I used to think the same about Mexican food to. I don't know the answer,

but the Spanish community Health Center, has a diabetic nutrition class, so

their must be a way!

tortillas are thin, maybe they have whole wheat ones. My co-worker is

going to teach me how to make that lovely Mexican rice with brown

rice. The vegetables aught to be good. Beans and low fat cheeses are on

the list, so their must be a way.

I am trying to figure out low carb low sodium and low fat Jewish food, now

that's a challenge.

Good going, Mark! Keep up the good work and good thoughts.

Re: new checker

you keep up the good attitude to loose that weight. it sure isn't easy, but

it is well worth it in the end. I my self, have a very long way to go, but

like they say, one pound at a time. I got kind of down last week when I had

only lost ten pounds in seven weeks, but now I am done feeling sorry for me

and am back on the track again. one pound a week will take me about two

years, but one good thing about it, when I do finally get the weight off, I

should be good at eating right and controlling my bs. I have figured out

after all these years of being over weight, it is all about eating less and

more exercise. in order to get over weight in the first place, you have this

turned around the other way and that is exactly what I done for most of my

life. what I miss more then any thing about changing the way I eat is

Mexican food. I really like that stuff and there really isn't any thing

about that food that is good for you. if I was to go to a Mexican Restaurant

and tell my self when I sat down, I am only going to eat what is on my diet.

well, I would be lying to my self and every one around me. no way could I

look at all those chips and dip and beans and the rest and stick to my plan.

so I just steer clear of Mexican restaurants. maybe I will visit one when I

hit my goal weight in two years from now. would be a nice present for my

self. but seeing as how you don't have diabetes's yet, you are doing the

right thing to loose weight now and try to exercise more then you have been

doing. time to get a handle on it before it is to late. they all tried to

tell me that diabetes could catch up with me some day if I didn't loose

weight. but like most of folks, I didn't listen at all. I am the only

diabetic in my family, but I realize now it was my own fault. I always ate

what ever I could get my hand on and I ate lots of it. I done no more

exercising then walking to the ice box and back to my chair. never did I

walk any where when I could ride. folks find this hard to believe when I

tell them, but getting diabetes's was a blessing for me. it was the only

thing that after many years of doing it all wrong, diabetes's got my

attention and made me turn my life around for the good. hard to believe that

a disease could be a blessing, but in my life of fat and fatter, it has been

a blessing. I wouldn't have had a need for this list at all, if I didn't get

diabetes's. I have done the Atkins diet before but not got serious about it

until I got type two diabetes's. eating less carbs can control your bs and

you will loose weight at the same time. you will also feel much better and

have more energy to get up off your back side and move around. we can still

party with the partiers to morrow on the forth. we just have to not eat the

bread for the most part and not drink as much beer, and pass on most of the

cookies and cakes. I suppose I am a bit strange. if I can't have the whole

cake, I don't even want a bite. I use to not like deal pickles, now I am

learning to enjoy a pickle every day. I use to deep frie every thing I ate.

now I have learned to boil and grill much more. I have always had a sweet

tooth. so this still can be a problem at times. I don't call it a diet, I

say it is a life style change. changing all my bad eating habits for a life

time. and most of all, it has been every one on this list that helps me to

not get to down on my self and give up. I have learned so much here off this

list that no way could I make it with out it. every one here holds the other

one up when the going gets rough and no one turns his back on the one that

is having a hard time of it. every one cares about the problems of the rest

of us and are more then willing to give good advice from lessons all ready

learned the hard way. ok, I guess I am done with my fourth of July ramble.

some times it just helps to talk it out with my self here on the list.

, You are a man after my own heart. I love mexican food. If I ever

get married again, I am going to marry a mexican girl. But I have been

married for 43 years so I don't look for that to happen.

My weight this morning was 235 and my bs was 108 so I am doing fine so far.

I will go in to the doctor this coming Friday and have a a1c so I intend to

let you all know as son as I get the results back. Have a great holiday,

welcome back Lynda! glad you are here smile. Keep us updated on that

checker, if it is really good, I might consider upgrading to it. Does it

tell you when you do not have enough blood on the strip? I think you said it

did but you had to look into it.
