Guest guest
Hey guys, pre-dinner was 90, 5.0. For dinner I had 3 hot dogs cooked on the grill and fresh green beans that my wife seasoned and they were outstanding! I didn't have time to ask what she used but regardless, it was amazing. I dosed 2 units of humalog to cover the meal. My two hour post was 106, 5.8. Taking 's suggestion, I had a glass of red wine for a bedtime snack and a mozzarella cheese stick with the wine. The wine is outstanding for suppressing the dawn phenomena so drinking one glass prior to bed is a very common practice for type 2 and type 1 diabetics. It suppresses the sugar dump from your liver. Guest guest
Hey troops, I woke up at 2 AM with a low blood sugar of 58, 3.2. This was from drinking the glass of wine. I knew it would drop my sugar, but I did not know how much so wanted to get up to test. I ate one 4 gram glucose tablet to come up 15-20 points, 0.8 to 1.1. So if you ever drink any alcohol, bare in mind it will drop your blood sugar. Do not ever take humalog and then drink alcohol. You will pass out. If you do drink some alcohol, make sure to check your sugar 1 hour or so past drinking it since alcohol will drop your blood sugar and that is why one glass of red wine an evening is suggested and used by some doctors for diabetic blood sugar control. Guest guest
Hi, Breakfast was 6.6. I had Eggs and bacon, no bread. Dosed two units of insulin. I didn't do the post reading today, but lunch was 7.1, had peanut butter on toast, for about 22 grams of carbs, so dosed 5 units. Post lunch was 9.1. Pre dinner is 5.7, and am having a roast, probably 40 grams of carbs, since for a change I am going to have a potato. Will dose 8 units. Cheers, Brett. Guest guest
pre-breakfast I was 136, 7.5. This was from the dawn phenomena and eating the glucose tablet at 2 am. I dosed 8 units of humalog to come down and also have the ability to eat breakfast... I am hungry! Normally I break a high sugar before eating since I don't want to feed a high sugar. But for breakfast I ate 2 hard boiled eggs dipped in hot sauce. I ate some chicken chunks dipped in brown mustard as well. Guest guest
Hey guys, Two hour post breakfast I was 53, 2.9. Obviously I took to much humalog for breakfast since my target is to be 120, 6.6, or less but not that low. this time, I ate half a glucose which is 2 grams of carbohydrate so I don't spike high for lunch over 90, 5.0, because I still have sugar dumping in my system from the dawn phenomena. Guest guest
Believe, , I berated myself a lot. But it turned out okay as the glass of wine apparently kep the sugar-also did not eat everything, although I was tempted! Re: your blood sugar results Thanks Brett. It is really helping me to see that there are other folks who are human too *grin*. Especially that Pat over there. Good grief Charlie brown, she is a retired registered nurse, a type 1, and goes out and eats 9000 pounds of Italian pasta/rolls? Sheesh. and I thought I was bad *wink*. Hope that made you smile Pat since I am kidding! Regards, Re: your blood sugar results Hi, Okay, pre-lunch was 8.9, I had a snack bar with 18 grams of carb and a black coffee. I dosed 6 units of insulin, 4 to cover lunch and 2 to cover the high reading. Post lunch was 4.5 and pre dinner was 3.2. For dinner I had a couple of hamberger patties and vegies, estimated at 20 grams of carbs, so had 3 units of insulin, to account for the low. I also took the insulin after I had eaten, since I was low and starting to feel the effects of it. Cheers, Brett.

Guest guest
Here's the first half of Sunday, July 19: 2:29 AM: 177/9.8; 2 units of Humalog .Not really sure why the high, since dinner of chicken is usually a good dinner for me. 6:44 AM: 70/3.8; get out of bed. Humalog in middle of night once again not necessary, but this is not always the case. About 3 ounces of grape juice. 7:40 AM: 121/6.7; Breakfast of plain English muffin and poached egg. Cup of coffee with French Vanilla creamer and 1 sugar cube. 8 units of Humalog. I might normally take 9, but try to back off slightly on Sundays so I don't run low in church. 8:43 AM: 104/5.7; I always check just before leaving for church. Now running on low side for unknown reason. 2 saltine chunky peanut butter crackers and couple ounces of grape juice. 9:57 AM: 97/5.38; Always check prior to coffee time, which is between Sunday School and church service. 1 glucose tablet, then 4 pre-packaged peanut butter crackers, coffee with French Vanilla creamer. 11:35 AM: 86/4.7; Running low this morning, which is not unusual. 1 bite-size Almond Joy candy. 12:24 PM: 90/5; Break from Triscuits, and will have half a bagel with chunky peanut butter, plus large portion of walnuts. Water and half banana, and oatmeal cookie like usual. 8 units of Humalog. The balance of today later this evening, and this will probably be my last entry with this topic. Guest guest
Hi, Post dinner reading was 8.9, as I did eat a potato and portion size was way to much. Bed time reading was 8.1. Because of the large dinner, I decided to not split my night times insulin this evening, so had all 17 units prior to bed. Pre Breakfast was 8.1. am being bad again and am having serial, but will bolus for half an hour before eating. Estimated carbs are 30 and will dose 7 units to cover it. Cheers, Brett. Guest guest
Also check out carb factoring. It involves using a scale, but is a very accurate way of counting cabs, especially for foods like fruit and pasta which are difficult to measure. I was using it until my courses started and was getting much better results than I am now! Jen Re: your blood sugar results It is because you are a type 1 diabetic who cannot count well. Guest guest
Hi , Just a comment on the lows. When you go low, your liver will often dump a load of glucose into your system to try and raise it. For people without diabetes this is effective, and even for most people with type 2. For those of us with type 1 the response is often too late and too aggressive. When you drink alcohol, however, your liver gets too tied up dealing with the alcohol to dump glucose, which is why you must be careful about lows after drinking it. But this liver dumping is often why people will " rebound " to higher levels after lows even if they do not overtreat and eat too much. Once you've had one low, it takes about 24 hours for your liver to rebuild its store of glucose, thus you will be more prone to lows later on, even more than usual. It could be part of the reason you went low after breakfast, too. Jen Re: your blood sugar results Hey guys, Two hour post breakfast I was 53, 2.9.
