Hi !

I came across a Parent Support Group in Loudoun County. It's run by

Pam Escobar and the next meeting is April 8th - I plan to attend. We

had a nice conversation yesterday about the group and what they do at

the meetings. It's sounds like a really great resource (the group has

been meeting for 11 years or so)

Let me know if you would like the info - or heck - we can start our

own social group. I'm about to try anything at this point!

Welcome !

Take a look at the Files section for this group. It's very informative. There

are quite alot of us chelating using the Cutler protocol so feel free to ask

questions.

Hi,

My name is and I guess the newest memeber here.I have 6

children and one son, my 6 year old runs the gamut of asd and my 5 year

Both had extremely high levels of lead and mercury and we are in the

process of chelating now.Our doctor has been using the DAN! protocol

but I am more interested in the Cutler protocol that some of you

practice.

The thing I notice and this is why I want to switch over is that every

time we do a round of chelation my 6 year old is at the top of his game.

Usually I get a litany of complaints about his attention and behavior

from the school, but on the days of and the first couple of days

following chelation he is a different kid.

He is so much better after we get some metals out of him that the

change is startling, but after a few days he regresses back to his old

behaviors. So I am thinking that a longer and slower approach would be

more beneficial.

Any thoughts on this or advice would be welcome.

I hope to be able to learn from and contribute to this group.

Warmly,

which thyroid medication are you on?

hypothyroidism

Subject: New Here

I joined this group hoping to get information about hypothyroidism. My

biggest problems are lack of concentration, " foggy brain " ,

forgetfulness, low energy levels, tiredness. I am an " otherwise "

healthy, professional woman. I take care of myself physically. I did

gain twenty pounds over the past five years and within the last three

months have forced myself to do something about the weight gain and

have lost ten pounds. I just don't feel as sharp and alert as I used

to be. Is this all related to the thyroid problem? I have been taking

Levoxyl for five years at 100m. Because of my last lab work my doctor

increased my dose to 125m a month ago. I feel no difference at all.

Thanks for any input.

I assume you mean 100 mcg and 125 mcg. Some people need as much as 200

mcg. Are you taking it properly, one hour before and two hours after

food and four hours away from vitamins and supplements that might have

calcium or iron in them? Please share specific lab results. Otherwise we

are just guessing what is wrong.

my ND, based on a few tests, finds NO candida! I'm still worried that the test have gotten mixed up as it seemed impossible I don't have it.

From what I've heard from Dr. Natasha -McBride as well as others

on various lists, that there is no true test for candida. I'm not sure if that

means there are false-positivies or false-negatives, but I do remember her

saying that the way she diagnoses it is simply from symptoms.

The Candida test my ND gave me was from Genova Labs (smokie labs). . .does this mean the results aren't accurate if there isn't any true candida test? From what I had read, that lab is one of the most reliable ones, but I was lead to believe, just from reading online that if a woman has a chronic yeast infection, it begins in the gut rather than the other, so this is why I wasn't sure about the test results.

I do have a full bottle of Nystatin pure powder and am not sure if I should be taking it a few times a day. It's horrid tasting and I've almost thrown up when taking it! Also, I wonder about it killing off the probiotics I'm taking.

My understanding is the stool test tries to culture the yeast. If it

grows, you know there was yeast. But sometimes it doesn't grow for

other reasons. In the autism community some doctors are finding that

the yeast is creating a biofilm that may inhibit positive stool

tests. I'm not sure what the science is behind this though.

My sons stool tests came up negative, but his Organic Acid Test (OAT)

showed results high in acids produced by yeast. Also, if there are

low numbers of the healthy microflora, it doesn't matter what your

yeast is, you need probiotics. I would focus on these either way and

not focus as much on the antifungals.

Hi Caren,

I'm a 65 year old Female I had my left knee replaced a week ago

Friday. I'm home now and using a cane, The pain in my left knee

and leg is nothing compared to the pain I had before the surgery, I

have been bowling and playing golf for about 50 years so I guess I

just wore it out! The Dr. sent me home with a Machine that moved my

knee back and fourth for 3 hrs. 3 times a day. which really helped

me start moving it then when I sat in a chair I was to try to touch

the back of my calf to the chair. I'm hopping to be able to start

driving by Friday which is the day I see the Dr. first time after

surgery. I sure hope you can start to get rid of some of the pain

you are having. If you have any questions please let me know I would

love to try to help if I can.

Tara,

Please read the book, The Late Talker. Also make sure you get this child

into Speech Therapy. At this rate they should qualify for government

services. Then try the fish oil, pleaese check the files.

It is great you are catching this now. Dont turn away and ignore it. I am so

greatful I did. There is so much info and support ont his site.

We are here to help.

Hello Everyone:

I'm glad I found this forum. I have a 17-month old son who is

not talking. He can say momma (rarely) and often dada. He once

or twice said 'ball.' that's it. He doesn't wave or say bye-bye. He

does grunt a lot and make sounds to try and get what he wants.

