Hello, , and welcome to the group!

I know you will get lots of opinions about how long

to wait to conceive after surgery. I think the most

important person to ask is your doctor.

I had WLS with the intent of getting pregnant as soon

as it was safe to do so. My PCOS was the main reason I

had surgery. My doctor gave the the " OK " to start

trying for a baby after I was only 6 months post-op.

My improved health, and weight-loss success was enough

for him to let me try earlier than the usual 1-2 years

that everyone says to wait.

Maybe your own situation will allow your doctor to

give you the early " green light " as well.

Everyone's body adapts to WLS differently. You may

be pleasantly surprised, like I was.

- find a doctor that you trust, and listen to him/her!

Best wishes to you and your hubby!

Hi ,

Sounds like you have big plans in your future! I only waited five months

after WLS, not by choice, it just happened! I have lost 60 pounds and I

think my fertility just went through the roof, because I honest don't think

I could conceive 60 pounds ago. Anyway, I am almost 7 weeks along and had a

vaginal ultrasound yesterday and baby looks great! That's just my story. I

am sure it is best to wait for 12 mos after surgery, but life doesn't always

work the way it " should " !

My doctor suggest to wait a year, but u never know how long it will take you

to conceive...I would go ahead and try it...U have lost 100 pounds so that is

good, and it might be easier for you to get pregant. I wish you luck

I had my surgery also in August 2000. I started at 260 and I was down to 185

when I unexpectedly got pregnant (I was faithfully taking birth control

pills). I think it is best to wait at least one year so that you can achieve

your goal weight and let your body totally recover. However, if it happens

to occur sooner, I know that a lot of people have had successful pregnancies.

Hey ,

My name is Jen. I have my surgery last august also.

I have lost 125 lbs and I am down to 175. My husband

and I have been trying to conceive for the last 3

months. My doctor told me to wait for at least a

year, but at this rate it will be at least a year

before we do get pregnant. As far as I have read on

this message board, everyone seems to be doing fine no

matter how early they got pregnant. I tell you what,

I am obsessed with the whole baby idea, I think my

husband thinks I am going crazy. Let me know what you

have decided, and if you do start trying, let me know

how things are going. It's nice to talk to someone in

the same boat. What kind of surgery did you have?

I'm answering my own post, because noone on this list felt it deserved an

answer. Yet, I see that there are plenty of you out there, and other people

have received responses, so I am left wondering why no support was offered to

me. Oh well...there are plenty of supportive people and lists out there -

I'll go find one.

umm, this isn't a super busy list, generally. and i don't think a few

hours is enough time to decide you are being ignored--on any list! i

don't post a lot but i read at least a couple of times a week and

from what i have seen this list is VERY supportive, and it is not one

of those that is just for the " in group. " people are busy and it is

true that a post can get overlooked, but i am sure that it was not

intentional. however, to offer a little unsolicited advice, i think

you will have a more enjoyable time as a part of any list if you

aren't quite so touchy...although that is one of the drawbacks to

being on a conception or pregnancy list--there are a lot of people

anyway, welcome and good luck in your efforts. as you can see, there

are many women who have had normal, healthy pregnancies after wls. i

hope to be one of them very soon!

sorry, i mixed you up with another similarly-named post that came up

a little while ago. i missed your original post entirely. sounds like

this list may not be as active as you are seeking...too bad because

this is probably the best source of information on this topic

available. i hope you are able to meet those needs elsewhere. good

luck in whatever you choose.

Hi there! Maybe if you post your question again, then you may get an answer. I

can't remember what your post was, but when I first posted last week, I did not

get and answer and then I posted it again and got plenty of answers. Sometimes

the posts don't make it for some reason or another. Please don't be upset. This

post you sound sarcastic. If you are unpleased with this group, then maybe it's

just not the group for you. Just a suggestion.

Well, good Lord, . I just tried to research your initial post,

and all I found was a post in reference to another post, where you

vaguely mentioned you were new. If that's not what you're referring

to, please re-send your original post to me.

I don't think it's fair for you to label the group as non-supportive

base on that post and the lack of response to it. Now me personally,

I've been lurking and pretty inactive on this list for over a year

now. It's always seemed to be a very good and supportive list. In

fact, one of the best, and least, non-confrontational wls lists.

I just changed my settings today, so that I would receive the

individual e-mails from this group. As I've said in an earlier post,

I'm just now planning on becoming more active. Now, from what little

I did read, you're more experienced(in pregnancy) in this matter than

I am, however, if I can lend some support, I'll be happy to. In

fact, I don't believe any member of this list has a problem with

being supportive.

You know, I sent out a post a few weeks ago with no response, but

being an adult and realizing other people have busy lives, I took no

offense. Hope you have better luck with other lists.

Mine started at 46...did PT and played tennis for 5 more years...had a resurf

this past Monday at 53 years of age...Dr. Gross said it was shot but plenty of

good bone for a resurf. Think about PT and waiting...orthopedics is in a

revolution and even a 3 year wait will yield a newer technique worth waiting

for!

Hi and welcome! You sound like I did!! I was sick all throughout the

day (nausea, but not much vomitting), I've lost 8lbs since becoming pg, I

sleep like crap, and even though I'm more hungry I have tobe VERY careful -

dumping is EVIL when your pg. I'm 15.5 weeks now and I do feel much better.

The m/s has dimished to only a few minutes per day.

Hang in there!!

For what it's worth, virtually everybody on this group has gone through what

your boyfriend is experiencing. We all developed a problem with our hip(s),

we all were told we would need a THR, we all hated the idea and looked for

other options. We learned about resurfacing and we have either had it done

or are waiting to have it done. And most importantly, everyone of us is

glad we did it. I'm willing to bet that there isn't one person that would

opt for a THR if they had the option to go back and do it over. If you

follow this group for any length of time, it is obvious that most of the

individuals are intelligent people that have done a lot of research into

their options, and choosing resurfacing was a no brainer.

You NEED to get an x-ray done and get it to a Doctor that does RESURFACING.

I'm partial to Dr Mont in Baltimore, but if you go back and read previous

postings, I don't think you could make a bad choice. During the time I've

part of this group, I have yet to see anything but praise for all the

Doctors doing this procedure.

Good luck, and hopefully your boyfriend is a candidate for this procedure.

There are two things that come to my mind immediately after reading

your post. The first is that I would not place much trust in most

orthopods who are not familiar with resurfacing. The fact is that

most know very little about it or have outdated information, and

since they don't do it they would rather guide you toward a THR. The

second thing is that with your boyfriend being only 32 years old, a

THR is probably not a very good idea since they have a limited life

span and one or more revisions will likely be needed. There are

other significant advantages to resurfacing vs. THR.

You will read many posts here about people (including me) who have

been resurfaced and are delighted with the results. Gather as much

information as you can.
