Guest guest Report post Posted December 20, 2001 Barb, did your doctor say where your fibroids are; inside the uterus, in the uterine wall or outside the uterus? Generally the ones that cause the heavy bleeding are inside the uterus (submucuosal). I have 2 small fibroids 2 cm and 3 cm. I will be having the one that is submucuosal removed next month via hysteroscopic resection. In this procedure the fibroid is removed through the vagina, and no incision is made. It is an outpatient procedure and recovery time is supposed to be 24 to 48 hours. The first doctor I saw didn't even mention this option. He suggested a vaginal hysterectomy, which seems pretty drastic to me for such tiny fibroids, which don't seem to be growing fast at all. I quickly found another doctor who would be more open to other procedures including UAE. I was excited to find out that this fibroid which is probably causing the bleeding can be removed this way. A good website to learn more is http://fibroiduae.com/. Myo is myomectomy, which is the removal of the fibroid, also known as a myoma. It didn't stop my bleeding- in fact it augumented it and I bled like crazy (can't leave the house kind of bleeding and passing out) for five days before going back for more treatment. Then I was put on the injection and told to take the estrogen pill with it. Here's the deal, every time I miss a pill- If i take it too late in the day or skip a day, it starts my period. Maybe you need the depo to offset the estrogen in some way, but in my experience, it does not stop the bleeding- it's the estrogen that does the trick. I had my surgery in 1990 and didn't have any problems with the surgery or chemo. You will be in my prayers. I am working part time, and am playing it by ear to see how I feel after the treatment. I feel drained from trying to keep an upbeat positive attitude for family and friends.
