Guest guest
Thank you! My daughter has been diagnosed hypothyroid and it is not Hashimotos so this makes sense to me. A year ago she tested normal and now she is very low. I will get some today and try it! Becky To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Sun, September 26, 2010 9:07:52 PMSubject: Re: Iodine Deficiency Most stores have Povidone, which is 1% and can be used transdermally, not internally. Some stores also have Iodine tincture, which is stronger. Tincture is only used transdermally, too. Cheryl>> Can you just get iodine from the store, paint it on you and wait and see? Guest guest
Cheryl, I am a little confused about the method of delivery for the iodine. Do you give it orally or do you rub it into the skin? If it is absorbed through the skin, where is the best place to put it? I ordered the Lugol's 2%, because I don't want it to be to strong. Is selenium a must before giving iodine? What brand do you use? Thanks, Sharla > > > > Cheryl, > > Thank you so much for taking the time to provide me with so much info. Do you think that the adrenal problem could be associated with an iodine deficency? Or do you think there could be seperate issues going on? I hope I am not asking to many questions, but I do respect the advice from my fellow biomedical mother's. We use both kosher salt and sea salt. We already have Vitamin C, Magnesium, and a Multi with B's in place as well as Liver Life. I am going to order some iodine tonight. I was looking at ordering Lugol's but should I order the 2% or 5% solution? I would do just about anything (as long as it is safe) to get rid of her yeast issues. I can smell it on her when it is acting up (she also has thrush sometimes). I will start with one drop. How long did your son's yeast die off last? Did you do a completely sugar free diet to help get rid of the yeast? > > > > Thank you again, > > Sharla >
Guest guest
Method of delivery is entirely up to you. Some people just swallow it. Some people just use it transdermally. Some people, myself included do both. This is the Iodine i use: http://www.swansonvitamins.com/LGS001/ItemDetail For those that choose the pill, I would still use at least 1 drop per day of the liquid so it coats the stomach lining. The pill is designed to not dissolve until it hits the intestine, so thats my reasoning for ingesting at least some liquid. There are a few really old studies of how iodine coats and heals the stomach lining from many issues. My way is a bit less precise because it depends on how much of an area you cover with the iodine to how much is absorbed. If you are a stickler for amounts (I'm not as long as it's close ;-)) then you may want to just do ingested. The larger the area it's spread the more absorbed. I give my son 2 drops am/aft each day which is about half his intake. I put the other 12+ mg on and between his toes, soles of his feet, every freckle or skin eruption, inner thighs and stomach. Freckles, age spots any other blemish/skin tag/ eruption that isnt skin should have iodine daily imo. I use to have age spots on my hands that are now gone.I also had several spots that could possibly be precancerous that are now gone, too. My reasoning is that the transdermal provides a steady flow of iodine where as ingested may be excreted before utilized. I don't know this to be true, just my own logic. I figure about 3/4mg is absorbed transdermally if spread over a large area (based on animal studies). This is the Selenium i use: http://www.swansonvitamins.com/SWU171/ItemDetail?n=0 Se-methylselenocysteine is the one most reccommended for children with autism because some cant process that last step to make other selenium bioavailable. A small amount of Iodine without Se for a short period of time is not likely to cause a problem. With Higher dosages it's a definite must in order for the iodine to work correctly and not steal Se from other parts that need it. Hope that helps! Guest guest
Ok..I used 1% (poviodine) and less than two hours later it is just barley visable on my daughter. Do you think the 1% is ok or should I get some 2% and retest? If I supplement with iodine there is a chance her thyroid will start to work normal? Why do you have to add the sea salt in addition to the iodine? Thank you so much for this new pathway of hope! Guest guest
It would probably be about the same with 1 or 2%. Iodine does fix a thyroid, can eliminate thyroid antibodies too. Takes a while but it happens. How long it takes depends on what the issues are and how much iodine is supplemented. The sea salt helps remove the toxins and strengthens the adrenals. Plus it has minerals that help the iodine work more efficiently. Until i found the iodine connection last year i had pretty much given up hope, or accepted my son's fate. His progress this last year has made me know there still is hope even at an older age.
