This question comes across the list every once in a while. From my

understanding, consistent hiccups can be a sign of brainstem compression. I'm

not sure exactly what would determine that.

gets hiccups alot. When she gets them, they come on real quick and

are very hard hiccups. Then they stop real suddenly. It seems that when she

gets them, it will be several times within a day and this can happen for

several days during a week and then she can go awhile without any. I've never

told a doctor about this - guess I've thought the worst in what their

reaction might be to me saying she has a problem with hiccups.

Last year, I had her teacher keep a log on how many times per day she had

them and how many days every week. Didn't seem to be a pattern to them.

I get hard hiccups about 2 to 3 times a week. I get them a few times a day

for a few days then they stop. I started getting them after surgery. I have

never asked a doc about them tho.

Hi,

I wouldn't say I get them alot, but when I do get them they are hard to get

under control. Also, after my last Detethering, I think a day or 2 after it,

I had a horrible case of Hiccups. I have a feeling that it happened because

the Chiari was aggervated during Surgery for Tethered Cord.

Take Care,

Brande

I also had a large syrinx when I had my decompression surgery. T3 to T6. For

one thing they don't want to do both surgeries at the same time. And there is

always the chance that the syrinx will shrink.

My syrinx did shrink for almost 2 years and then it was shunted. I was

supposed to be " fixed " ya right. 2 years later I started having more symptoms

and went back for more MRIs and found another syrinx in my C-spine. It was

shunted within a week of getting back the MRIs.

I hope that there are some lucky ACMers out there that there syrinx disappear

and never have to be shunted. The way the doctors talk this does happen.

Good luck with yours.

Lucky you, Laverne. I have had a really bad week of eating. I have had

several Christmas get togethers and TOM came. I have reached the conclusion

that my 10 pounds off goal by the end of the year is not going to happen.

That said, I will not give up, just recognize that my mind has to take the

first action in reinforcing my desire to take off those last few pounds,

then my hand to mouth action will follow. I am not going to let Christmas

get too far out of hand, but I am going to give myself " reasonable " slack

and then hit it hard once things get back to normal after the New Year. My

commitment will be as always - not to go over 5 pounds higher than my lowest

weight. That won't give me much freedom since 135 was my lowest weight and

I am at 139 now, but I'm not going to pressure myself for the loss either.

Hi

Your right. This time of year is really hard for all especially when we

are with family. Tomorrow all my sisters and I are getting together for

a christmas tea and I know I will probably eat a few non leagal foods.

But hey its christmas. Right! I hope I can make my goal by the end of

the year which is to be in the 170's but you never know.

Hi Kirstie,

The Tea party was to be at my sisters but I will not be going now. We

decided to cancel it until Dec. 30th because we are supposed to get 6 to

8 inches of snow with 40 mile an hours winds tomorrow. My sister lives

in my mother and dads house that was left to us girls. It is always fun

to go back home for christmas.
