Here's mine: Buy a water filter. This diet (in fact most diets) work best if you drink a lot of water. Here in Warren, we are hooked into the Detroit water system. Detroit has one of the very finest municipal water systems in the country, if not the world. However, at my wife's nagging, I bought a Brita pitcher, and have used it for about two months now. The water, which I never thought was bad to begin with, tastes a lot better. I didn't realise this until I got a drink of water from the water cooler at work. I almost gagged! The chlorine alone was pretty bad, but it had other indescribable " flavours " to it. But I never noticed it until I started drinking the filtered water., and now that's ALL I drink. I have no problem drinking 1 to 1-1/2 gallons of water a day, and I couldn't do that before. I am so impressed that I am going to install a whole-house water treatment system - a two-stage particulate filter, a carbon-based dechlorinator and possibly a softener as well. I will have to do some plumbing but I am so impressed by the quality of the water from that simple pitcher. For someone who can't do the plumbing, Brita, Pür, and no doubt other companies have pitchers and faucet mounted filters that can change your life, and are not too expensive. I never knew if I actually was drinking enough water, or how much. Then I bought some refillable water bottles (20 oz- pop bottles work here too). I fill my daily allotment in the bottles. When they are gone, I know I've had my water for day! I keep in fridge since I like COLD water!
Guest guest
My biggest tip to any newbies out there would be to JUST STICK TO IT! I've learned from experience that my biggest 'mistake' is to go eat my old way for even just a day as its soooo very hard to get back on it! Once i'm eating the way i need to (the Atkins way ofcourse!!!!) i can do well and be committed to do what i need to do....but once i give myself a day or three....getting back on the wagon so to speak is tough....plain ole TOUGH!!!! When i'd hear fellow Atkin-ites say this very thing....i'd think....nah, i can do it.....but it is...its tough to get 'restarted'.....so my words of advice would be to STICK TO IT!!!!!! So stick to it i need to do....my dh just gave me an early bday present (bday isn't til Monday the 1st)...he's whisking me away for a night and 2 days at a beautiful hotel not far from here; the Village Haven, fireplace, whirlpool and dinner....ooooo lalaaaa!!!! Our overnight is Jan 13....so i'm really hoping to shed even just a few lbs before then.....I CAN DO IT....I WILL STICK TO IT!!!!!! : ) Sherry in frigid NY

Guest guest
Plan. If you are going to dinner at your in-laws, find out what's on the menu. If it's going to be hard to stick to low carb, either eat tons of protein beforehand and pick at your meal, or bring along some low carb fixings. If you can't find out what will be served at an event, assume the worst and eat beforehand. Stuff some nuts or cheese in your purse. You may be pleasantly surprised and not have to dip into the emergency rations, but it's better to have them on hand than to be staring at a plate of high carb food and getting tempted. This also extends to at home. Many of us have busy schedules during the week and must pack lunches or cook quick dinners. On the weekend, do the planning that makes the rest of the week easier. Try becoming a Sunday cook. On Sunday, cook up 2-3 roasts or pans of chicken parts or low carb stews and meatloaves - whatever you like that is easy to pack up for a lunch or re-heat for a dinner. Get rid of the high-carb temptations in your kitchen - or relegate them to a single shelf in the fridge and a specific cupboard. Train yourself not to look there for potential foods when you are on the prowl. If you have plenty of low carb foods around, you'll be able to grab something easily. Take a moment and figure out what high fat treats you have craved while on your last low fat diet. Chances are those foods are also low carb (or can be modified to be so). Buy some so that you don't feel deprived! Bacon wrapped smoked oysters and high fat cheeses like Brie are may favourite low carb treats. Guest guest
My tip is...... Realize that everyone is different and every body reacts to different foods in different ways....... For example.......I don't seem to tolerate peanut butter very well but I chow down on the chicken mcnuggets, coffee mate, and aspartame products without any problem. Be very careful about it but figure out what is right for YOU not everyone else. People will try to tell you things are absolute 'no no's " but you have to figure out your individual tolerances and intolerances. Always remember the saying YMMV- " Your mileage might vary " ....... 240/180/150 6-16-

Guest guest
My tip: If you're new to the program and are amazed at all the options for making up LC sweet concoctions and all the new LC products, slow down! Try to stick with the basic program for a while, eating whole foods (fresh meat and veggies, not processed stuff) get used to it, and you'll probably even lose your sweet tooth altogether. And don't forget the water. ;-)

Guest guest
Oh yeah, another tip - try to get as many of your carbs as possible from FIBER, which means veggies, not AS! :-)

Guest guest
I fry up about 5 hamburger patties at a time. Or a pound of sausage patties and/or a pound of bacon. Then i split them up into ziplock bags and put them on my own shelf in the frig. Everything on MY shelf is for me, so the kids stay off of it. When hungry, pull out a baggie and nuke! If I have to fuss to much with it....i won't eat it. Ziplock baggies are my friend *grin*. dawn 289/268/239 11-19-00 _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Guest guest
I just got back from stocking up (for me and everyone else in the house). I found a couple of mayos made without sugar. I bought the Dukes, and can't remember the brand name of the other one. All the others I looked at have sugar and per serving they seem to have the same carbs (0). I'm sure if you ate a bunch of it, there was be measurable carbs in it, but who eats mayo like that. Not me for sure. I don't precook my food, but I do put it in individual servings in the freezer so I don't have to thaw out more than a serving at a time and possibly waste a lot of food (not to mention money). I'm one of the newer ones here and appreciate the tips. My tip is to remember that being thin is better than tasting good. ;-) Dwen Randall Baxley wrote: Hamburger patties and chicken breast Cook them up ahead or even buy them already cooked, be sure to keep some in the fridge ready to microwave. Keep your favorite cheese(yellow hard prefered because lower carb but white cheeses are fine if you count the carbs) sliced tomatoes, Real Mayo(Hellmans and Kraft have lowest carbs) Nuke it for a great hot no bread sandwich add a dill pickle spear to feel really like a treat but get the lowest carb dills as well. Guest guest
My tip for the newbies is after induction don't start adding all the desserts to fast because they will stall you or make you want to eat to much . Maybe have a legal treat once a month but not daily. Laverne
