Guest guest
Woke up this morning with a blood sugar of 13.8 or 248. Delayed absorption of some of yesterday's food catching up with me, I think!! Usually I would eat breakfast right away, but I'll do what some of you have been doing and wait for a while after correcting to eat. Guest guest
Waking up I was 259, 14.3. This was from eating the cereal before bed/at dinner time. I dosed 10 units of humalog to break the high and skipped breakfast. pre-lunch I was 117, 6.5. I ate 7 chicken chuncks, non-breaded, with some brown mustard. I dosed 2 units of humalog to cover the meal. I'll post two hour post results later on... Regards, Re: your blood sugar results Hi, Okay, pre-lunch was 8.9, I had a snack bar with 18 grams of carb and a black coffee. I dosed 6 units of insulin, 4 to cover lunch and 2 to cover the high reading. Post lunch was 4.5 and pre dinner was 3.2. For dinner I had a couple of hamberger patties and vegies, estimated at 20 grams of carbs, so had 3 units of insulin, to account for the low. I also took the insulin after I had eaten, since I was low and starting to feel the effects of it. Cheers, Brett.

Guest guest
People think I'm nuts for not using a pump since I am a computer programmer lol. I could never do it... it is just another level of management that I'd never have time to juggle. I admire you for being able to use a pump.... as you know, it takes some work to use it! Regards, Re: your blood sugar results Wow!! Jen, you must have an on board computer!! How do you keep track of all of that? A photographic memory? Smile!! Guest guest
When you get it wrong that carb guessing can be a bummer. good shooting so far. I am a bad speller. How do you spell bolus? RE: your blood sugar results Here's the rest of yesterday as well as today ... To finish off yesterday, last night I ended up having an ice cap from Tim Hortons along with a few Tim Bits on the way home because I was starving. It was 55 grams of carbs and my blood sugar was 4.5 or 81, so I bloused 4.75 units. About an hour and a half later my blood sugar was 8.9 or 160 and I had pizza and a Caesar salad. It was order out but I went for the thin crust multigrain pizza which doesn't have a terrible impact on my blood sugar. I will admit to eating 100 grams of carbs for this single meal! I used a combination bolus on my pump, delivering 5.65 units immediately and delivering another 3.5 untis spread out over the next five hours. I also put my basal rates up by 0.05 units an hour. About two hours later my blood sugar was 7.4 or 133, and another hour after that it was 8.3 or 150. I bloused a small half unit correction and went to bed. This morning my blood sugar was 6.1 or 110. I had 36 grams of carbs for breakfast and bloused 3.65 units. Three hours later I had a shortbread cookie and bloused for 1.5 units for 15 grams of carbs. My blood sugar was 5.5 or 99. About an hour later my blood sugar was 6.8 or 122 and I had sushi and a latte, bloused 7.75 units for 85 grams of carbs. Two hours later I went to class to find that the professor had brought pizza in. I bloused for 62 grams of carbs, again using the combination bolus feature on my pump. I delivered 3.7 units immediately and spread 2.5 units out over the next five hours. About four hours later I was 6.5 or 117 and had 30 grams of carbs, blousing 2.5 units to cover those carbs. About two hours later I bloused an additional 5 units to cover 50 grams of carbs ... a Starbucks frappuccino. As you can probably tell, I ate an ungodly amount of carbs today!!! About three and a half hours later I ate out with classmates. I had a burger and Caesar salad and blueberry pie for dessert. We'd also been walking around a *lot* today. Before dinner I tested at 2.6 or 47. I had left my quick-acting glucose in the car so asked for some regular Coke. I drank about half the glass they gave me. I bloused for 100 grams of carbs again using a combination bolus, delivering 7.9 units immediately and spreading 2.1 units out over the next five hours. Throughout the meal I continued to feel low so drank the rest of the regular Coke. About an hour in I decided to re-test and was only up to 3.7 or 67. I didn't have anything with me except Insta-Glucose which is 25 grams of carbs, so I took that. I was *sure* I would be high from drinking and entire glass of regular Coke plus Insta-Glucose, that is a *lot* of sugar there!!! I also wasn't completely sure of the carb count of my meal. We spent quite a bit more time walking around after eating, and when I tested