Guest guest
It's so great talking about that important topic that is often forgotten. I used iodine for my son for about 3 months and it was good. The only problem that we had was constipation.Did you have this issue? What do you do in those cases? The iodine that we used was Iosol from iherb, about 3-4drops per day. Thanks so much,Mimoza  It seems to me that there are very few if anyone here using iodine supplementation and since I believe that iodine is the key so many of you are missing i thought i would post. I have been using biomed for my son with autism for about 5 years. He is 17 years old, non verbal. I tried just about everything with him, Andys protocol, MB12, a long list of supps. Granted he started biomed late compared to most(age 12) and the improvements he saw then were mostly in calming his agressive and self injurous behaviour. Not much else. About a year ago he began iodine supplementation. After reading everything i could about iodine i believe it was the key that was missing. Within just a few months he went from using about 10 pecs to using over 75 of them. There has been a definite shift in his health, cognitive and behavioral abilities. The difference is night and day. So for many of you that arent finding recovery or have tried everything and seen little to no improvement, or even for those that see improvement with a long list of supps, i would recommend researching and trying iodine. The first few weeks are a bit ruff as the die off from latent virus is fairly swift. Like a moderately severe flu. Iodine kills bad Bacteria and parasites, too. There is some research that it clears gut biofilm. He doesnt have any of the behaviors associated with yeast anymore or latent strep. Going from daily constant yeasty behavior to nonexsistent. He started dumping metals after a few months(i could smell it and had been thru that before). He bagan eating different foods after about 4 months. His digestion seems perfect now, goin from constipation to regular/normal bms daily. There are just so many improvements it's hard to think of and list them all. I believe iodine deficiency is the root cause of autism and hundreds of other diseases. The vaccines damages the thyroid (among other things) which leads to iodine deficiency. The declining nutrients in the food supply havent helped the situation. Iodine deficieny leads to a host of auto immune problems and the body's inability to remove metals, parasites, virus, bacteria and toxins. Becoming iodine sufficient attacks the problem at the root. My son now only takes Iodine, Vit C, Magnesium, Selenium, Natural Salt and a B Complex. He is never sick now. He has no self injurious behaviors. No agressive behavior (tho mag, b6, taurine, theanine and rhodiola did help this before iodine, but if i forgot any of it, the consequences were horrid). He has learned sooo many new things this last year. He is communicating like never before. It really is amazing! And for me, the weight loss(after a lifetime of not being able to lose weight), total end of depression and never being sick has been pretty amazing, too. Check it out, Iodine may be the missing piece of the puzzle you have been searching for... Cheryl

Guest guest
Hi Mimoza, My son had severe constipation prior to iodine. For just about his entire life. Did you supplement with magnesium while taking the iodine? Mag is part of the iodine protocol so neither of us have taken the iodine without the mag, so that might be a reason if you werent using enough mag. The Iosol is only elemental iodine. Dr. Brownstein (wrote the book Iodine Why You Need It; Why You Can't Live Without It) recommends Lugols or Iodoral because it contains iodide and iodine. The reviews for Iosol seemed really good tho. Some had used both and liked the iosol better. Now i will have to get some and see the difference! Cheryl > > It's so great talking about that important topic that is often forgotten. Guest guest
Thank you so much! I'm going to talk to our DAN! doctor about this. Is it easy to switch from synthetic to Armour? I don't suppose you will be going to the DAN! conference in Long Beach? I have been hypothyroid for 20 plus years but I was never one to give things much thought until I found out my daughter was ASD and suddenly I can't stop searching for answers! Guest guest
Cheryl,When I read about your son, it sounded so much like my 14yo daughter. I have been reading a lot about hypothyroidism so I am ready to try iodine supplementation. I feel like I have tried everything in the last 10years. This maybe a big piece of the puzzle for my daughter. How much do you give your son? I noticed the natural thyroid choice website recommended 25-50mg. Is that the amount you give him? What brand do you think works best for your son? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks!Subject: Re: Iodine DeficiencyTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Monday, September 27, 2010, 9:31 PM Hi Mimoza, My son had severe constipation prior to iodine. For just about his entire life. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl! Thanks so much for all the info. I'm intrigued because I have never heard about iodine deficiency before. I have twin 3 year old girls, one of which was recently diagnosed with PDD. The other has some issues as well, but no diagnosis. Here are my questions: 1. Do you give the iodine at a particular time of day, with food, etc? 2. The vitamin/mineral supplement I give them (I use Kartners) contains vit C, selenium, and magnesium. Can I just continue giving them that? Also, do you give all supplements at the same time or in any particular order? I also give them cod liver oil, a probiotic and a digestive enzyme (and fiber) All Kartner's. I just bought colostrom but have not started it yet. 3. This is probably a silly question, but the natural salt - do you just cook with it or is it an actual supplement that you give your son? We have an appointment with a DAN tomorrow so I'll see what she says. I just don't want to overdo it with all of these supplements, but I obviously want to do everything I can to help my girls. Thanks in advance for your advice! - > > > > > > " ...Buy a 2% tincture of iodine at the pharmacy, take a Q-Tip and paint a spot > > > the size of a silver dollar on your stomach or thigh. Guest guest
