HI

Funny thing is, my true BB-blue sponsor was a Randism fan.

He saw it as highly compatible with steppism - and with its

ultr-conservative politics, I am not surprised.

Hi Judith,

I too am angry. We have had similar experiences and your expression of

anger at AA helped me put my feelings into words.

Twenty years ago I had some pretty serious psychiatric problems they

said my drinking was a attempt at self medicating. Well after much

time and change of doctors I was placed in a substance abuse treatment

center. They had removed me from all psych drugs upon entering

treatment but when I was leaving the doctors were trying to convince me

that I needed therapy and drugs. I refused, I was already to well

indoctrinated into the twelve step thinking. It would be funny if it

wasn't so sad. Today I know I was self medicating back then. I have

had serious episodes of depression but my number one problem is an

anxiety disorder. I suffered for almost eighteen years without help. I

left AA about eight or nine years ago, I finally reached out for help

and now I cannot believe I suffered so horribly all those years.

I am bitter about AA for many reasons, shame is one of the big reasons.

you are so right about the shaming. AA is a shame based program. The

only people who fail are those who are incapable of being honest, how

shaming is that. I know of a couple suicides while in AA, wonder if

there was a connection. And that disease theory, what a crock. If

alcoholism were a disease then why osn't smoking, I could go on for

hours. but I will restrain myself, lest someone lable me with a

disease. Anyway good luck, there are lots of us who feel just like

you, take care. Suzy.
