of the week is

the most quiet for me. I appreciate your help and kind words and I

missed you while you were out of commission with your computer.

Your compassionate ways always lit up the board. Luv, Debbie

> Hi Debbie,

> I started out with 10mg a week then it got raised to 15mg a week.

With me i just chose a day and started taking it on that day every

week. I was taking mine on wednesday but it tires me out so much and

i have church on wednesday night i take it on thursdays now then i

have thurs friday and saturday to recuperate before church on sunday

cause it does make me feel more tired than usual but overall i feel

like its helping the sarc in some ways tho too so i don't know you

have to find what works for you.

> I myself refused the pred when my pancreatitis was flaring up so i

got the methotrexate and morphine cause all the other pain meds

weren't working and i had just been in the hospital.

> Give it a try it takes a while tho you won't feel anything for a

while.

Hi -

Thanks for your advice on the Methotrexate. I was wondering if

it did make a difference taking it at night or in the morning. As I

said previously to Jan, I don't want to ruin my family time either.

Thanks again. Luv, Debbie

Hi Elodia -

I was wondering about that as well - taking it at night....

I wondered how long the nausea would last, but I suppose it's

different for every person. I will have to experiment. Thanks a

lot, Luv, Debbie T.

I think I may have talked to you before about Methotrexate.

(Little brain jolt!!) I can't believe how much support I have

received on this subject! You are all the greatest friends! I don't

know what I would do without this group. I would be totally alone.

I have a feeling it's going to make me nauseous/or the big " D "

because I've always had problems with meds and my stomach. So again

its been helpful to hear from different people on when and how they

take it, along with their reactions. Like I said previously, I

think I'm going to take it at the beginning of the week as well.

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. Luv, Debbie T.
