Guest guest
I don´t know about Folgard (never heard of it, I´m from Sweden ;-), but it should say if its folic acid or folinic acid. The reason why our kids might do better on the folinic acid has to do with the methylationprocess, it they have problem with that (as they often do) they probably need folinic acid... Guest guest
Toni, If there is one thing I have learned about " Doctors " -- and some are good. Basically NONE of them really understand the nutrition or vitamins. Ask about a drug -- they are on their game, but most (except our DAN's and not all of them are great at it). My sister in law had her gall bladder removed. She immediately put on weight and has a difficult time with bloating, weight gain, and a whole host of digestive problems. When I pointed out to her that she should be taking digestive enzymes, and eat a low fat (and only good fats) diet -- she looked at me like I had three heads. I went on to explain that the gall bladder is where bile is stored, and bile is what breaks down food. So, if she is getting a " drip " of bile, vs a full on squirt, suffice it to say that she needs help breaking down " food " as a result to get maximum nutrition. I said " didn't your doctor tell you that? " -- she said " no. " Next visit, she asks her doctor what the gall bladder does (and he explained it very well) -- and she said, " well, why didn't you tell me to change my diet " -- and went on to repeat what I told her. He said, I didn't think of it, because you don't prescribe digestive enzymes...uh, hello! But he said, you got really good advice. You should do that. Doctors treat symptoms, they tend not to treat the " whole " person. Besides, if they " fix " you -- where will the next co-pay come from? laura > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> From: Viveca Ewards <aceviveyahoo (DOT) com <acevive@>> > > > > > >> Subject: Re: Folic Acid or Folinic Acid > > > >> To: mb12 valtrex@ yahoogroups. com <mb12 valtrex <mb12 valtrex%40yahoogroups.com> > > > > > > > > >> Date: Wednesday, April 14, 2010, 12:14 PM > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> Hi! > > > >> > > > >> I´ve learned that folic acid turns into folinic acid (it´s the active > > > >> form) in the body IF the body is capable to do so. Guest guest
I'm breaking up with my kids pediatrician. I have had just about enough. Last time I went in, we were discussing whether or not I wanted to give my four year his last round of shots. We were discussing, (I believe) the chicken pox vaccine - he was telling me that at first "they" (who is "they", by the way? The CDC?) first "recommended" every child receive the vaccine once. They've recently, however, changed their minds and are now "recommending" two. So everyone's busy playing "catch-up". So I argued to him that what will happend when they decide it should be three times? and then four? when will he, in his own opinion, think enough is enough? his answer to this? "Well, let's just hope they don't". Yep. "In any case, if you want him him to start kindergarten in September, he has to receive them" Ok, first of all, no he does not. And secondly, he's being homeschooled. Jerk! Yes, I'm breaking up with the school dept., too!! Guest guest
We all have the MTHFR mutation too (and I was taking folic thru 3 pregnancies, who knew the difference back then?). We use vrp.com's Active Folate - 800mcg per capsule and they are tiny caps. They also have a bit of calcium folinate in their Klaire B-complex. A lot of standard B-complex vitamins just use folic acid... Guest guest
60% of the population have the MTHFR mutation (we have it here, too.)There are four different forms of Folinic Acid: plain folic acid, folinic acid, FolaPro (from Metagenics), and leucovorin (prescription folinic acid.)Each type works slightly differently in methylation metabolism. Some cause hyperactivity, so if your child gets hyper on one type, try another. The dosing is the same.Best, To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Fri, April 16, 2010 7:29:56 AMSubject: Re: Folic Acid or Folinic Acid We all have the MTHFR mutation too (and I was taking folic thru 3 pregnancies, who knew the difference back then?).
Guest guest
,I am also interested in your percentage. I am not doubting it :-) but I once told someone 40% and then went looking for something to back me up (as this number was quoted from my fertility doctor) and the best I could find was 20%. Then I started to wonder if the 40% was " 40% of infertility patients " and not " 40% of world population " ... 60% is the highest I have heard, and perhaps it is " 60% of people with autism " but honestly, I don't know and would love some research to refer to in order to help support this. It's important to me because already, just at the tip of biomedical treatment, I am getting friends who think I've gone off the deep end because I think autism can be treated :-( I don't really care what they as just people think, I care because these people have children with autism too and I want to help THEM. So any persuasion in the form of respected info is awesome! :-) Is that 60% one one gene only, what about on two genes? Guest guest
,It's in general, one gene, two gene, etc., we only have the mutation on one gene here. Then I started to wonder if the 40% was "40% of infertility patients" and not "40% of world population"... 60% is the highest I have heard, and perhaps it is "60% of people with autism" but honestly, I don't know and would love some research to refer to in order to help support this. :-) On Mon, Apr 19, 2010 at 12:44 PM, Kulp <thorenstd124> wrote: Is that 60% one one gene only, what about on two genes? Guest guest
,It's in general, one gene, two gene, etc., we only have the mutation on one gene here. But, yes, in general, 60 percent of the population has it on either one or two genes.Sent from my iPhone ,I am also interested in your percentage. I am not doubting it :-) but I once told someone 40% and then went looking for something to back me up (as this number was quoted from my fertility doctor) and the best I could find was 20%.
