Hi,

Try to eat things that are low carb, try different things and see what effect

they have on you, that way you will be able to come up with a bit of variety for

your snacks. One that I often snack on is salary or cheese. both fill me up and

have very little effect on my blood sugars. It does have to be good cheese, the

kind you have to cut yourself, the pre-sliced cheese isn't as filling and has a

greater effect.

Cheers,

Brett.

Hi Faye

Every person's body reacts differently to different foods. So, peanuts for one

diabetic is fine, where as for your body, ti spikes you.

Maybe try almonds and a few chuncks of cheese for a snack.

Hey all,

Waking up this morning I was 158, 8.7, so I postponed eating breakfast for 2

hours to break the high and dosed 3 units of humalog.

I drink lots of water when I am high. Water helps your cells hydrate and be more

receptive to the insulin.

Two hours later I was 90, 5.0.

For breakfast, I ate a cheese stick and seasoned chicken and did not dose

anything to cover it since I was at my 2 hour peek and had insulin in me already

and there are only a few carbs in the chicken/cheese stick.

I'm curious . With all the cheese sticks and chicken thingys you eat, not

to mention the 's hamburgers, are your lipid numbers in a good range?

Sorry, Faye, I don't remember if your question was ever addressed.

You'll need to try some different foods to see what works, and what doesn't. If

peanuts don't work, try something else. This could be some healthy cheese (I am

not a cheese person and have no idea which ones), or maybe even some lean meat.

I forget if you are type 1 or type 2, and it's entirely possible you don't need

any kind of bedtime snack. If you're hungry and want something with no calories

or very few carbs/calories, eat some celery or a few vegetables. Maybe some

celery with peanut butter, although if peanuts are a problem, maybe not.

Another good snack Faye are nuts-but almonds or walnuts. Just don't go

overboard with eating them. Another calorie free snack are dill pickles if

you don't have a restraint on salt. But any green vegetable is good or as

says, eat a few chuncks of cheese. The low fat cheeses are best, but

you may have to shop around for the brand that yo like the best. Your best

friend is your meter. About 2 hours after eating anything, test and see

what it does to you!

Hi Dave,

I actually don't eat wendy's cheeseburgers. I won't know my lipids until 3

months from now. However, chicken has no fat in it so I am ok there. Cheese

sticks have fat in it, but when you do not eat carbohydrates, your body will

metabolize the fat from the cheese for energy so it doesn't have to much of an

impact on your LDL.

The last time I was on Dr B's diet, I was on it for almost 6 months. My LDL was

75 to 80 and that was with eating cheese, sausage, bacon, etc. I also only

weighed 160 pounds.

dill pickles are great! Just don't get the sweet pickles since they have sugar

in them.

I haven't posted in a few days.

Well, the weekend was rough, barbecues, pizza parties and such! I was bad!!

Saturday, I ranged from 6.3 (113) to 7.2 (129)

Sunday 6.6 (119) to 8.1 (146)

Monday 5.6 (101) to 6.5 (117)

Today 5.0 (90) to 6.2 (111)

Getting back to lean meat and vegetables sure helps!!

You know , as long as you are under 120 most of the time, something some

of us type 1s really struggle with, you're really good to go! Go ahead and

enjoy pizza or whatever now and then. You'll cut your life shorter by fretting

about a few readings over 120 now and then.

oh lets stop talking pizza guys, lets talk cereal! *grin*.

Dave, you and the lucky charms...

Listen, the new type of lucky charms are nothing like what we had as a kid,

right? I mean back in the day we had to dig through an entire box to find 5

marshmallows... now you have to dig to find the cereal past the marshmallows...

tons, and tons, of marshmallows! A dream come true!

I'm actually experimenting with a different cereal--frosted mini-wheats!

Now, the sugar is 1 gram higher than Lucky Charms, but that's in a whole

serving. It looks like half a serving, or about 12 pieces, works pretty well.

That's still around 22 grams of carbohydrates, but about 6 grams of sugar. The

greatest benefit is that it's a whole wheat product, and therefore is high in

fiber (about 3 grams with half a serving).

It's great to have an idea, without confirmation, that a certain such and such

is helping someone, but it really helps to hear that confirmation once and a

while! started the ball rolling on the " your blood sugar results " thread,

and even though a few people weren't happy about the increase in message

traffic, I consider it to be a very valuable thread, in essence, a very useful

tool.
