Guest guest
Low or high cortisol in the night can cause sleep trouble, and hypoglycemia, common in adrenal Fatigue can also cause middle of the night waking. I would try moving your last HC dose to right at bedtime. Or you can take a tiny bit, say 2.5MG when you wake and see if it puts you right to sleep. This is a definite sign you are running low at night. I always needed the bedtime dose and any time I woke at night a bit more would work better than a sleeping med! You should also eat a high protein snack at bedtime to help relieve hypoglycemia. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Guest guest
I'm no expert here, as I'm still trying to figure myself out. :-) But this is something I've dealt with, too. As far as I understand it, cortisol is needed for your liver to release glycogen into your system. Without adequate glycogen (the opposite of insulin), your blood sugar will fall too low, causing you to have symptoms of hypoglycemia. If your last dose is 4 p.m., you probably don't have enough cortisol in your system in the middle of the night, so you wake up with hypoglycemia. To me it's been interesting to see how many people wake up between 3 and 4 a.m., like an alarm clock had gone off. I also had night sweats and violent nightmares, then to top it off, I had to go to the bathroom. To solve this, I take 5 mg of hydrocortisone at bedtime, plus a protein snack. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I have another small protein snack plus take 5 more mg of hydrocortisone. I don't know if this is the best course of action, but it has certainly helped me. ~Anne

Guest guest
doesn't low cortisol trigger the release of adrenaline and that would keep you awake? -- questions about waking up in the wee..... Guest guest
Thank you Val and for your replies to me. I've read Jefferies and would like to be able to do his dosing, but right now I need 10 mg in the a.m., with descending strengths..... perhaps I can working it around a bit over time. Val, last night I dosed 2.5 before bed. Had a particularly hypot day yesterday with cold hands and feet when it was in the 60's. Took 30 mg HC throughout. I've been on armour for 3 months and a week and worked myself up to 3.25 grains, and yesterday decided to go for 3.5 grains, thinking my hypot symptoms were coming back with a vengeance. Last night I took 2.5 mg before bed after eating protein as a bed time snack. Same thing, woke at 2 a.m., nervous a bit, hot sweats,.... uncomfortable. so I took 2.5 mg of cortef as suggested...... 1 hour later I was even more uncomfortable..... could it be that my adrenals are healing some after only 3 weeks on cortef and that my night time wakings are a rising cortisol... ?...... How else could I tell the difference other than the fact that the cortef didn't work as a sleep aid? Thanks so much again for all the help that you give. ;-) Eileen http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/growhair/ Begin forwarded message: > Re: questions about waking up in the wee..... > Posted by: " " artisticgroomer@...  valharly > > Wed Dec 20, 2006 8:46 am (PST) > Low or high cortisol in the night can cause sleep trouble, and > hypoglycemia, common in adrenal Fatigue can also cause middle of the > night waking. Guest guest
Phil... same thing, eh? All I know is that before HC when I was only on armour, and needed HC, I slept for dead. Fabulous sleep. Wondered how I could be so fortunate. So I dose HC responsibly throughout the day and then am awakened, sweaty, nervous and weird at 2-4 a.m. I get up and eat, doesn't help. Took 2.5 mg HC before bed and then 2.5 when I woke and I became even more stirred up. I don't like it either and can't handle not sleeping. It's the one thing I count on. So last night I ended up having to jump out of bed at 3 and take a sleep aid. Can't see doing this night after night. More than anything it feels like adrenaline to me, which made me wonder if my adrenals were waking up when there wasn't HC available. But adrenaline would be present if blood sugar dropped..... don't get it So you went back to 10 mg in the morning and are not sleeping.... is this what is not working for you? Guest guest
Problem is I just don't know enough about this to tell but I will find out. One of the Dr.'s that posts at the men's health forum said this was going on with one of the guys they thought it was a high thyroid but it turns out his thyroid was to low and this was causing his body to make adrenaline. He put him on armour and right away this guy felt much better and is sleeping much better. I can't remember if he put him on HC but I think he put him on Isocort. I will find the post and put it on here. Everyone though this guy would be hyper thyroid because he was hot and sweating a lot and would wake up feeling like this.
