Jeanne, many women report pleasurable sensations during intercourse related to

the pressure of the penis on the cervix. This will be missing if the cervix is

removed. Also, when the cervix is removed, the vagina is now open at the top.

Most commonly, the vagina is folded over during surgery to make a cuff, making a

closed end there. This usually results in shortening of the vagina, which can

result in painful intercouse. I believe that many of the ligaments which

support the bladder and the pelvic floor are also attached to the cervix.

Removing the cervix means these are severed and must be reattached elsewhere,

and can result in other problems as the normal suspension system of the body is

disrupted. Remember the old song: " the thigh bone's connected to the hip

bone " ? Everything in our bodies are connected to something else. Removing one

part affects many other parts. Leonie

Nice piece from the BBC. Seems like someone is finally organizing a

counter-information campaign to the one apparently being waged against UAE

by that English doc whose name I've unfortunately forgotton --

something? The one who managed to have UAE dropped from one or two

hospitals. Leonie

You might talk to Dr. Finklestein in San Francisco. I just had a

consultation with him last week and feel in very good hands. Another

doctor recommended him to me as the best in SF and my current gyn said he

trained her to remove fibroids.

Do you have any listings for doctors in Pittsburgh, PA?

Donna

(unknown)

You could check out these three docs listed on another now gone

fibroid site. The women there got together and created a physicians

list of docs they had had good experiences with.

-Dr. Bourgault, St. Lukes Women's Center, San Francisco, CA

-Dr. Francis J. McNee, OB/GYN, Menlo Medical Clinic, Menlo Park, CA,

admitting privileges at Stanford

University Medical Center.

-Dr. Toro, 2329 Oak Park Lane, Santa Barbara, CA 93105,

You can also call the HERS Foundation for a referral to one of their

docs. They have a website.

Why can't you just have a myomectomy? Almost any fibroid can be

removed by a properly skilled surgeon.

You can also check here for alternative docs.

What do you mean the site is gone? Which one are you

Phoebe,

My advice to you is to find a good reproductive endocrinologist in your

area, and research myomectomy first. The mind-set of a RE is uterine

preservation, and the success of an RE is determined by wether or not you

become pregnant and carry to term. If the fibroid is on the " outside of

your uterus as you mentioned, then it may be very possible that your uterus

wouldn't have to be " cut in to " at all. Not only can an RE address your

fibroid issues, they are the experts in other areas of infertility as well.

Good Luck, I hope this helps.

,

I didn't look at the website you suggested as I have little time this a.m.

However, I have the same problem as you. My hands and feet have been " puffy "

now for months. It is real bad when I wake up in the morning. My primary

care doc said that he believes it is related to my liver, and wants me to

tell my hep when I see him. I have a mitral valve prolapse, that I take

medication for, and they did a 2D echo not long ago and it was the same old

report - MVP; no new problems, so I believe him when he says it probably the

PSC. You should check with your doc since your family has a history of heart

trouble, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is just that fun-loving PSC again.

:-)

You know I went to my neuro today and for the first time in years I had to wait almost two hours to be seen - the waiting room was overflowing and the kids and I had to wait outside in the lobby. Guess all this means - that more people are getting hit with this disease. :0( n Rojas wrote: Fortunately we do have a lot of people choosing our list to join! Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo! Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min.

I hate to think it as being unfortunate that we have soo many members(that means soo many of us have MS) but we have a great group. The thing I love is that we are a positive group and we are always there for each other. 'n Rojas wrote: Fortunately we do have a lot of people choosing our list to join!
