Its okay to eat the bread you do. Just, as you said, count the carbs. If

you are trying to eat 90 or less carbs a day, then include that. The only

thing is that when you get your glucose machine (hopefully!) you will be

able to do a blood sugar 2 hours after eating and see how that 15 grams of

carbs will affect your glucose level. It might very well be fine, but if

you eat that 15 grams and then eat something else that has another 15 grams,

it might raise your level. You will have to experiment on yourself!

Re: Ah the frustration!

Ok I was told it is ok for me to eat the bread I do.

Just count it as fifteen carbs.

It is Montana wheat toast.

So this is why I am in question.

I also love raison bran does this mean I don't eat it either?

Total raison bran.

I will also speak with the dietitian next week.

I also did get the fig Newton's.

It says zero fat no sugar and eleven grams.

I didn't ask per cookie forgot about that part.

Also got a small box of splenda.

they say packets but I am wondering about that.

If it isn't how much do you do per teaspoon in something?

Oat meal is a wonderful breakfast when it is cold out and snowy smile.

Used to eat it at school all of the time.

The cream of wheat is a lot of carbs and so is toast. I forget the carb

figure for cream of wheat but each slice of toast is 14-20 carbs, and if you

are going to be successful at fighting diabetes, a breakfast consisting of 2

slices of toast and a bowl of cream of wheat will put you over 60 carbs

easily, and that's typically the limit we set for a whole day's worth.

Remember, carbs become sugar and sugar is one of our biggest enemies in the

fight to control diabetes.

Dar,

You should try to set up an appeals meeting with your local paratransit

agency. Before you go into the meeting have your doctor write a letter

stating your disabilities including the fact that you can't successfully

negotiate SAFELY crossing the street to catch a fixed bus route. CC a copy

to the Federal Transportation Agency. CC a copy to your local newspaper if

necessary. If you husband is an NFB local-chapter president then he should

use the fighting spirit of that organization to help you fight for YOUR

rights.

Yes that is true. Cream of wheat, oatmeal, cereals, breads, even things like

tortilla shells and let's not even get into things like pasta, pizza and the

like, it's all carbs.

The problem for me is, I like all of the above, but I like feeling healthy

even better. So I learn to deal with one or the other. If I know I'm going

to have plenty of exercise time I can eat some of that stuff, but not if I'm

going to sit around and watch TV. It'll just raise my blood sugar and then I

won't feel so good for awhile until the sugar comes down. Life ain't fair.

Diabetes ain't fair. Hey, if I had my drothers, I'd eat lots of carbs every

day. But if I did, I couldn't kid my own body and I'd be paying dearly for

blowing it.

We are eating spaghetti for dinner this week.

I was told that I could have one cup and a half slice of bread.

Breakfast this morning was an egg muffin with sausage.

Once a week.

Tomorrow will be oatmeal.

Then a day for toast.

I wouldn't know what else to eat.

Going to make deviled eggs for Easter.

Dar,

Even seniors can fight and they have just as many rights as the rest of us,

if not more. Unfortunately, we never attained anything by just sitting

around waiting for someone else to do it, we ARE that someone else. And if

we don't stick up for ourselves, no one else will. This is just as true

about rights as it is about our diabetic treatment. We are truly our own

best ally in the fight against diabetes. Not the drug companies who have

their own agenda to empty our wallets, not the well-intentioned doctors who

for the most part are just under-educated about diabetes. Just ourselves

fighting for OUR own agenda.

Dar,

Nurse and doctors are well-intentioned but if they haven't really had much

diabetic training, they are probably spewing out a lot of false information.

Too many of these nurses and doctors will tell you to " eat a candybar " or

" drink orange juice " when your sugar gets really low. That information is

not very good in light of what we know these days since those things will

jump-start your sugar all right, but then the sugar level will keep rising

past a good point. Find out what kind of diabetic teaching your doctor and

nurse have had and see if it's current or " many years ago. "
