,

My dh and I have always kind-of privately felt that, for us, we needed to let

God

decide when and if to give us children. Some of our family members freaked out

when

we were first married, warning us that we'd have ten kids. We just shrugged and

said,

" Hey... the Bible says that children are a reward from the Lord. Why would we

want to

miss a reward? "

And God hasn't " overburdened " us with " too many children " , either... we only

have

three, and we'd love to have more, but I'm getting older, so we may not. If we

do, they

will be welcome. I'd adopt a sibling group if I had more room in my house; I

personally

think we could fit three or four more kids in here, but social workers don't

approve of

stacking them up too deep or anything. LOL

BTW, there's a quote from (I think) Mother that I like: " Too many

children?

That's like saying there are too many flowers. "

Others won't have the same opinion, obviously, and that's okay. It's just what

has

worked for Rick and

My step-daughters are 17 months apart. I became full-time Mom on 's 2nd

Hi

I'm in Canberra (not so far away) and yesterday I went to my 6wk post-op

appointment with Dr (He was brilliant). I barely stood up the

day after surgery, though the drugs made me return to my bed pretty

quickly. I was walking with a frame 3-4 days after then on to crutches on

the 5th day. I went home on the 7th day and as I have mentioned in my

previous post went back to work on my 6 wk anniversary!

My advice to you is if you are going home 24 hours post-op make sure you

have plenty of help and support around you. It is a big operation and takes

a lot out of you. It's not so easy to get around after they butcher all the

muscles in the side of you leg!

Take care and I hope all goes well

Kindest regards

Natasha

hi my name is david and i live in Sydney Australia.I am due to have a

resurface on my right hip on the 14.march i am in a lot of pain and

find it very difficult to walk and very nervous about the op. I find

all of your advice and possitive attitudes very helpful. My surgeon

tells me i will be walking 4 hours after surgery with pain

releif, home on crutches 24 hours after surgery and back to work 4 to

6 weeks after surgery. What do you think? He tells me he has performed

150 of these ops in the past 4

years

Okay, I'll post.

Is anyone else exhausted and cranky? I am at 15 weeks and tired of being

tired!

And I am having a panic attack over gaining 2 pounds in the past month.

How's everyone else doing?

Hugs,

Thanks Zephyr! I was late into work yesterday (dentist appt. { Look Ma, no

cavities!}) and with it being near the end of the month, I have tons of work

that I should be doing (LOL!).

About the fries, I just buy the frozen crinkle cut fries and bake according to

directions with a little seasoned salt. 3 points per serving. Be careful about

the brand you get as some have added fat and therefore more points. I get the

store brand where I shop as they only have 1 gram of fat and Ore Ida has 6

grams!

Had a wonderful weekend and managed to stay OP (except for the chili dog I had

at the bingo benefit Saturday). But I'll make up for it as the weather here is

beautiful and DH and I have Spring Fever and have started our outdoor work

(landscaping, gardening, etc.)

Hope everybody has a great Tuesday!

I'm 21 weeks and still very cranky, but yet I seem to have more

energy. It's hard being pregnant, I also have a 15 month old, a full

My two cents of advise - get another opinion!

I'm 52, was fairly active and was told 11 years ago that I needed a thr. I did

the research, tried everything under the sun (Synvisc shots, pulsation magnetic

therapy, etc.) to stop the pain, nothing worked.

I had a bhr on June 12th. by Dr. De Smet in Belgium. At one week I was driving,

at 12 days I returned to work ½ days, at 2 weeks I returned to work full time

and started walking on one crutch. I continue to feel better and better each

day. I'd look at the alternatives before I'd have a thr.

Good Luck,

Doug

Hi Colton

For what it costs it would be better you saw a Resurfacing specialist

now whilst its not too late to change your mind. You will then be able to live

knowing the decision you make will be based on all the facts. Don't be put off

by surgeons telling you hip replacement is the best - It is a good thing but

limits your activities to an extent. Most people on this site will tell you

Metal on Metal Resurfacing is the way to go if you can. There's loads of sites

depending on basically where you live. As a generalisation the USA and Canada

use the Conserve +, Rest of the World use BHR while both also use the Cormet

2000. They are similar but not the same. Firstly try the file section of this

site on

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/surfacehippy/files/

Then write another e-mail to this site saying where your from.

Best Wishes

Almost everyone on this site is biased towards BHR. We have all been through the

pros and cons of Thr and Bhr and certainly in my mind, I have absolutely no

doubts or any regrets that I had a BHR.

The advantages are so much greater but you must not accept our word for it. Look

through the old messages on this site and carry out your own research and draw

your own conclusion.

All the best. Joe R

Point of clarification re Joe's comments below.

" BHR " is a specific resurfacing prosthesis and I do not believe that

any bias or consensus has emerged here for the BHR as compared with

the others (the Conserve+ or the Cormet 2000).

However, the consensus is definitely for metal / metal resurfacing

rather than THR if your condition permits.