He has been pointing when he wants something. He makes eye contact

and we did the M-Chat (autism checklist) and he doesn't really seem

to fit criteria for that. He was a late walker, 15 months, and I'm

wondering if he's just a late talker, or if it might be something more

serious. Any suggestions on what more I should be looking for? The

pediatrician has said that he should have 10 words by 18 months, but

my gut tells me that there should be a bit more going on by now.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Joi,

You definetly need an MRI of your low back. When all my pain first

started almost all the pain was in my hips & buttocks; but the pain

was coming from a herinated disc in my back that did not show up good

on x0ray but very well on the MRI. Is your Dr sensitive to your pain?

Have you tried any pain meds and did they help? I definetly would not

be able to get through my days without pain meds. Your bed didn't

cause your pain but could contribute to it if it doesn't support your

body. I sleep on my side with a long pillow between my knees and legs

and that's supposed to help keep the spine in a neutral position. It

is more comfortable for me too. I wish you the best of luck and

really think once you get an MRI of your lumbar spine that you will

know what is causing your pain. Take care!

I'll try to get a doctor here to order an MRI. It'll probably be near

impossible. I've never been offered anything close to an MRI. So far, none

of the doctors I've gone to offer anything for pain. Nothing at all. I

really think that none of them think I'm really in pain. I do have leftover

Percocet from my bilateral knee surgery last June and I was hurting so baldy

last night that I took one. It didn't help much at all. All it did was knock

me out for 90 minutes and I woke up in severe pain. So bad, I couldn't move

very well. I tried the pillow and it didn't help as I prefer to sleep on my

side and it's the hip I'm laying on that hurts and wakes me up after about

an hour. I also have severe pain in my upper back/neck area. It's so bad I

get migraine type or tension type headaches. I do have medication for that,

but it never does anything for the back pain. I don't know is this was a

mistake, but yesterday I went walking with my neighbor. She said to let her

know when I needed to stop. I did...my heart and lungs could have gone much

faster and longer than my knees, hips, and back would allow. I barely made

it back to my car. I've cried much of today.

Re: new here

Take care!

Hi Debbie, I'll try and get the MRI. The doc that thought that should be

done is a hip, knee, and shoulder doc so he'd probably refer me on to yet

another doc.

Our bed is a pillow top style that cannot be flipped, just rotated. It's a

crappy bed for sure. Never again will we get a pillow top. It's so bad it

visibly sags several inches (or more) in the center where we lay. I

definitely want to look in to a Tempurpedic mattress. I can't sleep on my

back very well at all. I've never been a back sleeper. I'll try the

stretching.

Thanks.

Re: new here

Hi Joi, It's Debbie, I also have lower back problems, mine comes from

the L5 & S1, however it sounds a lot like what you are experiencing.

My back is sore most of the time, sometimes worse than that, but

where the nerves and pain radiate to is so much more severe feeling,

mine goes into the butt and hips, and down both of my legs and into

my feet...and come to think of it my joints - such as my knees get

aggrivated too. I know that your knee problems have gone on for quite

some time. I wanted to show you what a lower back, lumbar - sciatic,

can do. You must get a lumbar MRI...see if your doctor that suggested

this to you will still send you for one, if not (don't know what type

of doc he is) but maybe he can send you to a specialist (referral)

and start working on that. My pain I have found has gotten worse with

time, that is common I believe but not always. I feel with much

certainly that what you are describing could be coming from your

spine.

As far as your bed goes, I don't know what kind you have but if you

have only a regular type of mattress then you might want to look into

getting a mattress topper (pad), an orthopedic type - memory foam...I

have a tempurpedic mattress and it is the best thing that I have

done. I thought the one I had was good...but it made a big

difference. Also, may I suggest one of those wedges specially made to

fit under your legs as you sleep, or to take the pressure off when

you are relaxing. It helps to keep everything in alignment.

Also, I believe it may have been or that recently posted

a way of doing this at home by laying on the floor with your legs up

onto the couch, this helps to stretch out the lower spine and take

some of the pressure away. Hope some of this helps you!

Feel better! And work on that MRI (lumbar).

Dear Joi,

I have had numerous surgeries, cervical, back, shoulder, and both knees

replaced, and still have pain in the knee that was replaced a couple years ago.

My PM dr. said I have tendonitis. I have been keeping a pillow between my knees

for years, but still have pain that wakes me up every nite, and am on an opiate.

I was told also to not buy a bed with a pillow top mattress, they are finding

out more and more that it's not good for backs. My mattress cannot be flipped,

only turned, it cost us a pretty penny, so we're knind of stuck, my husband is

overweight, and his side definitely slopes down, even though we turn it around

frequently-so that isn't helping my back problems. Am very ticked off, I found a

site from an Oprah magazine regarding joint makers and orthopedic surgeons

accepting bribes on using a particular implant, found my knee and shoulder

ortho. drs were listing as have taken so called " consulting fees " , including

cash, trips, and gifts. That

really makes me wonder if they used the wrong type of replacement for the knee

that I'm still having problems with. Be sure to get second opinions on any sort

of knee or hip implant done if it's needed, I couldn't tell from your letter if

you've had any of that done. I've been told that my back pain can travel down to

my knees, but I had a separate mri done for my knees, as well as a total body

mri. I also use lidocaine patches for my back and knee pain, and that helps

some. I don't know if I've been able to help you any, but there are lots of

people in this group who are very knowledgeable, so hopefully somebody can give

you some helpful advice. Take care of yourself, and I hope you can find some

help soon.

Sincerely

Jeannie
