I've seen recommendations that range from 30 minutes to 1 hour of moderate exercise per day. That doesn't have to all be done at the same time. If you only have time for 10 minutes, then do it, and hope to find time to do 20 more sometime else in the day. But, even if you can only squeeze in 10 minutes, that's better than nothing. Just find something you like to do - walking, swimming, exercise videos, etc. - then get with it. Good luck.

Hugs,

Deanna

I seem to only be able to fit in a 2 mile powerwalk (so I like to call it, walking as fast as I can without running) about 2-3 times a week....The rest I spend working and cooking and cleaning...You know the drill...of course I do all my yard work...(push mow) so I hope for now it will be sufficient..I have just never been a freak about exercise, but I know if will be so beneficial and don't want to leave it out. Thanks for the info!!

That's a loaded question!

....how do all you find not eating like you use to...

I won't lie to you about it, as I feel most on here won't. At first

I had absolutely no hunger (the 1st 2 weeks), then you get what they

call " Head Hunger " - your body isn't really hungry yet your head

tells you you are...it's a hard thing to get beyond, not that I am

at this point because I am still a Newbie " at only 6 months post-op.

....the bad habits and things...

they are still there too...you HAVE TO learn to eat a new way, you

have to train yourself that what you used to do is not what you can

or should be doing anymore. It also not an easy thing, but for my

health and for my family it's worth it.

....where does that all go even after years after surgury?

I honestly can't answer this one, I am sure one of the others here

that had surgery 2 or more years out can tho.

All that said - I hope I don't scare you, beacus even with my head

telling me diffeently from time to time and having to learn to eat a

new way and do things so much differently than I used to ... SURGERY

WAS WORTH IT!!!! I love the new me that is emerging...not as shy as

I used to be, able to run and play with my 3 very active kids, able

to do simple things like tying my shoes and walk up & down the

stairs in my own house without being out of breath - they are ALL

WORTH IT!

Good Luck on your journey...

For me, it has come back. And I try and deal with on a daily basis, sometimes

minute basis. I also have been going to a counselor to help figure it all out.

It's the hardest part.

old habits can be (and it is no guarantee that they will be) replaced with new,

better, healthier habits. This is all a learning process. At 2+ years out, I

make myself aware of the ingredients of anything and everything I eat. Does

that mean I never indulge? Absolutely not -- if I want something sweet, I allow

myself a taste. But psychologically, a 'craving' is satisfied in 3-5 bites...so

I allow myself 3 bites...and the rest is wither passed around the table, or

tossed in the garbage. Remember, allowing food to be thrown away is less

wasteful than letting it shorten or hinder the quality of your life.

where are you located? Good luck on the insurance process!

Hi Donna

It just depends--that's being honest. Sometimes it's a walk in the

park, especially when you're in the honeymoon phase of the first year

or so. THEN reality sets in for many of us and it becomes a struggle.

Some people give up then fight it, eventually winning. Some fight it

and win. Some give up. I saw a woman in another group I'm in who was

5 years out, has lost less than 100 lbs and used the fact that she got

married as the reason that she stopped losing weight. She pretty much

seems to be struggling still after all this time.

It boils down to your head more than anything else. I was zipping

along for a while then allowed my head games to get in the way. When

I said--no more BS and got down to it--I started losing again and am

almost to where I finally want to be. Not just weight wise but

emotionally as well.

There is no simple answer to your question and you'll see a whole

range of answers!

I'm not going to lie or sugar coat it. It is hard!! For me it is a

daily struggle. I don't dump on sugar, Just on VERY high fat content

foods and even then I don't really dump. I throw up; some people

consider throwing up dumping. I don't get the sweats or the stomach

cramps. I feel a little crummy and I throw up. So for me it is a

daily struggle. I have to eat right to stay healthy for my kids and

husband. Since We mal-absorb (spelling??) our food I HAVE to make

the right choices or else I will get sick. I'm down 117 lbs and I

wouldn't change my life or the way I eat for all the food in

America!!! You couldn't pay me to change my life right now. I am

healthier and happier.

Good luck to you!!! WELCOME TO THE GROUP!!!!!!!!

Hey BB

I loves you too sister! The one thing that I should have told Donna

and I guess I will now is this:

DON'T LIE TO YOURSELF. We allowed ourselves to get fat by lying to

ourselves, our friends, families, those of us who love us and others-

-why oh why should we continue to perpetrate those lies?!

Leanne,

Air quality has improved, but who know what causes what! My AC does not kick on as often and it helps so much when it is running. I use fans just to keep the air moving.

Don't you go getting sick. Leave that bed unmade. Works for me. I used to be such a fuddy duddy, but nothing matters any more. Just getting through the day is a plus.

Hugs, Joyce D.PULMONARY FIBROSIS/LUPUS 1997 BRONCHIECTASIS 2004 INDIANA 2 COR. 12:10 ....when I am weak, then I am strong.>> > > For those of us in the Midwest, has anyone noticed a difference in their breathing ability? I'm wondering if the change in seasons is having an affect. I'm coughing more and real short of breath more often. I walked around my bed to make it and my sats dropped to 88. I know that's not low by other peoples standards, but it's low for me. My chest is tight and I'm having more trouble. Joyce, I wonder if this has anything to do with the trouble you've been having lately. And, if so, things should hopefully improve. I am so frustrated that you haven't been able to get your oxygen needs met. I did pass your frustrations off to Barb - the VP here in the Midwest. I'll let you know if I find out anything.> > Leanne> > > > ---------------------------------> Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Hey Leanne - I'd be doing great to simply be able to

make the bed! lol! I just wnat to say that you don't

need to apologize because you breathe better than

others. You have breathing problems and when you cant

breathe you just can't breathe! Doesn't matter if the

stat is 88, 92, or 52 - it still s*cks!

Keep on bed making!
