na:

I have never had dizziness with my PLS. But, I

just feel off balance now and then. You very likely have an inner ear infection, or something like that.

Take care,

My husband also had problems with being dizzy went to the hospital a few

times for falls and had to get sewn up. Doctors did some test and found that

it was his vassal vatic nerve which is something we all have some are just

more sensitive then others is what causes some people to get dizzy when in

church or in a crowd. Was really bad for him as a child was a good catholic

so spend a lot of time in church smelling the incense burning. With him meant

he was outside most of the time. So he now takes a medication for this which

is really an antidepressant. So not sure if there is a connection there also.

Will don't know if this helps anyone just thought I would send the info

along. Thanks Shirley

na, I am dizzy a lot. I think it has a lot to do with all the

falls and hitting my head, but my family thinks I may have always been

dizzy or maybe they think I am just ditzy. I fell a few weeks ago and I

have had trouble ever sense. Of resent I have only felt safe in my wheel

chair out side my home. When I hit my head this time I was nocked out in

the garage and it took my 2 hours to get 10 feet back into the house. I

had to call someone to get back up and I was sick for a few days. I am so

scared to go in the garage now that I get quite dizzy just looking at. I

also get dizzy if I don't eat properly (even just sitting). I have found

that I need to make myself eat something (healthy) every couple hours.

Take care, B. Oregon

I've had this happen recently. Dr. said I could be hypoglycemic (sp?), and need to eat a snack around 10am and 3 pm. It eliminated that problem. But now I'm putting on more weight!

, Thanks for caring! No I didn't go to the Dr.. They really don't

care! I am going to a new Dr. on the 28th so will see if she thinks any

thing is wrong. I have had low blood pressure most of my life. I was told

to just move slowly. I have no choice now but I still get dizzy. My head

still hurts so I will take it easy and use my wheel chair more. I have

been using my Jazzy on the main floor of the house. The woodwork, walls,

and cupboards are taking a beating but I am getting better every day.

My daughter and I will be going to Disney Land and Sea World for Spring

brake. Do you live close and would you like to meet ? March 22-28th

Thank You again and take care, B. Oregon

PLEASE..PLEASE...PLEASE...will all of us,with this balance (dizzy)

problem get a cell phone and carry it 24 hours a day.

The consultant from the local ALS society suggested this to me. I

had already had one, but didn't always have it with me.

Now when I fall I can call someone to help me. it is never out of my

pocket!!

I think that balance is probably my worst problem. it only makes my

walking worse since I am staggering and bouncing off everything in

my path. And then I often get the inner ear problem and that makes

the dizziness/balance even worse.

Please take great care with this particular part of our PLS. when

you can't walk well and add dizziness and lack of balance to the mix

we can find ourselves getting terribly hurt.

My P.T. suggested eating salted peanuts to help with

my blood pressure problem. It worked! I don't eat

much salt to begin with so it wasn't worried about

that.

I would love to see you and your daughter while you

are here. You'll have to go withing spittin distance

of my house on your way to Sea World. We will have to

get together while you are here. Where are you

staying?

Good luck with the new doctor. It is their job to

care! If they don't care, then it really is time to

find someone who does.

I had long standing experience with incapacitating dizziness. Mine was

successfully treated by my physical therapist (just two sessions) with the

Epley maneuver. It was very easy, not uncomfortable nor unpleasant. Not

all PTs are familiar with the maneuver, so you may have to do some searching

for one who is skilled in that procedure. It seems that debris collects in

the inner ear, causing a condition called Benign Paroxysmal Positional

Vertigo (BPPV). When you change position these little flecks (of calcium

carbonate) move causing symptoms of lightheadedness, dizziness, imbalance

and nausea. You can also do vestibular exercises at home. There is a good

explanation BPPV at the web-site www.physicaltherapy.about.com Go to the

list at the left and click on to Vestibular Rehab. Actually, there is lots

of interesting stuff on the physical therapy site. I hope this will be the

answer for some of the folks who have this condition. I know it is an awful

feeling.

My computer died and Juno will no let me send so I will keep trying.

Thank you for the reply. I will be staying at the Anaheim Hilton. We are

going to Sea World on the 23rd,24th or the 25th. I think we will make it

a day trip or we could stay over night. If you have sometime on one of

these days we can plan a time to meet. It would be nice to meet you.

I will try the nuts but I have a weight problem and I also try to stay

away from salt. I don't think I could stop at just a few nuts.

Thank you so much for all of you help! B. Oregon