Hi , Thats a really nice blend of vits except the kelp. If you give the reccommended dosage the mag and c are a little low. 400mg mag and 1000mg C would be better for that age. Mag Chloride transdermally might be a nice addition to up the mag and avoid any digestion issues. Feels good and very calming. I give the iodine in the am and in the aft. Some people do get an upset stomach but taking with food will avoid that. I cook with natural salt, sprinkle alot on food and drink it in cold water (some say warm to hot is better but its sooo gross that way!). The taste is soooo much better than old salt. I carry a little baggy with me when i go to restaurants, too. The old table salt just tastes so bad now! Would be interested to hear what the Dan! says. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, How much iodine you are giving to your son? I give 3 drops per day for my four years old. His thyroid test show a bit lower than normal range and has his neck 'swollen'when he shouting or crying. I think he needs iodine as well. I have been supplementing iodine for more than three months, have not see any diff thus far. Do you think the amount giving is low? Guest guest
Does kosher salt count as natural salt? Or is it just plain sea salt that you use? So you don't have to give the salt and other supplements at the exact same time as the iodine, as long they get enough of all throughout the day?- Kirk-To: mb12 valtrex From: mossyforrest@...Date: Tue, 28 Sep 2010 14:10:13 +0000Subject: Re: Iodine Deficiency Hi , Thats a really nice blend of vits except the kelp. Would be interested to hear what the Dan! says. Cheryl > > Hi Cheryl! > > Thanks so much for all the info. I'm intrigued because I have never heard about iodine deficiency before. I have twin 3 year old girls, one of which was recently diagnosed with PDD. The other has some issues as well, but no diagnosis. Here are my questions: > > 1. > > - >
Guest guest
Hi Vinnie, The amount might be low, however sometimes slow and steady is better than fast and uncomfortable. If you arent seeing much happen adding another drop would be ok . If his tests are still low after 3 months adding one or even 2 drops more might be good. The thing with iodine is that iodine sufficiency can be accomplished with small amount or a large amount. The only difference is the amount of time it takes to reach sufficiency. Iodine causes detox in people that were deficient, so the lower amount lets the body detox slow and steady. But a higher amount makes it faster. A 4 yr old has less toxcity than an adult, and healthier livers (usually) so detox can go unnoticed except for feeling better. The thyroid swells when it traps iodine. If its swelling it's retraining itself to hold more. Exertion may just make it appear more prominent and not be actual swelling. My son gets about 25mg a day. I take 50mg a day. I should probably up his but it's hard cause he can't tell me if something hurts and my own detox symptoms are sometimes uncomfortable(usually meaning i need more salt or mag) so i've gone the slower route with him. Cheryl > > Hi Cheryl, >  > How much iodine you are giving to your son? I give 3 drops per day for my four years old. His thyroid test show a bit lower than normal range and has his neck 'swollen'when he shouting or crying. I think he needs iodine as well. I have been supplementing iodine for more than three months, have not see any diff thus far. Do you think the amount giving is low? >  > Vinnie  >
Guest guest
Kosher salt doesnt have the minerals that Sea Salt has. It is less refined and chemically altered than table salt, but not by much. So it is better than table salt but not as good as Sea Salt. Alot of people take all their supplements at once. Others like to space it out. With Vit C the body only can absorb so much at once and the rest is excreted. So taking 1000mg of C at once means that half is wasted. I typically use salt thruout the day, and split B vits between am and aft. Cheryl > > > Does kosher salt count as natural salt? Or is it just plain sea salt that you use? Guest guest
Hi Cheryl Hope you could help clarify the dosage for me. After I took my son off SNT, I supplement 150mcg of iodine (health flo) perday. I could not tell how much iodine is in lugol (not available on website) but I just checked out iosol, it is as much as 1830mcg per serving- close to 10 times RDA. I also noticed you were talking about dosage in mg. So. Basically we are looking at high dose iodine protocol right? For a boy who weighs 33lbs,how much would you reckon the daily dosage to be? My son is on adrenal cortex and he does demo all hypothyroidism symptoms even blood works showed otherwise. Will cortex contradict or compliment iodine protocol? I am awaiting my membership to get approved by iodine group. Hope to learn as well. But meanwhile, appreciate your input. Rgds Shan
Guest guest
Hi Shan, Yes, Iodine in Mg vs Mcg is considered to be High Dose Iodine Protocol. LUGOL'S 5%: Each VERTICAL drop is about 6.25 mg of iodine. (The correct way to make a drop is to hold the dropper vertical and squeeze the rubber topper) HORIZONTAL drops - when the dropper is held side to side there is twice as much iodine per drop. Approximately 12.5 mg LUGOL'S 2%: Approximately 1/2 half the above measurements The above info is from here: http://www.lugols.com/ I always just figure my 2% is about 3mg per drop ... math is not my strong suit and rounding off is easier and i personally think the difference isnt that much to worry about but realize some people are good at math and dont mind figuring it to the exact amount so what works for each is good. Have to ignore RDA for iodine, it bascially will barely keep a person from goiter but nothing else. Actually all the RDA should be ingored ;-) Adrenal cortex is especially good for those with adrenal problems. Most any adult with thyroid problems is also going to have adrenal problems to some extent and for those that the damage is severe the adrenal cortex gives the adrenals the components to rebuild. After you are in the Iodine group you will learn that most docs thyroid tests dont test the right things and most docs cant read the results correctly. Some docs arent concerned with low to borderline thyroid results when they should be because the subtle long term damage that is being caused. If your child had verifiable adrenal damage i would bet he also has thyroid problems and iodine deficiency, it just goes together.
