I agree. Treadmills are dangerous. To much exact repetition. A walk in the

park is a much better idea. J

My doctor told me not to get on the treadmill at all. After I have my TKR on

the 16th, will I be able to use the treadmill again?

Mine's an Omron. I got it from the 350 Store at Cleveland Clinic. It has a

program I can put on my computer, but I never did.

We were at the clinic today and we had to go from end to the other & back again.

I logged 4472 steps for that. That's 1.62 miles.

Of course, I wasn't walking steady for the 4 hours. Lots of stops & starts.

Who knows...I'm just happy I could be on my feet that long without pain 9

months after my TKR.

Hi , I really find it strange that you walked for 4 hours and only logged

1,000 steps. You should have made the 10,000 easily. I calibrated my

pedometer with two other walkers and we were pretty much even, so I know it is

working correctly. Did you get it at tones? I had one of theirs, and it

was pretty good for a while. I now have a " fitbit " which has a dashboard on my

computer that I can log into with calorie intake and exercise. My

daughter-in-law gave it to me for Christmas. I love it!

All the best, Joan

I have trouble with the 10,000 steps, too. We have a " doll house " , so walking

from one end to the other isn't very many steps. I went to an outdoor craft

festival with my daughter and grandson Saturday. We were there for 4 hours, but

I still logged only around 1000 steps! I think I'm going to recalibrate my

stride for my pedometer, because I'm walking better than when I first set it up.

I don't know if that will make my stride different, but it's worth a shot. I

tell myself every nice day to go for a walk. But I live on a country road with

no sidewalks that people tend to drive crazy on. There are blind spots and it's

really scary! Sometimes I take my life in hands just crossing the street to get

the mail! So I have to get in my car and drive to the park or high school for a

walk. Usually that destroys my motivation right there! I do have a treadmill,

but it's old & loud! LOL! I'm the queen of excuses, aren't I?

Hi , I wear a pedometer, and if I am short of my goal, I go for a walk.

The only problem is weather. Yesterday it was really windy and cold, and as we

just got back from a cruise, I did not have the energy. I did do my crunches

and free weights in the morning, so I did not feel badly by not getting my steps

in. I also cooked an elaborate meal with venison sausages that took two hours

of kitchen work. As I have a small kitchen here, that did not add up to a lot

of steps, but I was on my feet a lot!

Today is another day and I will get my steps in!

All the best, Joan

Joan - How do you manage 10,000 steps a day? I've tried and just can't do it.

My stride is nearly 3 feet in length and I'm lucky to get 5,000 steps. I'll

never get 10,000. Congratulations on meeting your goal!

Re: TKR

My PT said to expect swelling on my TKR for 12 to 18 months. I was watching

the 700 club TV show where DR Don Colbert said a re-bounder can increase

the lymph flow from 15 to 30 times. I started using my re-bounder again but

bouncing vice stepping or jumping. My PT had not heard of using a

re-bounder after TKR.

Has any other TJR tried using the re-bounder?

I have worn a pedometer many times. Usually 10,000 is easy to meet. Once I

walked almost double that and got into trouble from my knee doc......he said

toooooo much. I can't believe that one would only walk 1000 steps a day. I

think that you have to set it up right, figure your steps out and configure that

critter!

My treadmill keeps track of miles and time. I walk almost a mile in 20 minutes.

So, if you go out doors and walk about that time, you would be able to figure

miles out. Then also you can figure the steps you take in a mile. I did all

that..... and then I kept making sure I did extra walking.........around the

driveway if necessary. That was all before knee surgery. Now I am up to about

a mile of structured walking a day. I think, if I remember right, it was 1500

steps in half a mile and 3000 steps in a mile or was it 2000 .......I can't

remember.....gotta recalibrate ME too. lol.

I have all the issues you do , a bad road to walk on (highway and curves),

nutty drivers, an old loud treadmill etc etc. dash
