Right now, I am having a hard time controlling my blood sugars. It will get

better though.

Arlene

new member, husband diabetic

Hi, I am blind, and my husband is legally blind due to diabetic retinopathy.

I am interested in learning about diabetic recipes, diabetes runs in my

family, and I am overweight, so really need to get this eating thing under

control.

Any tips would be appreciated.

How do any of you who can't see measure insulin? Sometimes my husband has a

hard time seeing how much is he has drawn up.

Thanks,

Rhonda

lot of folks come join our list very recently.

This is great...

The more the merrier.

Devona,

This is a very good list and the folks here have gained their experience

the hard way. Their advice is sound and simple. All you have to do is

ask and listen.

While you may gain all of the knowledge in the World getting your Mom to

follow that advice will be the real challenge.

If I can help you just give me a call...

Hi Devona! My husband is diabetic! The only advice I would have is that you

can't do it for them, you can help encourage a loved one to eat right,

exercise, and keep his or her blood sugar levels under control but you

can't do it for them. You can offer love, support, and help.

I don't know about you, but I'm the type who wants to " fix " everything, but

this can't be fixed, it has to be managed!!!

Rhonda, I agree with you wholeheartedly about not being able to do the diet

or taking care of a husband or wife's diabetes. My husband has had diabetes

for ten year. The one thing I was told by many people was that I could fix

the right foods but it is up to your mate who has the diet to change his or

his ways. It is very hard to see a love owned with diabetes not take care of

their health. so good luck and it is wonderful that you care enough to want

the best for your Mother. Encouragement will help but they will make the

decision on what they actually eat. Lovingly Nan

Ronda is correct. I would offer one caveat, however. Yes, you cannot manage

someone else's diabetes for him/her. But you *can* refrain from sabotaging

his/her efforts. For example, you can decide not to tempt him/her with foods

which worsen diabetic control.

Hi Mike, I completely agree with you. I try not to buy food that is not good

for my husband. If he wants cookies he has to buy them himself. Nan