just now I was only 6.8 or 122 with a fair bit of insulin on board still. I've had a small 10 gram snack before bed, but I think I will re-check in the middle of the night. I am not sure whether raising my basal rates has had such an impact on my blood sugars, whether I am just counting carbs too aggressively today since I haven't been able to measure most of what I've eaten, or whether it's that I got a lot of exercise, or if it's hormones ... or maybe a combination of all of those. Needless to say tomorrow I should be eating much fewer carbs since I will be at home most of the day, though I will be eating out with friends tomorrow night, but will try to stay lower carb again! I haven't been doing well at the lower carb thing but I think I will get there ... Classes continue through next week but then they end, and I think once those are over things will become much easier! Jen

Guest guest
Here's Saturday, July 18, early morning through lunch. I've divided the ml/dl reading by 18 in order to convert to mmuls. I am not sure this is right, so please correct me if it is not. 3:53 AM. 255/14.1; Looks like the apple crumb dessert from Friday evening, which turned out to be store bought/bakery apple pie, caught up to me! I dosed 7 units of Humalog. 6:44 AM: 81; Wake-up, pre-breakfast. About 3 ounces of grape juice. 7:19 AM: 100/5.5; Pre-breakfast, and breakfast of Honey Wheat English muffin (5 grams fiber) with chunky peanut butter, and moderate portion of walnuts. Cup of coffee with French Vanilla and 1 sugar cube. 10 units of Humalog, which is an extra unit since I was guessing I might still see some leftover affect from Friday night. *Second cup of coffee with French Vanilla creamer, but no sugar. *I only use a sugar cube with first cup in mornings. 10:28 AM: 64/3.5; Looks like I over compensated. 3-4 ounces of grape juice and 1 glucose tablet, 2 sandwich saltine peanut butter crackers. *Between last reading and lunch, handful of dry roasted peanuts and bite-size Snickers. 12:07 PM: 115/6.38; Lunch of 6 Triscuit crackers and large portion of walnuts, water, medium apple, and 1 oatmeal cookie (homemade with old fashioned oats). 6 units of Humalog. Guest guest
Hey guys, ok, pre-lunch I was 117, 6.5. 2 hour post I was 90, 5.0. I wanted an afternoon snack, not dinner, so I ate fresh green beans with parmesan cheese on it, salt/pepper, and a hard boiled egg seasoned with a pinch of hot pepper. I dosed 2 units of humalog to cover the afternoon snack. I'll post my pre-dinner but I am assuming it will be around 90, 5.0, as well. Guest guest
Thanks Brett. It is really helping me to see that there are other folks who are human too *grin*. Especially that Pat over there. Guest guest
yes, I do. However, this is nothing more than guess work... none of us can count carbohydrates 100% accurately and we will always swing low, or high, and having to eat all the time to stop passing out. I cannot stand it and wonder why in the hell I keep doing it! I'm trying to get off of this damn roller coaster as I am sick of it! Guest guest
Fortunately, I am a type2 diabetic and I love to have those warning signals unlike you, a type 1 diabetic who just goes to lala land when you bottom out without a warning. Guest guest
And here's the balance of Saturday, July 18, mid afternoon through bedtime. 2:46 PM: 140/7.77. One sandwich chunky peanut butter cracker. 5:22 PM: 104/5.7. After nap, and an hour until dinner. Handful of dry roasted peanuts. Half cup of coffee with some French Vanilla creamer. 6:49 PM: 123/6.83. Grilled chicken (our grill), brown rice, and steamed broccoli, and glass of sugar-free green tea. 2 small animal cracker/cookies, which are probably only 3 or 4 grams of carbohydrate. 11 units Humalog. 10:01 PM: 153/8.5. Not sure why. Normal dinner dosage is 12 units, but I only took 11, but chicken usually requires less. Perhaps I ate more brown rice than I thought. 10:46 PM: 145/8. Often drops 20-40 points for my second evening check, but maybe the rice, which had butter, as did the broccoli, held me up. Will eat smaller bowl of cereal, and handful of dry roasted peanuts. Not splitting 9 units of Lantus yet. Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Guest guest
Hi Harry, That really is not the case. Recall, I trained you on carbohydrate counting and many on the list a few years back? My point is that carbohydrate counting is guess work at best. The less carbos you eat at a meal, the better you can estimate your insulin requirements and get rid of swings.
