Go to www.bpdcentral.com they have a list of books that you can get (I think

Amazon.com) but it's a start and they tell you a little about what each book

is about. Amazon.com sometimes lets you look inside the book and read a few

pages to see if it's what you want. There's alot of information out there.

I have about 20 books that I have read, including the Stop Walking on

Eggshells book and workbook. (Very good material). I just suggest going to

the above website to get started!

No one intended you to be offended. A little levity helps now and again.

Chill.

RE: Re:He's Back In Jail

I find this sort of talk offensive. Virtually no one acts normally in

abnormal environments. Hollywood celebrities are ordinary people set adrift

in crazy circumstances. I doubt many people could handle themselves well.

I also think that when we discuss mentally ill artists in derogatory terms

we fail to appreciate that their brain chemistry made it possible for this

art to exist. WPeople with mental illness may be difficult to live with,

but without their differences, we would have little to enjoy.

,

I wholeheartedly agree with you and Kelley. I remember being so angry with

my daughter (before she had dx) I couldn't for the life of me figure out why

she was acting the way she was! Like a spoiled brat and a baby all wrapped

in up in herself! Then, through educating myself through reading, reading,

more reading and being on this chat group, the lite bulb went off! I was

empowered with knowledge!

I learned to seperate her from the disease and felt an overwhelming

compassion for what she was going through. She must have felt so alone and

not thinking she could trust me! I think if you can see BP's from this

attitude it truly is healthier for both.

You are right too, that they don't manipulate and do things on purpose, they

are driven by the illness to react in a childish way......and I try not to

take things she says in anger personally any more. I just walk away. She

isn't mad at me, she's simply mad.

Good points, and good perspectives. I certainly feel I have the freedom to

think someone strange that thinks and acts in the fashion.

Re: Re:He's Back In Jail

I find knowing celebrities are not sane makes them more normal. There are

many celebritites now attributed to have had BPD. All celebrities are not

any more mental ill than all stock brokers or all lawyers. Those that have

done some really insane things do get noticed more.

As for Angelina Jolie, when you read such things in her public bio such as :

Was married to Jonny Lee in a black leather pants and a white shirt.

On the white shirt she painted her husband's name in her own blood (across

the back). it kind a makes one wonder whats up with that. her bio is

fascinating as is the list of superstars in her family. She is doing really

good stuff with her life now, but her dreams as a child were to be a funeral

director and she collects knives and has an interest in mortuary science, a

tatoo of the Japanese symbol for death as well. I would say at the very

least she was fascinated with death. All though her own statements in her

bio say that she may think about death more often than most people but that

is because she loves life so....something like that. She also claimed to be

so bored with movies in 2003 that she was going to settle down in England

and just be a Mum, but has a list of new movies since then and some in

production.

One of her other quotes was that she didnt need therapy, her roles are

therapy. Has a tattoo of a blue window on her lowerback. She claims it's

because no matter where she was at any point in her life she always found

herself looking out a window wishing to be elsewhere.

i don't know but if my neighbors daughter did these things I would speculate

some kind of problems ;)

I find MANY things to enjoy without adding the differences (i.e.

chaos, tension, frustration, hurt, pain, etc.) the mentally ill

insert into our lives. As a matter of fact, I find it difficult to

understand what about those above things add to my enjoyment of life.

it is much easier once we can do this, but I do recall the anguish to get that

far!

Angelina especially has done tv shows where she talked about cutting.....there

is a whole page of celebrity talk i fofund that horrified me, but at the same

time was glad to see that celebrities with problems step up and tell others

thier problems. On the other hand an interview I read by Cristina Ricci was not

something I would want a teen who felt the need to self injure to read, as she

did not act like burning herself was wrong, only that it calmed her down.

EEKS....

i think you mentioned A Bright Red Scream? is that the book that first talked

about the problems Princess Di had? or did her autibiography come out first?

To be honest, I have not read all of A Bright Red Scream. I purchased it

when I was doing research for my memoir about my horrid years of dealing

with bp. So, am unable to answer your question at this point.

However, I'll dig the book out and see if I can find something about

Princess Di.

A person who struggles with bp, whether a celebrity or not, is very

courageous to come forward and talk frankly about that same struggle. And,

like you, there are many things I've read when people were discussing their

struggle plainly and honestly that I hope my bp dtr never, ever hears about.

It would just fuel her own already very vivid imagination.

dont do that for me, i will just buy both books :)

thanks for the thought though. Ido agree about some of the written information

not being for our kids. I want my BPH to read these things but he is at a point

wwhere he should be able to handle them but our kids might just take some of

this as a go ahead and a green light for what is happening in thier lives.

She wrote about it in a book she wrote before she died, i think or it was

included in a biography about her.....cant find the book now. There are many

books on BPD that include excerps abut . Dont know if the bpd is mentioned

in this book In Search of Herself: Portrait of a Trouble Princess, but it

does discuss her behavior.
